Worse place ever. Waited HOURS for the doctor. Came at 9pm and didn’t leave until 3am. Doctor was NO WHERE to be found. Never coming here again. Worse hospital ever.

I was amazed at how Baylor went all out for the holidays! When I went they had a Christmas wonderland that was tons of fun. It really showed to me how much they care about giving patients a more positive experience in the hospital.

This is only for BUHMC. The Heart Hospital and Cancer center are incredible. Not only did my husband (and many other patients that I saw) receive substandard care but the doctors you are «assigned» by Baylor may or may not take your insurance. Baylor may take it but you have no say over the doctors assigned to you there. After a long stay (with very good insurance) you can be left with $ 20,000−100,000 in debt. And that is going to an in network hospital with your insurance. On top is that they caused a permanent injury to my husband. We will either go to Southwestern or Presbyterian from now on. Be forewarned, so not come in through their ER. Once you are a patient of Baylor you lose all control over your health care cost and decisions!

I have had several home health patients who have been admitted here for various reasons over the years and I must say the staff have always been helpful, informative, and diligent. I suspect all of the bad reviews come from an emotional place, which is understandable, but it doesn’t always make for a fair or honest review. This hospital is great, from ER, to Truett, to Roberts (I’ve been in all) and even the Jack and Jane heart hospital next door. I have always seen my patients receive excellent care and their families given all the pertinent information and then some. By the way, this is a teaching hospital and they do often take a «team» approach HOWEVER the Drs as well as the nurses meet EVERY MORNING by 10am to discuss their patients condition. it is not, as one reviewer claimed «put on a sticky note» how absurd! If I ever I choose to leave the home health industry and get into the stressful hustle of a hospital Baylor would be my first choice. Keep up the great work guys!!!

I had the worst experience in this ER. The nurse practitioner HOLLIE was why. I had uncontrollable itching for days on my body with no bites or rashes. I was going crazy and had never had anything happen like this. She told me it was bed bugs or scabies. I said I looked for bugs in my bed and have no bites so how could it be bedbugs? Don’t you think I already considered that possibility? Then she said it was scabies. She said I have no track marks that resemble scabies, actually my skin looked normal. So why did she come to the conclusion it was one of these if I show no signs?! She kept giving me contradictory answers about how it could be anything but nothing more specific than scabies/​bedbugs. This woman would not admit that she was not educated enough to give me a better explanation than the quick Google search she did before she walked in the room. Besides her overly rude behavior, she walked out of the room to get a prescription for OVER THE COUNTER BENADRYL and I swear I heard her say under breath «Meth» to her understudy who was my room with her. REALLY?! Because I’m thin? Maybe I take care of myself unlike her who looked like a fat fucking size 15. Then she accused me of trying to leave without filling out paperwork! By the way Baylor, Nurse Hollie, it’s unbelievably sad that the pharmacy tech at CVS helped me more than you did. I actually just got accepted into nursing school myself so how could I possibly be on «meth». I’m astonished by her completely unprofessional behavior. You should not treat people that way.

This is really just a tip. There are only diet sodas here. I was visiting my father, and he was in the hospital for 4 nights. The first night we just thought it was a fluke and we were obviously missing something. Either they were sold out or we weren’t looking in the right place. The 2^nd day i started getting a migraine and cokes sometimes help with that, so we asked. They don’t have them because diet is healthier. Wow… Aspartame good for us? Hhhmmm…

The staff is awsome. My wife gave birth here on 1÷7÷15. Dr Gunby was so humble and kind. Dr Gunby has many years of experience. Our nurse Susie was a sweet heart. Susie took care of my wife and made sure everything went smooth. The facility was awsome but it was the staff that made it stand out.

Such a sweet and pleasant staff. Everyone from the doctors to the cleaning crew that i came into contact with were so sweet and accommodating. And i wasn’t even a patient. The rooms was nice and comfortable. They seemed to have great maternity care.

Everyone here was very nice during my Mom’s knee replacement at Truitt and recovery after. The hand casts are very strange, but the café was delicious and the prices were great!

I made the mistake of taking my Mom to the Baylor ER last night, mainly because her doctor has privileges at Baylor. Her blood pressure was through the roof, and her medications had stopped controlling it.
We actually went to Concentra first, because if it was a simple issue, we wouldn’t have to go through the ordeal of an ER. Unfortunately, the doctor there said he would order blood tests and his results came back too slowly, so we should go to the ER.
We usually go to Presbyterian, since that’s where our family doctor is located, but Mom’s is at Baylor, so that’s where we went.
This was the worst Emergency Room experience I’ve ever had. The waiting room was full of people who didn’t really seem to have emergencies. We arrived about 8:30pm and we didn’t get into a room until after midnight. Apparently, a high blood pressure that could be damaging organs (according to the doctor at Concentra) is not as important as some of the other cases they had. We finally got out about 3am. This seems like a really long time for a condition that was easily treated with medication — which is what finally happened.
Everyone (except the nurses) just seemed to be going through the motions. There was no real caring or concern, just «fill in these forms, go wait over there.» While many of the people in the waiting room were probably not true emergencies, if a doctor tells me to take Mom to the ER, I think her case probably is.
Jason, the condescending physician’s assistant (we never saw an actual doctor) basically said he would just send her home with a 180+ blood pressure, but since we were there, he would run some tests. At this point, Mom’s blood pressure was ²⁰⁸⁄₉₄.
Just send her home?
My Mom was a nurse. She was concerned. My wife dealt with her Mom’s declining health for years — including small strokes, and she was concerned. Hell, I ignore most medical issues, and I was concerned. The MD doctor at Concentra was concerned.
The Physician’s Assistant at Baylor didn’t think it was a big deal. WTF?
Now, I’m sure you can get burned out in an inner-​city ER full of people with minor issues that don’t have personal care physicians (but all seem to have smartphones and iPads), but that doesn’t mean you are allowed to discount your patient’s comfort and care. If you have someone with high blood pressure, try not to spike it by mentioning that it’s really not high enough to be a concern to you. Also, try not to complain about how you don’t have the proper equipment to do tests.
I find it interesting that the Concentra DOCTOR thought asymptomatic high blood pressure was enough of an issue to do immediate tests — and sent us to the ER so the test results could be returned more quickly — but the PA at the hospital didn’t think it was a big deal. Perhaps that’s why he’s not a real doctor.
The ER is a dump, which is interesting considered there are donor plaques everywhere. Maybe all they donated were the plaques. Other than the free charging stations for the ever-​present cell phones, nothing worked. The soda machine didn’t take coins, bills or credit cards. The coffee machine was out of order.
The most exciting moments in the waiting room were the older woman loudly berating the staff because they wouldn’t give her a free ride home and the guy running in asking where to go for gunshots. (He never came back, so I’m not sure if he had one or wanted one.)
The most telling moment was when Mom said that triage from the military was when you found the wounded you could save, and left the rest to die. Since we hadn’t had any interaction with staff in quite a while at that point, but they had taken her blood pressure, and it was elevated, she thought she had been left to die.
I don’t think many doctors would be happy with patients thinking, «Wow. He’s just going to let me die.»
It was not a pleasant evening. Trips to the ER generally aren’t, but this was actually very unpleasant.
If you have a condition that requires a trip to the emergency room, it should be treated with some expediency and caring. Baylor failed miserably at this. The staff did not give me the confidence that someone actually cared about the patient’s condition or considered it serious.
(Mom’s much better today, thanks for asking. Her doctor changed her meds, so hopefully, this is the last ER visit.)

This review is for their ER (Emergency Room) This place is an over priced, dump. Horrendous place, with other facilities in the area I highly recommend you avoid Baylor like the plague. After 6.5 hours in their ER from hell was misdiagnosed by nurse practitioner (Darrel Morrison) because the doctor never came to see us in person! The same unseen doctor apparently billed for Darrel Morrison at the rate of $ 1038.00 for less then 20 min of his time and his misdiagnosis.
After speaking to our insurance company found out that Baylor apparently charges the highest rates in the industry for the area. Guess those good Baptist need to fill their coffers some how, bless their little stone hearts.
If your going to treat people like crap and over charge them at least practice good medicine. Your better served going to The Presbyterian Hospital (a few miles away) where they treat you well, doctors actually see their patients and you actually get the correct diagnosis and care! And guess what, it’s cheaper!

They have a Clinical Diagnostic Unit where they run test before a full admission. This is actually really cool because they don’t waste a room and they are able to clear the ER. It’s been years since I’ve been at this location and I give it 4 stars because all the new additions makes it hard to navigate this place. All the walls look the same with very little signage and landmarks! They do have maps but if you don’t have signage it’s pointless! Every one is super nice and they make a stressful situation better. Baylor has a fantastic Cardiac center and they do everything to eliminate other medical issues before they give a bad heart diagnosis. The best part is it is within walking distance of Deep Ellum and you can catch a good lunch or dinner and not have to eat hospital food! All in all it is a great facility (except for the maze effect) and I recommend it!

Doctor’s, Technician’s, Nurses, and Office Staff are so nice and friendly.
I can’t remember the number of times people asked me «How are you doing today», was very nice to hear that from the hospital staff.
This week I met with 6 different people explaining to me the process of an organ transplant and what they different steps entailed. Also providing me time to ask questions.
I had three different diagnostic tests, and the technician’s, nurses, and other personnel involved in my care.
The décor of the hospital buildings are all comfortable, the a/​c makes you cold so bring a sweatshirt or light jacket if you are waiting for a patient who has a test that last more than an hour.

Worst experience of any hospital I’ve ever been to… and I’ve been to plenty. Parkland is a 12 star compared to Baylor. They were rude… unprofessional & slow.
I brought my son-​in-​law w/​a gash (more like a missing chunk of flesh) in his forehead… he was bleeding everywhere & in excruciating pain… they said cause he was conscience that he had to wait…
Every time we said something they would ignore us more… they even passed us up cause he rolled outside!!!
That was it… I’ll never go to this hospital ever again & I live 5 blocks away!!!

Wow you can get lost in all the buildings. Doctors take forever. Appt time should be an appt time you should not have to wait an hour after. Parking is only paid… get ready to dish out some $.

I recently did a 5 day stint in the Baylor Headache Clinic. Baylor Headache so far on my headache journey has been great. The doctors listen and that’s a great place to start.
The inpatient program was a little interesting though. I understand we are headache patients, but I don’t need to hear a nurse in the hall say I am «just» a headache patient. She wasn’t my nurse. But still. Our pain is still pain. The rooms were incredibly tiny for such a long stay as well.
But on the plus side, the nurses I had were magnificent. I actually miss seeing them. The food was pretty good. The cafes have good food as well. Healing gardens and plenty of places to walk make this an A-​Ok place to spend five days in pain.

This review is about the food and not the medical services, but read on and you’ll see why a separate review is warranted!
If you happen to find yourself stuck at the behemoth that is BUMC for an extended length of time, do yourself a favor and visit the Truett Café or Atrium Café.
For starters, both cafes are managed by an outside company, which means some pretty top notch cuisine at both locations. You will not find any mystery meat and mashed potatoes on the menu, instead you’ll find healthy selections like made to order paninis and salads, fresh vegetables, grilled turkey burgers, even fresh made sushi! They also display nutritional info for all selections to aid in making healthy choices. Definitely, not what you’d expect from a hospital cafeteria.
My SIL just had a baby here and we visited the Atrium Café while waiting on baby. I had a made to order turkey and apple panini with a key lime tart. It was so good, I’d consider swinging by the café even if I had no other medical– related business at the hospital!

I’ve been in the ER here once myself and once with some friends. When it was me, I waited a few hours in the waiting room before being called back under the wrong name — they misspelled my last name so my family couldn’t find me in any hospital database — thanks! Once I got inside the labyrinth of rooms and assigned a bed, I was attended to rather quickly, and over the next few hours actually received care by the ER staff. Unfortunately for me, it was determined I required a specialist to perform an operation related to my injury, and the specialist didn’t show up when he was supposed to, and on top of that, there was a shift change for the ER staff so I had no doctor attending to me at all for what must have been about 8 hours. The ER doctors/​nurses/​staff called and called and called (the specialist), and though he said he’d arrive at 6am, he didn’t show until nearly 6pm. After waiting for over 12 hours in a bed in the emergency room, having been denied pain killers and any sort of care because the specialist was not there to examine me, I feel a bit shafted. A pain level of 9−10÷10 shouldn’t be allowed to fester for hours on end while nurses call a doctor who has no apparent intention to show up to treat you. The initial ER doctor was great, but if you require emergency opthamological care, go to a different hospital because at Baylor, you’ll just be left to suffer.

I have spent a lot of time with the Doctor’s at Baylor as well as my family members.
If you need a hand specialist, then go see Dr. Paul Ellis, if you need a good internest go see Dr. Robert Myers, if you need a good podiatrist, go see Dr. Peter Wood. Again, I can’s say enough good things about the care I have received at Baylor. This is a Hospital that actually cares about their patients and not just getting reimbursed by your insurance.

I suspect these glowing reviews are fraudulent. Fact is, Baylor is dangerous to your health! The staff doctors, referred to as «hospitalists», rotate around various departments, working in each for 2 days. This means you will not have one doctor to oversee your care. Nor does this result in a «team» approach, as the doctors never meet to discuss the patient — instead each leaves handwritten notes in the file for the next to read. This is like some dysfunctional family communicating with slips of paper stuck on a refrigerator door.
Important information about the patient is lost; decisions are made by doctors who just saw the patient for the first time — for less than 5 minutes; and because everybody shares responsibility for the patient, NOBODY has responsibility. Our 10 day experience involved about a dozen doctors, few of whom saw the patient more than once. Everything is, like, for the first time and very S L O W.
Incoming patients are given a brochure that explains the system and gives a hotline number to call if the it isn’t working. Good luck with that — calling this hotline «team» is to press a button that isn’t connected to anything. Go higher up in the organization for action from senior management? Sorry but you will find no «there» there.
The nurses are reasonably attentive, the technicians who operate the outdated instrumentation are capable, and the sanitation crew is always busy, busy, busy. But if a diverse workforce (older, younger, male, female, black, white, hispanic, asian, etc) optimizes performance by providing a cross-​section of the community, you will immediately see a problem in that regard.
Unless you are about to die in the parking lot of this hospital, you must go somewhere else. Really. Baylor is unbelievably bad.
