Dude, Sweet Chocolate

Was there yesterday with my girlfriend. It was fun. First time back in Bishop Arts since 2000. It was pretty crowded but both men there were fun and helping everyone out. The older man was super friendly and the younger guy was funny. They joked about the Chocolate Salami and their «Chubby Nuts». Ha! We got the Salami and Hanoi. Kinda upset that the Stingray was not available, one of the guys mentioned how great it was. Oh well, next time *hint* ha. Definitely will be back!

The C3PO marshmallows are heavenly however they were overshadowed by distractingly bad customer service. I walked in and was greeted by no one even though two stood in there (two men). The younger one just stared at me. I don’t need to be waited on but at least say, «welcome, let me know if you have any questions». I asked two questions and the younger gentleman seemed irritated by each. The first question was «what is the chocolate salami?» And the second was «could I have a small sample of the C3PO marshmallow?» Anyways — this place seems really impressed with itself and I find it boasting and tacky with all of its awards on the wall. And if you can’t handle customers realize they are the reason you get paid.

Great little shop in Bishop Arts District right next to Lucia. Very cute inside with an interesting selection. Parking is easy — street parking — very plentiful.
We were helped by a man who truly loves his job and the chocolate there. He was so nice! Didn’t catch his name though :(Essentially, you can try everything in the store. That day, they didn’t brew their coffee/​tea yet so we couldn’t try that.
On to the chocolate: SOOO YUMMMY. Very high quality ingredients.
Yerba Mate Truffle Chocolate — 6 truffles in a tube $ 13. So delicious, the honey and lemon really stands out amazingly, but the tea wasn’t too strong. My friend loves a strong yerba mate so I opted out of getting it. But still super yummy chocolate though, nonetheless!
Diwali Toffee — $ 13 for a tube. It’s chocolate with an Indian spin with curry as an ingredient. Great aftertaste. We enjoyed it very much and bought a tube :)
Fungus Amongus Toffee — $ 13 — IT HAS MUSHROOMS IN IT. Wthhhh — you get the taste and the texture too. Very interesting. Worth a try :)
Apple Moon Pie Fudge — very rich and satisfying if you’re into that. It was too rich for us though hahah.
Chubby Nuts — yummy nuts covered in chocolate and then covered in powdered sugar. We were looking for a gift for one of our moms and we chose the Crack in a Box — chocolate covered nuts because it really was like crack — sooo good. Def taste the amazing chocolate ! (2 Crack in the Boxes bought)
TUB OF LOVE SPREAD -$ 15. Oh man… if only I could carry that on the plane, I would hoard on loads… but sadly it is a spread and according to TSA regulations, it doesn’t fit under the 3.4 oz rule *major sad face* It was sooooooo good. TUB OF LOVE over NUTELLA. I didn’t even know that was possible. I wish I bought this one.
At the end, they asked us if they could take a picture and post it on Facebook. How sweet for memories :)
Would recommend? I loved this little shop :) Definitely recommend if you’re in Dallas!

Love love loved this location, probably because the associate helping us was hilarious!
First of all, you can try everything in the shop and it is all very good. My favorite was the salami and Jameson truffles.
At the end of the day, all chocolate shops have their specialties, but what really makes them stand out is the packaging, tone or culture of the brand, and the service in the shop. This location of Dude, Sweet Chocolate, nailed it.
Being in Bishop Arts and next to Lucia helps, I’m sure, but to be an associate in a busy location has to be nuts. To have a smile on the face and humorous attitude at the end of the night is impressive. Loved the guy who helped us. He made the experience what it was — splendid.

This is far and away some of the best chocolate that I’ve had. Unfortunately, the service and disinterest in improving service drops this place down to two stars.
There was an incident last October that I emailed about. In summary, the staff was extremely rude and belittling to my senior-​citizen father who was trying to find his favorite chocolate. They told him that he was «confused» and «didn’t know what he was talking about» and he «couldn’t have gotten it there» and they «have never made anything like that». They made him feel horrible and left with nothing. The staff’s demeanor toward him was verging on the intangible racism that only those who have experienced it understand. The staff didn’t offer him an alternative, either — they clearly don’t care about the sale. Of course, when we got home, he looked at the box that he had been saving and it absolutely was Dude, Sweet and it absolutely was something they once made.
I wrote a heartfelt email to Dude, Sweet last October before going to Unilocal because we love this place. I wanted to give them a chance to know privately what had happened and how unacceptable it was. I also gave them nearly one year to respond — which they never did. So now, I do have to review on Unilocal.I did not want to handle this on Unilocal but I guess I have to now.
This is a business that doesn’t care about customers. They don’t care about customer experience, they don’t care about customer complaints, and they definitely don’t care about customers lost.
I love this place but the fact they couldn’t even respond to a sincere email within a year’s time about an awful situation that their staff put us through makes it really hard for me to justify going there.

Okay so no doubt the chocolate is very cool with really cool pairing of flavor and no doubt it’s good u can try before purchasing bc seriously at those prices, u gotta try before.
My favorite is the Hanoi fudge and the flower child. I wanted to try bacon but it wasn’t on the shelf.
If this were just chocolate by itself– I’d give it a 4 stars. Delicious and cool.
But the service was SO BAD that I’m dropping two stars instead 0.5 that I usually do.
The guy working samples was seriously begrudgingly giving out samples and seemed in a really bad mood. Honestly, he was so rude that I would have walked out and not bought anything but bc my in laws were there I hung around and was embarrassed by the guy’s rude responses. I asked if there was anything salty– and I def got a smart ass response. Then my in laws asked about something a 3 year old would like… Bc a lot of stuff was alcoholic or more on the bitter side. The guy just mouthed off in a ways where we all felt bad about asking any questions at all.
As cool as the chocolate is, not worth it to get the stink eye and smart mouth while I’m browsing high end expensive chocolate.

Cute chocolate shop in the Oak Cliff/​Bishop Arts District, and a great place to browse if you’re waiting for a table in Lucia, which is right next door. You can basically ask them for a sample of any of their products, which I love since it’s the worst when you buy food that ends up tasting gross. I ended up with:
–Praline Chocolate Bar (Crunchy Hazelnut & Caramel, $ 6): This is one of their best sellers, and it’s easy to see why since the chocolate is very smooth, and the crunchy hazelnut is delicious.
–Loco for Coco Chocolate Bar (Toasted Coconut, Coconut Milk, Honey, $ 6): Yum, this is a must try for any coconut lovers. The flavor really comes through, but it isn’t too sweet overall.
The staff here is friendly, and they will give you suggestions if you ask. The chocolate isn’t cheap here, but you can tell it’s quality. I will definitely be back to sample additional items when in this area. Parking can be difficult during the peak dinner times, but there were a good amount of free street parking spots available around 8pm on a Wednesday night.

Everyone loves chocolate and who can resist free samples. Here at «Dude, Sweet Chocolate» patrons can sample everything to his or her heart’s content. My favorite was the chocolate salami (no there’s no meat in it), but the consistency of the meedjoul dates, almonds, figs and chocolate makes perfect with cheese and wine. And although this isn’t choclate, the C3P0 marshmallow was the bomb!

Such an awesome place! If you like chocolate you definitely need to check this place out. They have both exotic and «safe» flavors — about ¹⁄₃ of the things I tried I didn’t like, but, I applaud them for dong some fun stuff — I’m sure someone will like the things I didn’t and vice versa.
Bacon covered chocolate is sooo freakin good!!!

The chocolate is good, but the service was so rude. We came in after dinner at Lucia and were treated like homeless beggars when we asked for a sample before buying. I probably won’t ever come back.

We stumbled upon this place around 9:15 since Emporium Pie closes at 9PM and we were still in the mood for something sweet. Lots of delicious dark chocolate to sample. I liked everything (minus the salami roll), but selected «Crack in a Box». Delicious! 7 bark pieces in the box — rationing the pieces is my challenge!

Delicious delicious chocolates. I ended up trying ~8 different chocolates and liked all of them. The two highlights (that I bought) are the toga party (spicy chocolate with a slow ramp up from the togarashi Japanese spice) and the Hanoi fudge chocolate, inspired by the sweetness of Vietnamese coffee.

Anybody who knows me knows that among my weaknesses are good chocolates. Good chocolate just makes me happy.
Being in Dallas and finally breaking my sweets fast, good chocolate was among my top priority. Doing my due diligence, Dude, Sweet Chocolate seemed like a place that I should not miss, so I made sure to stop by on my first day of wandering about town.
I was expecting a boutique-​like place, with jewel-​like truffles and nice, fancy lighting, but Dude, Sweet Chocolate is much more humble than that. It is a simple space that has a faint and very pleasant chocolate aroma in the air. *happy sigh* I do love great smells as much as I love great flavors… The staff was very friendly and will let you taste anything that catches your fancy. Now, how many chocolate shops, aside from a few occasional samples, allow their customers to taste their wares? That was a very nice gesture on their part.
So naturally, me being a little low on shame and a little high on the free food love, I asked for a taste of everything they offer. The clear winners for us were the chocolate salami (novelty and coolness factor aside, it is seriously good chocolate), belle Helene truffles, flower child truffle, Laphroaig Truffle, Hanoi fudge, and the praline bar (the hazelnut and caramel were so perfectly balanced and it made for a perfect road trip pick-​me-​up). We also tried the chocolate-​covered bacon and theirs is among the best I have eaten. The bacon was the good bacon (i.e. not too thin so it did not crumble with every bite) and expertly coated with the chocolate (i.e. the chocolate did not fall all over the place or separated from the bacon when bitten into). My only qualm is that they do not make hot cocoa on premises, but I think I could live with this tragedy.
Located in the Bishop Arts District (which seemed to be a neighborhood we should have explored more, with a lot of people milling around and quite a few places that seem to offer good eats), great stuff, and sinfully decadent chocolates, Dude, Sweet Chocolate would be one of the places I would return to when I return to Dallas. Until then, I think I have to charm my family and best friend to send me some of their salami and fudge for my birthday. (I could order online, but have I mentioned I have mad love for free food?)
Until we meet again, Dude Sweet Chocolate! Never change. Unless change means adding more delicious treats, then I will have no complaints there.

I would not call myself a chocolate expert. But I would call myself a big fan of chocolates and one that has chocolate in the house all the time. Unfortunately, Ive never been to the actual store but my boyfriend was sweet enough to bring me some treats from Dude, Sweet Chocolate while he was on a business trip in Texas. I’ve heard from some friends in Texas that while Dude, Sweet Chocolate is in fact delicious, it is on the pricier side so it’s a place that’s not frequented often but I suppose higher quality means you have to pay a little more.
He brought me an assortment of chocolate liquor syrup which is quite fun to eat but you can only use chocolate syrup on so many things before getting tired of it. But yes, it is a delight on ice cream and that’s how most of the syrup was consumed. I’ve also put some in milk to create a spiked chocolate milk concoction which is both naughty and fun. I also really think that their version of Nutella is fantastic. It’s rich and decadent and one that tastes more refined than the Nutella we are all so used to consuming. I enjoyed it liberally on some toast for months before the jar was finished. I think the only thing that I didn’t really enjoy from this shop was their plain vegan chocolate. I’m not an expert on vegan goods but as far as vegan chocolates go, I’ve had much better. Overall, it was a cute little surprise and one I enjoyed consuming. But then again, I’m sure had I been the one paying for these treats, the rating would have been lower simply because it is pricey. ⁴⁄₅

DUDE!
This is not your usual chocolate store. They don’t have their chocolate behind a glass case for you to see. They will let you sample whatever you want. They let you know that it’s dark chocolate. I am really more of a milk chocolate lover so I expected disappointment.
I was far from disappointed! We sampled the chocolate salami and chocolate sting rays. We bought the praline chocolate bar and the Loco for coco bar.
It’s really good chocolate. You can tell it’s real chocolate. I like that it didn’t have a funky after taste to it like most specialty chocolate stores do.

This is the Bugatti Veyron of hand-​crafted chocolates and will get you out of any trouble that flowers and stuffed animals cannot fix.

I love the uniqueness of this chocolate shop.
I love that you can try everything before buying and although it’s a little pricey you’re paying for premium handmade and packed chocolates. Everything is dark chocolate based which doesn’t mean the chocolate isn’t sweet because there are many varieties that are very sweet. I tried the mocha marshmallow and the crack n a box. I ended up buying both and was not disappointed. A friend visiting from out of town got one of chocolate bourbon sauce for her coffee. She’s from Charlotte and wished they had a place like this there. It’s the perfect spot to hit after a dinner in Bishop Arts whether you are buying or just stopping by to have a small taste of chocolate.

Did I add an hour to my drive home to Tulsa by making a stop here? You bet I did. Was it worth it? YES… and then some!
I’m pregnant and have few cravings… one of these is Dude’s chocolate granola. Everything about this shop is attractive: the storefront, unique and fun chocolate product and the kindest staff of all time. Mark, I kind of want to be your friend forever.
Their product is fresh and unlike any chocolate you’ve had before. There are multiple articles written about this gem you can look over while you shop as they are hung about the store.
I left with 4 bags of granola and a huge smile. Trust me, it’ll happen when you visit this happy place.

We ended our evening here last night after eating dinner at Eno’s Pizza Tavern and drinking Cider at the new Cider Co. Our friends were raving about the chocolate and they had just finished their last batch and were due for a new one.
I love that the employees let you sample everything. It makes spending $ 12+ for chocolate seem worth it.
Everything was delicious. We sampled pretty dark chocolate and the marshmallows. I ended up choosing the Hanoi Fudge, which is a Vietnamese coffee house style chocolate. You could taste the coffee. The chocolate was really rich. A little bit goes a long way.
We will be back!

I told myself I wouldn’t buy anything as I walked in.
I told myself this would just be a casual window shopping-​esque stroll.
I walked out with chocolate, dammit.
Not only can you sample everything they sell, but the dudes here are sooooo friendly! I will very honestly say that the only reason I bought something (the loco for coco bar) was because of the service. I’m a sucker for guys at the counter who’ll joke around with you and just be their dang personable selves, which the guys here definitely were.
I mean, you gotta give a place that sells ‘break up potion’ some credit too. Their products are all quirky in their own way, from the ingredients to the packaging to the naming to the actual design of the chocolate — which I totally dig.
Maybe one day I’ll come back for that salami. (From the website: not real salami at all, a combination of marzipan, dried fruits, cocoa nibs, chocolate and salt all rolled into one fabulous log that slices like a salami but tastes like heaven)
