Another Time & Place

Regretfully this place is about to close (or are they? the «going out of business sale has been going on for a year!) but they do have another location in Frisco I think.
This is another place I could browse for hours, feeling like I’m in a market in Morrocco or Turkey or one of the ‘stans.
From blankets (suzanis) and rugs to lanterns and dishes, the gorgeous colors and patterns catch your eye from ceiling to floor in this family owned imports emporium.
Definitely another place to come if you are looking for something «out of the box» for a gift or just a treat for yourself!

I’m sincerely hoping that this shop keeps on delaying closure — from what I recall, May 2011 was the initial «last month in business», but they just keep on rolling. Usually, a constant «Going Out Of Business Sale» sign on a shop is an annoying scam — in this case, they can hang that thing outside the front door all they want. Just stick around, is all I ask.
I first visited Another Time & Place some months ago, on the recommendation of my husband’s friend — they wear a good deal of Turkish jewelry, and filled me in on their source. I was — and still am — blown away by the selection offered — not just in the jewelry section, but among the lanterns, kilims, garments, decorations and more… it’s a treasure trove of beauty, unique in Dallas. My main weakness, and I know I’m not alone here, lies in their selection of nazar boncuk charms — the blue and white glass «eyes» prevalent in Mediterranean cultures. An entire corner of the shop is devoted to them — on keychains, necklaces, lanterns, rings, magnets, even — for crying out loud — cigarette lighters. Even in NYC, I never bumped into such a collection of them — and they’re well-​priced, to boot.
So, regardless of whether or not they’re planning on closing, I strongly recommend a visit. Even if you aren’t specifically drawn toward Turkish and Mediterranean goods, you’re certain to find something appealing. Another benefit is the location — next to La Mariposa, and just across from Pandemonium Vintage, and Emeralds To Coconuts. A wonderful shopping jaunt for the creative-​minded. Have fun!

Lanterns, lanterns and more lanterns! The second you walk into this place the soft glow of beautiful colored lanterns soothes you. The door says «travel the world without jetlag» But everything here looks very middle eastern to me, and when talking to one of the owners, he made it pretty clear that most of their items come from Turkey, so don’t expect to find much outside of that region here (its not a disappointment though, everything they have is good quality with intricate detail)
They have exquisite rugs, purses, jewelry and oh yes did I mention the lanterns?! I couldn’t help myself from constantly staring up at the ceiling at all the pretty colors. I definitely left the store with a crick in my neck.
Oh and the owner says they are moving locations and trying to liquidate things, right now everything is %60 off, but I imagine you could probably haggle with them a little, especially if you are getting a few things.

Uh oh, this place is TROUBLE for me. It’s like World Market and Pier 1 on crack. Where’s my sugar daddy? Oh Sugar Daddy? I found a rug I need you to buy me… and this bracelet… and these dishes… and, and, and…

Great place, and next door to La Mariposa, so you can stock up on Oaxacan blouses and Day of the Dead stuff and then peruse the goodies at Another Time & Place. I bought some great Ikat and Suzani pillow covers here for $ 16 – 18 (half off of the sticker price, which is still ridiculously low) — just like the pillows you see in Dwell, Elle Décor, House Beautiful, etc., but for a fraction of the going price, even with the cost of pillow inserts (purchased elsewhere) factored in. Beautiful Suzani bed covers, too, and great Iznik ceramic pieces and tableware. Oh, and the coolest cowboy boots you have ever seen, heavily embroidered in gorgeous bright colors! (Those aren’t cheap, but they are definitely statement pieces and well worth the look.)

Five star for price (everything is half off!), and Super friendly staff!
Bugs me that I just find out about this place and it’s shutting down. It’s been open for 14 years! I gotta get out more.
I couldn’t afford to walk into this place but thankfully my foodie buddies, Jen and Jimbo are turkish coffee junkies like me and told me about the traditional tea and coffee sets there. Copper set is nice and controls heat well.
Get there while you can!!!

If the answer is sure, why not? Then go here. You can’t stop going. I daydream about this place and look through my planner for an opening when I can get myself over here!
This is the coolest place ever with truly authentic pieces from overseas. The store owner is really nice and from Turkey and will tell you stories about it.
This place has clothes, jewelry, home décor, and little lucky charms.

My favorite shop on Knox-​Henderson. Huge collection of Turkish evil eye jewelry and home décor items, plus ethnic fabrics, general jewelry (they had an interesting array of vintage rings from Afghanistan when I was there recently), glass pendant lamps, painted dishwear, and more.
Staff is friendly and thanked us several times for our business, which was nice.
A shop to appeal to the aspiring world traveler who can’t find the time to leave town.

This is one of the coolest stores I’ve ever seen. It’s like having an immediate passports to countries all over the world. They sell evil eye jewelry, Taiwanese singing frogs, and even fake snow! I’ve bought a Turkish pop music cd, a necklace, and a bin handcrafted from recycled soda cans. You can definitely get lost in here on your first visit. Don’t worry about lingering because the staff is always really nice and helpful.

Judging by the name of this place, you’d think it was one of those doily-​and-​bunny-​doll shops — but it’s not. It actually has a world bazaar sort of flavor, with lots of cool tribal and handmade jewelry, boho clothing and various candles, soaps and accessories for your slightly hippie side.
This is Henderson down past the Monk — across the street from Cuba Libre and Fireside Pies. It’s worth a visit if you’re shopping the strip, and the staff just couldn’t be sweeter.
