Rudest bartender ever. tried to pocket 13 dollars from me– when I confronted him he insisted I didn’t know simple math but after proving him wrong he threw 5 dollars at me and told me if I didn’t leave he would kick my ass. Would never consider going back only went in cause he flagged me down and begged me to come in. He offered me a fireball haha.

I think this place is under new management or something. They did not serve food when I went there. Other than that, it is a good bar, the staff was awesome, and the live music was awesome.

Food wasn’t bad and the staff was nice but maybe a tad neglectfull. I will go back because deep ellum needs to be supported and this is a great alternative to the overpopulation of italian and mexican food. This is not health food by any means but good home cooking mixed with bar food and bar atmosphere.

I’ve read the reviews and have waited a while to write one my own. I’m a Deep Ellum local. I live, eat, drink, everything in the neighborhood and was super excited to see something new open up in the old Daddy Jack’s space. During the Observer Music Awards Showcase, a bunch of friends were sitting outside eating. I was able to sample the mashed potatoes, they were to die for. Seriously, the flavor was amazing and everyone that was eating there was highly impressed by the food. I was in a hurry to eat something quick and decided to try and eat there another time. Two times I honestly tried to eat there. Once, the whole dinning room was cleared out for a DJ that was playing there, so we ended up leaving. Second, the lights were dimmed down to almost off, disco and laser lights were going off everywhere at 8pm in the evening. Now I’m beginning to think that this place is a dance party and not a restaurant. My friends and I sat down in the bar area. We ordered drinks, but as we felt increasingly uncomfortable with the atmosphere, we just ordered the humus and decided to go some place else for our actual dinner. As we were enjoying our humus and drinks, the cute blonde, which I read is the trend, informs us for the evening they will be serving $ 5 Patron shots. Well, needless to say, the whole thing was just not our cup of tea at the time. There is talk in the neighborhood that they may have opened up under the intentions of being a «restaurant», but has other intentions of being a «night club». I really hope this isn’t the case because our new and improved Deep Ellum really needs more respectable restaurants.

I’m giving The Boiler Room 4 Stars for a reason. I had a couple issues when I was there, but after meeting the owner and one of the chefs, I’m convinced that the kinks will soon be worked out! My friend and I went there for lunch and we order two items to split. Chicken Fried Steak Sliders and the Shrimp Po’ Boy. Let me just say this first… the Chicken Fried Steak Sliders are freakishly awesome! They take chicken fried steak, top it with mashed potatoes and white gravy, and then put all of that on a Hawaiian bread bun! HELLO! Yes, Please! It was so delicious. One of the other reviewers said that the sliders were stale, but when I talked with the chef, he actually mentioned that problem and explained that that’s the reason he switched to Hawaiian bread. Genius. At least we know that issues are being corrected as they come. The Shrimp Po’ Boy was also really good, but I suggested that they heat the bread, because for some reason ours was room temperature. All in all, we could tell that all of the food was freshly made. The shrimp was even nice and freshly breaded and fried. Not anything like the frozen stuff. Now let me say this… we were the only table in the restaurant. We were having a late lunch around 2:00. The food took a long time. We were not happy with this, but I told the chef what our problem was and he assured us that it would not happen again and he would see to it that the cooks were more prompt in the future. I worked in the service industry for 11 years, so I understand that there are kinks to be worked out. As a kind gesture, the chef brought us out a big honkin’ piece of chocolate cake. Now let me explain something to you. I don’t even like cake. But THIS chocolate cake was something totally different. It was like a chocolate mousse/cheesecake/sponge cake, with a little bit of love thrown in! I had to fight myself to not finish the whole thing. All in all, I give The Boiler Room a pat on the back. I will definitely be returning soon. P. S. They have sweet potato fries!

As a newcomer to Deep Ellum, I really wanted this place to be great. I am really looking forward to DE’s resurgence, and I was hoping for another good restaurant(in addition to Angry Dog and LaGrange) to add to my rotation. Unfortunately, Boiler Room falls flat on its face. It makes you wish Daddy Jack’s could’ve stuck it out another year or two till Deep Ellum was back full swing. The atmosphere was pretty good, especially considering it looks like they are still getting things together after what looks like a half-finished opening. The dining room and bar looked pretty cool, but the bathroom looked like a shit hole. The service was far from what you would want in a restaurant, and I’m usually pretty easy on servers. It looks like the owner(or manager) took the«cute blonde» route, and we all know what that means… Not-so-bright servers that aren’t too good at many things expect for a couple. They didn’t have a wine list, even though they had a wall full of mediocre wine, and the waitress didn’t even know what a Fireman’s #4 is. That shit is everywhere now, it’s not an unheard of craft brew or anything. Not in Central and North Texas anyway. And last but not least, the food was bad to mediocre. I had the western sliders and it wasn’t a whole lot better than Jack in the Box’s mini sirloin burgers. I really wanted this place to be good, especially after reading the story that it was opened by an ex-used car salesman that dumped all his savings into opening a restaurant. That takes balls and is the American Dream. It’s something we all wish we could do and that I hope to maybe do someday. Unfortunately, it leaves a lot to be desired. I really hope this place gets better, and if it weren’t for the feel good story behind it, I would give it one star. Boiler Room, please work out the kinks. You have so much more potential. Get a real, educated wait staff, a real wine list, work on your food, and last but not least… show the Rangers game when they are having a great season instead of some random male beach volleyball game.
