Very disappointed, we drove down to Bishop Arts district midday Monday and found neither of the two Thrift Store/Antique businesses open. Apparently they make enough money the rest of the week that they don’t want or need anyone’s money on Monday. Worse — their sign said OPEN. Entire location is a busy on Mondays. Take your money somewhere else to spend… the new economy merchants have a slightly different take on commerce than their predecessors .

This is a cute little antique store, worth checking out while wandering around the Bishop Arts District. The first thing you’ll notice is the giant kitten on the porch, which gives you an idea of the fun oddities you’ll find inside. Unlike other antique stores, they’re not packed wall-to-wall with things to look at, in fact inventory seems very carefully laid out. You’ll definitely find more higher-priced items here than at their sister store in the area, DFW M’antiques. The owner and his wife are very nice and happy to talk with you about their store. It’s a small space in an old house, and because of that I felt a little bit at risk of knocking something over as I walked through(more so than at other antique stores I’ve visited) so tread carefully. Certainly an enjoyable shopping experience in a great location, with some fun items to explore.

Antiques On Bishop is a great little addition to the high-traffic pedestrian corner that 8th& Bishop has become. It’s owned by the same guys as Mantiques, but the items are a little more spread out, almost like an old house would be arranged. Items ranged from a working vintage slot machine, a 1940’s Fender amp and a WWII era Russian propoganda poster to a trunk full of ladies hats, a small enamel Singer sewing machine and a hand-engraved silver make-up compact. One of the owners was there when we stopped in and is super friendly, enthusiastically sharing what he knew about each object’s history and inviting us to touch or try our the items for sale. Most of the curiosities seemed reasonably priced, although I have no idea for sure on some of them since they were so unique. Definitely worth a stop if you like peeking into windows to the past, if you’re not quite sure what you’re looking for or if you just want to chat with another dude about history.
