This place is awesome! I don’t often write reviews but I feel compelled to write this one. The management is always AMAZING to me! Shawn is so hard working the first time I met him I thought he was just a very concerned busser. Come to find out he visited my table and cleared my glasses several times just to make sure I was having a good time and being well taken care of. Adria the other manager is also amazing always goes above and beyond to make sure I have my vegetarian(this place has THEBEST veggie options in Uptown) meal option. Jordan and Bonnie are my two favorite waitresses, I’m not sure this place would be the same without them. Eric was also a great person who worked and managed this bar. I was very sad to see him go. Long review short I am glad my friend talked me into come here one day.

Perfect place to grab some drinks and enjoy great weather outside. The music isn’t too loud so it’s a great place to have a good conversation and enjoy some drinks

Really nice pub in Dallas! First stop in Dallas and was pleasantly surprised with my drink made by Brian! Irish ginger! That’s what the drink is called :)

Don’t want to wait an hour and half for brunch at Social House? I suggest you keep walking and head to Black Friar Pub. Great outdoor seating, yummy brunch items like eggs Benedict sandwich and home fries, bread pudding(YES just do it!). You can’t have brunch without a $ 10 carafe of mimosas(more champagne than orange juice). If its your birthday… ask for the breakfast shot! Last but not least ask for waitress«Champagne».

My husband and I visited on a Sat. early eve before a Stars game at AAC. So glad we found this place! We are in our 50s so it was heartening to see ALL adult ages enjoying the fun. McKinney is full of bars and pubs but Blackfriar makes the all-encompassing atmosphere so nice that you forget about all of the other places on the street. It’s also within walking distance to the AAC and the wonderful hotels and attractions in the area. Didn’t eat but did enjoy my fave beer that I can never find on tap. It was a great surprise! Staff is great without hovering or ignoring. We will be back.

This was by far the best bar of the night. Great atmosphere that was relatively clean with nice people. The bartenders were attentive. I also appreciated that their limes were fresh, not like they had been sitting out for awhile and shriveled. This place had awesome music too.

My god it was jumping off by 10 pm on a Friday. Dallas is spoiled by beautiful women, and they love this place. Drink prices are low too! Overall excellent I’d recommend

We were walking around exploring Uptown and this place caught my eye so i dragged everyone with me to check it out. good choice by yours truly! We sat outside since the weather was nice and really enjoyed the whole patio vibe. We went on a Sunday so we had a choice from the regular full menu along with their Sunday brunch specials. I went with the nachos and they bomb! I love nachos but i really love when restaurant make the big chips into an individual nacho for you… does that make sense?! lol Well anyway, this place does that with their nachos… so its not a heap of chips on a good plate size full of well crafted«individual nacho» bites. I finished the whole damn plate and didn’t share one. My black and tans were delicious as always… my other company ate off of the Sunday special menu and really enjoyed their breakfast burritos and tacos. fyi the breakfast burrito is HUGE!

Loved the Brunch!!! I had the smoked salmon plate. It was a generous size and very fresh. I also had the Bloody Mary which was excellent. I loved the spicy and extra spicy ones! Our waitress was great — attentive and lively. Needless to say, I will definitely be going back for the delicious brunch in the near future.

another place we went into during bar hopping in Uptown Dallas. it was a little empty but it was pretty early in the night(about 7pm). We asked the server for recommendations on a starter and she suggested the avocado and chicken sliders. YUMMERS! Good choice! They came with fries which I swore tasted like McDonald’s fries and the waitress agreed also. It’s a pretty big place and I can see it being a fun location when it is filled with more people…

Great place for a drink with friends with a really cool outdoor seating area. Full bar with extensive beer menu all reasonably priced. The food was a nice surprise as we tried several different options… chicken avocado sliders, fish tacos, burgers, fish and chips were all very good. Overall cool place to hang. Several other bars within walking distance of your looking to do some bar hoping.

Most consider Dallas a dog friendly city, but not Black Friar. They don’t allow dogs on their patio, not even lap dogs!!! The place was dead and our business was turned away, just because we had a 7 pound dog with us. The two stars goes to the server who had to be «the messenger» and deliver the bad news: she was nice, but I wish I could review further. Obviously, the owners are cat people…

I never really got why black friar always gets so insanely busy on weekend nights. Sure, it’s got a cool beer selection and the staff is nicer than those at other more popular places, but the crowd is a bit stale, being the kind to stay here the whole night. Still, I can’t criticize it since the outdoor area is pretty cool and they have the best beer selection of any of the really busy bars in uptown.

Never been here during the day or tried the food. But on occasion when we find outselves out in Uptown, this is always in our rotation of stops. It’s a big two story house bar/pub so even with all the people and the crowding, we can usually find ourselves a corner to hang out in to drink. The bartenders are average, but should take that as a compliment considering they’re usually not the friendliest in that area. I will give them the benefit of the doubt due to that they are always slammed and just trying to pump out drinks asap. It doesn’t give much room for customer service. Granted we always enjoy coming here. Beers are around $ 5 and up. Line is never long to get in. Nice openness on the bottom patio and top balcony. Good location in terms of walking distance to bar hop across to Trophy Room or short walk to Kung Fu or Social House.

This one is going to be short and sweet: went for Saturday Brunch and were very happy with our dishes. The wife-unit had short-rib eggs benedict(and the potato hash that comes with it) and I had the brunch bread pudding(which isn’t as strange as it might sound… think of it kinda like a derivative of french toast). We both really enjoyed our meals. I was worried that the bread pudding whiskey sauce might be overpowering with whiskey, but I was pleased that it instead was a nice mixture of buttery sweetness with a little whiskey. It also came with very flavorful fresh fruit — I’ll definitely order this again if given the chance!

The french dip sandwich was very good, and the beer selection admirably diverse. The ambiance is not surprisingly very pub like. I’ve walked by on a Saturday night before, and there were waaaaay more humans there than I felt like wading through. Saturday afternoon, however, we had the place practically to ourselves, and it was delightful. The bill can get a little steep pretty quickly here, so mind the menu. Over all, decent food, good beer.

This is the perfect place to have Saturday brunch. First of all, we had a $ 100 gift card to spend, we completely gorged ourselves, and we barely used even half of it! So that alone tells you it’s a great deal. Second of all, at 1PM on a Saturday we basically had the whole upstairs patio to ourselves. That is totally unheard of in Uptown. At most places there’s a huge wait and you’re yelling to hear yourself over the crowds, but here it was the most relaxing and intimate environment. And finally, the service was stellar – just the right amount of attentiveness without being overbearing. We sat at a wooden booth on the upstairs patio, with a great view of Uptown and also the incredible construction pit next door(seriously really interesting to look at). We started with a carafe of mimosas, which as part of their 4th of July weekend special was only $ 7(great deal). The mimosas were delicious! For our food we ordered the veggie nachos with guacamole, the fish tacos, and the Red House Salad minus the salami. Everything was really great, even better than we expected. We were expecting pretty standard pub food, but this was really outstanding. As the meal continued we also ordered a carafe of sparkling wine sangria($ 9) and a frozen moscow mule to share($ 8). Everything was delicious. We left happy and satisfied and fully intending to come back and do it all again next weekend. Thanks, Black Friar!

I stumbled upon this bar on a recent bar crawl and was pleasantly surprised. I’ve never heard of the Black Friar but is an amazing place with lots of atmosphere and fantastic service. Our waitress was so friendly and easy to talk to. We ended up ordering some food and everything we had tasted great. They also have my standard Guinness on tap as well a a variety of other great beers. We sat at the outdoor patio and enjoyed the weather. The vibe here is easy going and fun. This has been one of my favorite bars so far in Dallas. I’m definitely coming back to the Black Friar! You should check this place out.
