Around The Block Moving

I had a two bedroom small apartment with a queen bed, king bed, IKEA dresser and small dining table, a couch and about 10 – 15 medium sized boxes. They send two guys over who literally took 8 – 9 hours to complete the move 20min down the road. Most of the time wasted was due to their choice of walking down a long hallway to use the slow elevator, drop off everything outside the elevator, then load the elevator with a few things, go down one floor, unload those items, go back up and repeat. This was their alternative to simply walking down a shorter hallway to use the stairs to go down one floor straight to their truck. They charged $ 1000 and added a fuel surcharge because the delivery ended after 9pm (or 10pm, w/​e). They started at 2pm. I could’ve done the move using camels in less time, including the time it takes to pick up their excrement along the way. They refunded me $ 100 for my complaint to the owner/​manager and still maintain their «expert» movers always choose the best strategy when it comes to stairs vs elevator. Note that this move happened two years ago but is still fresh in my mind. I just had to write about it because every time I see one of their trucks on the road I feel another guy is getting screwed over every day. Never using again and will always recommend against them.

Suzette was great getting the appointment setup and then followed up afterwards. The two guys that actually performed the move (Austin & Daniel) were fun to be around, and very courteous. not to mention fast but very careful. They even gave me a housewarming gift at the very end of the move– which was awesome and unexpected :-)
I most certainly recommend them to anyone looking for a fair price, and outstanding customer service.

Update: since posting this review I have been contacted by Suzette at ATB moving. She’s now threatening to take me to court.
I want to inform you of my experience with Around The Block Moving. I have never written a review like this before, but figured it was time to start after the way they conducted themselves during and after my move. I am not naïve enough to say that this is how your experience will be if you use them for your move, but this is what happened to me, and I think it says a lot about their integrity as a company.
I called and spoke to Suzette who gave me a quote and scheduled my move with no issues. The morning of the move the Trey and Freddie showed up, and they were nice enough guys. Everything was going good until I came back in the house and Trey pointed out to me that a chair was broken. I had been moving some misc items into my own car so I wasn’t inside when the chair was broken. I don’t think Trey broke it because Freddie had been working in that area so my assumption was that he broke the chair, but again I didn’t see it with my own eyes so I can’t say for sure. What I can say for sure is that the chair wasn’t broken when the guys arrived. I asked Freddie what happened and he denied breaking the chair so I immediately called Suzette. She asked if I bought additional insurance and I said no, because I wasn’t told that I could. A few minutes later I came out to my car again and noticed that Trey was messing with the chair on the truck. He had tried to glue the chair back together and clamped it with some tools he had on the truck. Personally I wouldn’t be trying to fix something I «didn’t» break without talking to the owner. Keep in mind that this is a pretty hard to find chair from a hand made dining room set that he is gluing together in the back of his truck. Suzette called me back and said that without having purchased the additional insurance there was nothing she could do. I told her this was really unfortunate and that I was going to write them a very honest review if they didn’t resolve the issue. Suzette called back to say that she had spoken to the owner and he authorized her to reimburse me up to $ 500 for the repair or replacement of the chair. I couldn’t find a replacement for the chair online without buying an entire set ($ 1,800) so I got an estimate for repair and left it with the repair company (Elite Furniture Repair). The cost to repair the chair was $ 189 which is well under what I knew she was authorized to pay me so I didn’t think we would have an issue. I called Suzette to let her know that I had left the chair and that I had an estimate that I was ready to send her. She then informed me that they had spoken to Trey and gotten new information and that they would not be paying for the repair. I was pretty frustrated at this point so I told her I was going to write the review and be done with the situation. She said «give me 48 hours and I’ll talk to the owner one last time and see what we can do». 72 hours later I hadn’t hear back so I called Suzette to see what was going on. She said verbatim «I didn’t know if you were just going to go away because sometimes customers just let it go». She once again informed me that they would not pay for the repair of the chair so I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I will attach the response from Around The Block Moving on sites that provide the option. The gist of it is that they called me a liar, attacked my personal character, and said that I had threatened to defame their company, and that they would sue if I wrote a review. Somehow telling Suzette I was going to write an honest review just became defamation.
The bottom line is first, know that you have an option to purchase additional insurance even though they probably will not tell you that. Second, know that if something happens and you don’t have the insurance they are not going to do the right thing. I offered them a chance to make it right for far less than what they said they were willing to pay and they still didn’t do the right thing. I just want you guys to be informed. I’ll be moving forward with my complaint with Better Business Bureau for whatever it’s worth, but I’m sure that it won’t make a difference. If ATB decides at some point to do the right thing and make this situation right I will update my review and let you guys know what happened. Good luck with you move!

My husband and I drove a 26′ truck from Maryland to Texas. We do not have any contacts here in Texas, so we «googled» movers and took a chance. We hired ATB Moving to offload the truck once we arrived at our new home. Our movers were Chris and Austin. They did a tremendous job. The truck was unloaded quickly and our furniture assembled promptly. I was very impressed! I called the office just to let the supervisor know how satisfied we were with the service. The cost was reasonable. When we purchase our new home here in Texas, we will DEFINITELY call ATB for that move as well.

I feel compelled as sales manager to reply to Janet. She was scheduled to more over the weekend of May 29 – 30, one of the wettest weekends in Dallas history. Janet changed the original time set for the move. We then had a cancelation for the first move of the morning on Friday, 5/​29, she declined the new time. We always call our customers to keep them apprised of an estimated arrival time, but this was not acceptable to her, so I offered to move her the next day, Saturday, the first appointment of the day. Unfortunately, it rained torrentially. We will not move our customers belongings in the rain. We treat our customers with excellent customer service and inform our movers to treat our customers as if they are family and their possessions as their own.
Janet got upset, then angry that we were not at her home at precisely 8am, when we scheduled the arrival time between an hour window of 8 to 9am. I explained that we were waiting to see if the rain dissipated and that all our morning moves had been suspended. She was the only customer that did not understand why. She also repeatedly told me she was an attorney. Whether we are moving a senator, brick layer, we treat all our customers with the same respect, our best customer service. We realize the greatest advertising is word of mouth and after 20 years of service we greatly appreciate our numerous repeat customers, their family, friends and wonderful referrals!

Please do not use this company; you just cannot rely on them and they are very unprofessional. I had a reservation for 12 – 1, but they just did not show. I called and Suzette said the office forgot to write it down, and had me at 3 – 4. Around 2 o’clock, Suzette said actually it would not be until 5 – 6. That would not work for us, so they rescheduled for 8−9am the next day. But they did not show. I waited for an hour again before calling. Suzette said she did not know, but would get back to me. I called again 1hr later and she said they wouldn’t work in the rain. 10 moving companies in Dallas all told me they were working in the rain, and some even suspected Around the Block was jerking me around. I would have loved to go with those companies, but because of the late notice, they were all booked. People who are moving depend on moving companies to keep their word. My whole family had to rearrange my Mother’s birthday plans, dentist appointments, and so many other things because of how ATB kept changing the time on us. It is inexcusable.

I needed to move a piece of exercise equipment for my boss. I was informed of this after 6pm so I literally had 2 hours the next morning to get someone hired and moving the equipment.
I called up ATB, they squeezed me in, were early and very professional. I will use these guys again and ask for Chris and Austin by name.

Suzette was the first person I spoke to at this place-​she is a no-​nonsense person and I like that-​she scheduled my move quickly and efficiently. I had planned to call a few places but I instantly liked her and decided to go with my gut. The movers were just plain wonderful. Andy, Trey, and Austin were careful, quick, hard working, and fun to have around all day. I really liked the fact that they seemed to genuinely enjoy working together, moving is stressful enough without having to worry that your movers don’t want to be there or can’t wait to be done for the day. I had an issue come up at the end of the day (not even their fault, my fault) that was quickly resolved by the guys and Suzette– and I wasn’t even charged for it (when they had every right to!) Suzette called me periodically to check on how things were going too, which I appreciated. I would highly recommend this company! I just want to add that I was in no way compensated for this review-​they did ask that if I was happy with the service would I leave a good review –I am more than happy to share my positive experience with these great people. The best moving service that I have ever used! The movers were friendly and took very good care of my things. They worked quickly and helped make the move as painless as possible! I will definitely be using them again the next time I move and will recommend them to everyone!

Scheduled an appointment with Suzette who offered a reasonable quote and explained any surcharges that may apply. As promised, she confirmed the appointment with me the day before and provided an accurate window of time. She also followed up after the appointment to be sure everything was done to my satisfaction.
Freddie and Trey showed up exactly on time and were very courteous. They explained the process and got straight to work – which helps since they charge by the hour. They took care of everything and went above and beyond to make sure I was happy. The pricing was exactly what I expected with no surprises.
I was definitely nervous about the move and hiring a company I hadn’t heard of, but I’m glad I chose Around the Block.

Thank you Freddie and Trey. You made a stressful time so much better. I appreciate the special care you gave to my belongings and the kindness you showed me.

This was an amazing moving experience. Trey and Freddie were incredible at moving all my stuff fast but being careful and professional. I would highly recommend! Also, it was very affordable.

Given the chance to do this again, I would not use ATB, but they DID move my stuff.
I made a reservation for movers over a week in advance for Saturday, 8 – 9 am, knowing that one truck was out of service and that I may have to move my appointment. I was called early in the week of the move and told that the truck wasn’t back yet, and we needed to move the appointment as expected. We settled on Friday at 3 – 4 pm. They worked with my girlfriend, were accommodating, etc. No problems here. Great communication.
Note: They don’t charge gas fees, but do charge for «travel time» to and from shop. No way to confirm actual travel time, completely up to the driver.
Problems start here:
Two days before the move, I get a call confirming my appointment for Friday from 12 – 1. When I explained that I was supposed to be from 3 – 4 pm and that I had meetings moved around so I couldn’t make the 12 – 1, I was told «I don’t know what to tell you. You’re on the board for 12 – 1.» We went back and forth and eventually he told me, «I’ll see what I can do.» Eventually, magically, I got my 3 – 4 slot back.
In hindsight, this is a great way for moving companies to switch up their appointment times to fill their day — I just wish I had been given the option and not been told «your problem, not ours.»
On the day of the move, I got home at 2:45. No sign of movers by 3:30, so I gave the company a call. They were embarrassed (good sign!) and said they’d get back to me. They called back shortly and said that the movers were caught on a job about 45 minutes away and it would be 5:30−6 pm until they showed up. I asked for a discount, «no way; out of our control, happens all the time.» Agreed to 5:30−6.
Got a call about 5 saying it was going to be 6:30−7. Got a call around 6:30 saying it was going to be 7:30 or 8. No compensation/​discount/​refund. I’m sitting in my apartment on the floor.
7:30, movers finally arrive. Begin complaining about last job, my job is going to be so easy, etc. etc. etc.
I very carefully showed them a piece of furniture, explaining it was fragile, it was heavy, I would be checking it after the moved, etc. They said «No problem, don’t worry about anything, we pay for damages.»
They move all my stuff. Don’t bother marking boxes «fragile» or «this side up» — they’re going to move them however they want. Everything gets thrown in one big cart (HOWEVER it will «fit») and taken to the truck.
When they unloaded my furniture, I checked the piece, and sure enough, there was a nick in the finish in wood. After the movers completed moving boxes, which I helped them with, I showed them the damage.
We went from «we’ll take care of you» to «we’ve been busting our ass for you, cut us a break.» I was yelled at by both movers, one of them was a little in my face. I don’t think I saw this part in the papers I signed.
I contacted their office sales manager, told her the situation, told her I would sign for the move, but not to charge my card until this had been resolved. I also told her that if they did, I would reject the charge on VISA and her reply was «okay that’s fine we’ll take care of it.» Spoiler alert: they charged my card right away.
I contacted them the next week to resolve the issues, and no matter my suggestion, they weren’t willing to completely solve the problem or partially refund me. I’ve been accused of lying by both managers at this point, and they’re 100% unwilling to help me out. I have recorded audio and photos, and they don’t care.
I informed her that I would contact the BBB and reject the charge with VISA. She hung up on me.
Bottom line on 2 stars: They moved my stuff from A to B. Most of it stayed intact, they weren’t wiling to own up to the damage they did do. They’re pretty hostile if you have a problem. If you shut up and leave them alone, they’ll do their job however they want.

Chris and Reggie did a fantastic job getting me out of one apartment and into another in only a few hours. Suzette made the booking easy and even checked up on things on a Sunday during the move. Would definitely recommend ATB to anyone looking to move.

So glad I chose ATB to help with our move. Everything from start to finish went smooth. Suzette provided great customer service and the moving crew (which consisted of Sean and another gentleman) were prompt and courteous. It was a very hot summer day in August and I never heard one complaint from either one of them. I 100% recommend this company and will definitely be using them again for my next move.

I used these movers back in May when I moved to a new apartment. They showed up early (after calling first) and they were ready to get the job done. They had everything moved in an hour. These guys are friendly, efficient and their pricing is very affordable.

Kudos to Shawn and Jonathan for making my move stress free. Just 2 guys helped move my entire apartment 20 miles away in under 3 hours. They were punctual, careful and I can’t emphasize more on how quick they moved everything.

Where do I start? These guys were amazing!
I called around looking for the the best movers when my husband and I planned our move for the middle of May. Around the Block Moving provided a completive but affordable price and an outstanding BBB rating. Plus, they have been in business for over twenty years. I knew that these were my guys.
When I called to set up the move, I worked with Suzette. She was wonderful. When I expressed initial interest, she made sure to follow up. However, my only compliant about Around the Block Moving, was that the week of the move, I had to initiate the verification. When I called on Monday (the move was on Thursday) they assured me that someone would call me on Tuesday. When I hadn’t heard from anyone on Tuesday, I called again on Wednesday and made sure that everything was good to go.
Jonathon and Brandon were the movers that assisted us the day of the move. We moved from a third floor apartment (sorry guys!) to a first floor apartment. They hustled and did this move in 3.5 hours! But just because they moved quickly does not mean that they were carless with our belongings. Jonathon and Brandon took very good care of our things and made sure that everything arrive in one piece. Nothing was broken and I felt like a valued customer.
I would highly recommend Around the Block Moving and Jonathon and Brandon for anyone making any sort of move. They are competitively and affordably priced and truly care about their cliental.

Our move happened back in August, and I feel terrible for forgetting to write about my wonderful experience until now.
Their central office could not reach the guy that was supposed to help us with our move (into a one bedroom apartment in Uptown), so it looked like we were going to be unable to get our move done that day. But thankfully, ROBERT and FREDDY came around 5:00 (as they were supposed to be getting off work, mind you) and in addition to being unbelievably efficient with the job, were as nice and professional as could be, too. Their friendliness was in spite of the fact that Robert had been pulling into his driveway well north of town when he got the call, and turned right around and came to help us. When it was over, they were very fair with the price, and even sent me some drink coupons as an apology for the first guy not showing up. Thanks to Robert and Freddy, though, no apology was in order, and they are the only moving service I will ever use here!
Earlier in the day, we were all furious, but because of Robert and Freddy, we became VERY satisfied customers! 5 stars!

We were very pleased with the service we received from Around the Block Moving! Our two crew members worked hard and were very professional and friendly. They arrived early (what, what?!) and ready to work. We moved from a 2^nd floor apt and storage unit to a 3 story townhouse, and they handled it like it was nothing.
Getting movers with their own truck is a no-​brainer, especially with their reasonable prices! We’ve had experiences with 3 different moving companies, and this has been our favorite thus far. At the rate we move around, I’m sure we’ll be calling them again in a year!
