At Dallas Reading and Language Services we «Embrace the Amazing in every Child!» We help students accept their gifts, as well as develop tools and skills needed to move through their challenges.

Speech-​Language Therapy is just the beginning at DRLS! We provide Comprehensive Evaluations for Speech-​Language and Reading, with a detailed report that includes specific therapy goals, and a Parent Consultation to explain it all!

Our therapy is tailored to each child’s needs, while taking advantage of their strengths and interests. Whether the child is 3 or 18, therapy is structured to make a huge difference in his or her life, at home and at school.

Reading programs are integrated into student’s therapy as appropriate, for decoding, comprehension and spelling. If desired, we can design a home program and teach parents how to practice new skills at home. This is a great option for home-​schooling families!

History

Established in 2005.

Rachel Betzen, M.A., CCC/​SLP, started DRLS as a private practice in Dallas, Texas offering speech-​language therapy and reading programs to children in 2005.

Rachel overcame many speech and reading hurdles of her own as a child and has healed from several health setbacks and conquered her own challenges as an adult.

These experiences made her truly passionate about the work she does and allows her to empathize with the kids with whom she and her staff currently work.

Ms. Betzen has learned how improving a child’s speech fundamentals and providing the proper tools that empower children to learn how to read have a very real and powerful long-​term affect in life.

DRLS is also unique in their focus of working with lower socio-​economic families, as well as middle class and higher income families in the Dallas, Texas area.

Today, Dallas Reading and Language Services offers their services on a sliding scale basis for private pay families. DRLS also accepts Medicaid and some insurance.

Rachel Betzen, MA CCC/​SLP has high expectations of her students, and makes sure they know it! Whether the student has a learning difference, delay, or speech disorder, she’ll help them develop the skills and tools needed for success, in therapy, and in life.

Through her carefully tailored therapy, Betzen has seen sixth graders reading on a second grade level, and second graders not reading at all, both catch up to their grade. Children with Language Disorders began to tell and summarize stories, and kids with Speech errors grew new confidence as their speech became more clear. Parents reported less fighting, more conversations, more responsible behavior. Teachers were amazed, and students were uplifted, no longer able to believe they were stupid!
