1st Generation Moving

If you are reading this, please do not use 1^st generation moving. They lie about the quote for one thing, they do no not communicate well with the details on your move, you have to reach out to them for any questions you may have. I had the estimator come out and do a quote and when he came I had a full house so the total he came up with was 3500, so I said no way and had a massive garage sale and all we had left were boxes, bed, dresser and a TV.
I called and told them exactly what I had so the quote came down to 1500, great right? Not even close, they came to load everything up and when it was all said and done this man said we owed 3200 $!! All of our stuff was in the truck and we had to move that day so I was forced to pay, I was so outraged! If you are still reading please please read the fine print with this moving company, I would never in my life recommend 1^st generation moving to anyone I know. DO NOT USE THEM!

Just the worst.
I was moving from Dallas to LA. They came over to wrap and pack my stuff, which was fine. I asked them when they would get to LA. I said could you get there on Thursday or Friday? They said absolutely.
So I drive out to get there Thursday, and then I get a call once I’m there, they won’t be there until the following Wednesday. So I have to sleep in an empty apartment on the floor for 5 days before they come. They don’t care about the customer.
Also, when moving furniture from the truck to the apartment, they will try to nickle and dime you anyway possible.
They also ruined my couch, and said it’s okay, just file an insurance claim. The insurance company they use comes back with $ 75 compensation. What kind of couch am I suppose to buy for $ 75? This was a nice leather couch. I did not accept the compensation — I would not let them off.
On top of that, one of the movers stole my box cutter knife, admitted to it after the fact when I called him, and then made no effort to return it to me.
Do not work with these guys. Except for the initial wrapping and packing, they will screw you at ever level.

I called for a quote and spoke at length, and in great detail, with an estimator who was friendly. When the pick-​up crew came they were friendly and quick, although they seemed a bit rough with my stuff (not loading totes gently or deliberately, but they did thoroughly wrap all furniture). When I was given the semi-​final total it was $ 500 more than the quote, even though I was minus a washer/​dryer and everything else they picked up had been accounted for. The main guy gave me $ 100 off to try to compensate, which was nice. But that’s as far as the good review goes. When I called he estimator to understand why the total came out higher than the quote, it was determined that he under-​estimated the size of 32 totes, as well as the size ofy two largest pieces of furniture, even though I, as the «unknowing customer» gave as much detail as I could (including tote capacity and explicit detail as to the sizes of my furniture). They, as the do-​this-​every-​day-​professionals, did not review or follow-​up on my detail, and did not do an in-​home inspection to ensure that nothing was over-​looked. While I was disputing the extra charges, the wstimator (same guy) was very short and rude, in that he would cut me off when i tried to plead my case and would «argue» back, instead of maintaining a professional demeanor. When I spoke again with the main guy (owner?) and tried to plead my case, after much back-​and-​forth, he finlally agreed to «eat» half the difference between the quote and final total (which was driven up by the inaccurate input). Also, when I spoke to the estimator the first time, we agreed on a Thursday pick-​up because I could not be at the final destination (1100 miles away) until the following Wednesday, and needed my stuff delivered no later than the following Friday. He said he could «see no reason why it couldn’t deliver by the followinh Friday». Then, when the main guy was going over paperwork, I explained he same thing, and he explained that the delivery was 7 – 10 days as of the first available delivery date per the customer (which meant any time from the Wednesday I requested to the fordsy after that… Which would be a minimum of two weeks from the day they picked up my stuff. But even though this was the standard, the main guy told me the same thing, that there was no reason my stuff couldn’t deliver by the followinh Friday. My stuff did not arrive until seven days after I did, and 12 days after they picked it up. When I expressed my frustration at this delay (I was starting a new job and couldn’t take off work to receive my stuff, and didn’t want to get charged an extra $ 79/​hr while they waited for me to get off work) the main guy was also rude and argumentative, and just kept telling me «it’s in the contract». Yes, it was in the contract and I failed because I did not read it all, by there was absolutely nothing about this process that was easy, or that left me feeling valued or taken care of. I would NOT recommend these guys, unless they started taking more time to really explain the details and check for understanding, and unless they followed up the phone-​quote with an in-​home evaluation. I understand it’s hard to exact a cost, but I defintley feel that this do-​this-​every-​day company could have executed more accurately.

Very good and courteous movers. Showed up on time and was very careful when moving my things. They had very competitive prices. I definitely would use them again!

For the record, the only reason why the arbitrator weighed in your favor is because YOU instructed me to file a claim with your insurance company for all of my losses. In doing so, waives my right to further claims and absolves First Generation. After filing, you never offered to compensate me as you promised so in my opinion I was tricked again by you and your company. You may have escaped under the BBB due to a technicality however, I did not waive my right to freedom of speech and warning others of your deceptive practices. In fact, you did tell me on the phone that you personally moved my brand new and expensive iPod docking station to the company you subcontracted with. They or you lost it in transit. However i am left with the loss and you and the other company you hired are pointing fingers at each other. Also, I did send to the BBB emails from your associates clearly stating the day my items would be delivered. That date was never honored however, again you conveniently escaped under the veil of the wavier. You are a business owner who can not be trusted and that is why Unilocal,Angies List and other sites are for — to share in our experiences. If you had reached out to me to correct the problem as you promised, none of this would have happened. However, you purposely had me file a claim which you knew would yield nothing close to what I lost knowing that in doing so waives further claims. Very interesting clause. I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH YOUR SERVICE AND YOU DID NOT HOLD UP TO YOUR WORD!
