Dr. James Trotter – Liver Consultants of Texas

This doctor was dishonest with me and did not act in my best interest medically. While he may be technically competent, his manner and way of dealing with me was perfunctory, at best. I felt more like a lab rat in some medical experiment than a human being. Specifically, he expressed a medical opinion that giving me a pain killer with ibuprofen while on both the liver and kidney transplant lists was acceptable. The result of my taking this medication, which many medical experts say should NEVER be given to a kidney transplant patient, was that my kidneys shut down and put me in the hospital for a week. I had many very painful tests while in the hospital. In addition, they had to transfuse me with several units of blood. Several doctors, including Dr. Trotter, told me while I was in the hospital that the sole reason my kidneys had shut down was because I took the painkiller with ibuprofen. Later, he stated that this was the best medication I could have been given, although I subsequently found out that was not true – there were several other painkillers that could have been prescribed that would not have damaged my kidneys. Then, as a final insult, when I decided to change doctors as a result of this incident, Dr. Trotter’s office made it extremely difficult for me to get my own medical records transferred to my new doctor, claiming the HAD NO MEDICAL RECORDS for me despite the fact that he had been my hepatologist/​GI doctor for the 4 previous years continuously. This guy is bad news and I’m lucky that his treatment didn’t kill me.
