Don’t complain! I’ve been going to Paul Mitchell school for over a year. Never had a problem until I notice my base retouch was not matching the rest of my hair. I walked in with a Groupon of $ 35 then I had to pay additional $ 27 to ensure my hair to match. Well… My base was one color the rest was another color and the bottom portion of my hair was another color: O
I called and was ask to come in — when I returned to PM school I notice the lady who did my hair previous had an attitude (Maubeth D’Ltme) when she called my name. I thought to myself she must feel my hair situation is her fault and I didn’t want an upset person doing my hair!!!
I explain to please not take this personal and she didn’t even respond. Maubeth want to get the floor lead a Chinese looking guy. He explains we had to lighten the hair and I had to pay again a to fix the problem. I was very disappointed and he explain I was given the choose to lighten my hair and I didn’t. I explained if the professional advice would have been given correctly by explaining my hair will be three different colors if I didn’t lighten my hair — I would have understood better. Then Maubeth interrupted and spoke with me while twisting her neck, pointing her finger at me and saying «It was your decision we told you!!!»
I was speechless and my only reaction was to say — oh my to think I apologize to you and said not to take this personal. The Chinese looking guy took her away.
The entire situation occurred and not ONE upper management approached me!!! I had to search the entire school to explain the situation! Unbelievable.
I was in tears by the disrespect and demeaning. The principal heard situation however never bothered to approach me. I had to search and locate him and ask to speak with him. Unbelievable!
I never wrote a bad review however as you can tell I feel others should know that if you want to go then just don’t complain!!! If you complain — nothing will be resolved and you will have F&*$ up hair!
To think this school carries the Paul Mitchell name and nothing is being done!!!

My review is based on the service I never received because I was left waiting for an hour before I walked out. I had a 3pm appt for makeup and an up-​do to attend my friends wedding. I arrived at 2:45pm and was told the student was still with her previous appt but would be done in time. Around 3:15 I was told they were getting her help so she could finish sooner. By 3:30 I spoke to the instructor and asked if there was someone else that could start on me. She said she would check and 15 mins later had totally ignored me. Totally unacceptable and unprofessional! Don’t care how much $$ you save, I will never go back there and don’t recommend anyone else should either.

So I bought a groupon and I was supposed to get my hair done last Friday but the person they assigned me to never showed up so they rescheduled my appointment to today. They just called me to tell me that the chick didn’t show up again. Instead of assigning me someone else, she told me that I pretty much am stuck with her. They only days I can do it is Friday’s. So I asked, is she ever going to come in on Fridays? So I’m pretty much stuck rescheduling. I was really looking forward to it as I’ve never had my hair professional dyed. I’m a stay at home mom and I REALLY needed this. :(

Do not get your hair done here.
This is the worst place I have ever gotten my hair done. I went in for blonde they turned my hair purple. Today I went in for color, they died my hair in patches the roots don’t blend my hair, it is died terrible. I actually cried because of how terrible this experience was. The process took 7 hours!
I thought I was being over sensitive so I went to a salon and the person actually showed me how messed up of a color job it was.
Remember they are students in training.
The students do not have licenses to cut hair.
Keep in mind all these mishaps happens while under teacher supervision.
What makes this so upsetting to me is the staff actually had the audacity to tell me it looked good, a $ 90.00 nightmare.

Not one of my requests were met and I ended up spending over a hundred dollars on crappy hair. Made me pay for them to fix it.
Asked for:
Blue undertones, got coppery ORANGE hair
Straight bangs, got UNEVEN fringe
Customer Service Sucks
Don’t care at all about making you look or feel good.

After a long consultation with Denise (the instructor) about whether my hair could go ash dark blonde, they told me it would lighten and everything would work out. My ONLY request was to eliminate the red tones in my hair, because I wanted a cool ash undertone. I told them to use at least 3 vials of blue because my hair needs at least that much. My hair did not lighten well and had a horrible orange tone.
I left the salon after the stylist had been working on me for 8 hours. When I noticed that my bangs were noticeably uneven, I came back right away to ask for a trim.
Alfred (Sr. Instructor) did a bit of a trim but was rushing to finish with me, so he did not get it straight. As a cop out he said the same thing that Denise did,
«Your hair only ‘seems’ uneven because it hasn’t settled yet. Come back if it seems like it isn’t working and we’ll fix it for you»
I came back and they made me pay for the trim anyway!
Denise is an instructor with no sense of customer service. Stay far away from this salon and save yourself the time and money.

Alexis C. was perfect ! she did the color, deep conditioner with massage, blow dry and flat iron on my thick long hair ! a 4 hour in her hands is fabulous ! congratulations to Alexis ! see you next month

Extremely disappointed in my time at the Paul Mitchell School. I requested a basic trim (one inch off only the bottom of my hair), and at EVERY step, my stylist — under the supervision of her teacher — managed to make major mistakes that mean I will have to get another haircut. When washing my hair, she actually pulled my hair out at the roots. When cutting my hair, she not only could not follow the line of my hair (shorter in the back, longer in the front), but took off more than double what I requested (at least 2.5 inches are gone). As if that weren’t enough, she also cut my hair unevenly in the front, insisted it was fine, brought in her supervisor, who supervised her «fixing» the haircut, and left it STILL uneven, to the point that family at home could notice the flaw. Then she proceeded to «style» my hair by blowdrying it in such a way that my hair was plastered to my scalp. This despite the fact that I repeatedly told her I wanted more volume. It was all I could do not to take over the blowdryer myself.
I realize that these are students. However, given the fact that this student could not even successfully wash OR blowdry my hair, given the fact that her TEACHER could not tell that my hair had been trimmed incorrectly despite the fact that more than three non-​hairstylists could clearly observe her mistakes, either the students are incompetent or their instructors are.
Stay far away. The deal isn’t worth the fact that you’re going to have to get another, more expensive, haircut to fix whatever is left on your head.

It took me forever to just get on the phone with them, and when I finally was connected (after 2 days of trying,) they had me on hold for a long time.
Remember that the person working on your hair is a STUDENT. I once got their groupon deal for highlights and when she was washing my hair, she put all the hair in my face, causing my eyes to sting like crazy. I thought I was going blind. Then again, I can’t get that upset because they are students.
I guess I would come here again to do something simple.

I’ve always preferred Paul Mitchell hair stylists to others. Every time I go is a great experience, and i leave happy. The students are great and eager to please, I always like trying out new people. I have pretty easy hair to work with, and never do anything crazy– just a simple trim and blow-​dry.
However, the last experience I had with a student named Dora was extremely unpleasant. She was unnecessarily rude, and unprofessional.
Just a warning to new comers!

Coming to this place is the worst mistake I could’ve ever made. Please people listen to me. I am literally depressed and have cancelled out on my friend’s engagement party because of this place. Jazmine cut my hair and according to her only cut 2 inches off. It’s obvious she didn’t learn measurements in school! My hair was passed my bra strap and now barely reaches passed my shoulders. She took 5 – 6 hours on my hair to leave it a complete mess. The supervisor came (at the end), checked her work and said «perfect» PFFT… Perfect? WHERE??? She also kept asking if I was mad and kept saying, I only cut two inches, I only cut two inches! Omg every time I think about this place, all types of thoughts come to mind that I can’t express on here! I’m a 1^st time user of Unilocal and don’t know if I can post a before/​after pic but I will attempt to. Take it form me guys, stick to the professionals. It’s worth the extra dollars.

Two things always happen here:
1. Great haircut, color and treatments! Don’t let the fact that they’re students scare you away. I’ve been coming here for years and they always did a great job. However…
2. Get ready to spend hours upon hours here. I make appointments and always wait at an hour just to get sat down. I don’t understand why they don’t schedule appointments around student schedules… It’s awful. I have spent five hours here on a color. The price is cheap for a reason… I don’t mind the time it takes for the students to style my hair. The part I don’t understand is they tell you to come in at 2, but then don’t see you till 3… Don’t tell me to come in at 2, if you don’t have enough people on the floor to start my hair at that time. Waiting an hour for an appointment is ridiculous! This is the reason why I won’t be coming back most likely and why I gave it 2 stars.

First of all, I would highly suggest to request a Stage 2 stylist for your services. I normally just come here for blow-dry’s because it’s pretty hard to mess that up. I must say that for the most part, a lot of these stylists are quite qualified to perform a variety of hair services. This last time that I went, my hair was left quite greasy, which was disappointing. But honestly, if you need a quick and cheap blow dry, I would definitely come here. It also helps that it’s a block from my house!

Great cut! Service is slow but well worth the wait! I had a great student who listened and executed what I wanted! I will be returning!

Love the products and students. Prices are fantastic. I schedule mainly blow outs ($ 12) hair treatments (starting at $ 11), and iron work ($ 9). Haircuts are $ 16 and color starts around $ 30. Can’t beat those prices, especially with the attention & care the students use. Everyone is interested in learning and passionate about what they do.
That being said, prices are so low because the are a SCHOOL. Remember these are STUDENTS so if you are very picky with your hair then don’t do anything drastic your first time there. They are still learning and can make mistakes, just be vocal and detailed about what you want and voice any concerns. The products they use are great and you get a free scalp massage (try the tee tree tingle shampoo and your scalp will sing).
Also, come with extra time because it usually takes 15 – 20 mins to see a stylist, no matter the appointment time or schedule.

The cuts are typically quite good. Problem is that it takes 3 hours just for a simple men’s haircut. Every time I have made an appointment, they have not gotten started until 45 – 60 minutes later. THEN, it takes another two hours! Unfortunately, this has been my experience at least 10 times in a row. Finally walked out after 45 minutes of waiting for the student to show up. Definitely not worth the wasted time.

Where else in Miami, being a female, can you get a cut AND a blow dry for under $ 20? If you have done some shopping around, like I have, you know that the average cut and blow dry for us ladies will run about $ 50, and usually, even more than that (yes men, you guys are lucky). This is definitely a steal! Located in Dadeland Boulevard across from Dadeland Mall, you park in a garage as you exit the fountain roundabout (there are «P» signs that will indicate where the garage is), and you will want to park in one of the Lot D spots, since those are the ones closest to the salon. You then bring your parking ticket and the salon will fully validate your parking, meaning it’s complimentary. Pretty awesome.
My appointment was set for Saturday. The school/​salon is large, very trendy, with modern techno music, an industrial feel, and lots of hairstylists with funky-​colored hair. If you’re afraid of multi-​colored rainbow hair, tattoos and piercings, then this is not the place for you. I do want to warn you to not have concrete plans for the day, as you will be here a while (I waited about 30 minutes just for my stylist to become available and yes, I did have an appointment). You will see all kinds of people coming in – young, middle-​aged, and even someone that may have been a model (unless she was auditioning for the Black Swan, as that was the type of dramatic makeup she had on her eyes). The students also range in age, though I’d say most are between 25 and 35. Another thing I do want to warn you about is to ask all the questions you need to ask when you make your appointment over the phone, because getting through on the phone is quite a mission (if you called to make an appointment, you may have experienced this).
I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical of trusting the students. Yes, I will admit to having been a hair snob in my younger days, when I actually cared a lot about my appearance. I would not have been caught dead in a beauty school being a guinea pig, and instead, would have happily paid hundreds to a more experienced stylist in an exclusive area of Miami. Now that I’m older and more mature, not obsessed with appearance, as well as more budget-​conscious, I figured that the worst that could happen would be that my hair would end up a couple of inches shorter, which would only translate to healthier-​looking hair by doing away with the split ends. So, I took my chance. Marcy was my stylist. She completed a small interview questionnaire, which all the students complete, evaluating the client’s hair, its texture, and what the client is hoping to achieve from their session. She noticed my very fine hair and guessed that I wanted more volume. I asked for layers to be cut, and she stopped me dead in my tracks telling me that these just weigh hair down and make it look thinner. We came to a solution by just adding layers in the front, while keeping my side swept bangs. I was debating whether to add some highlights to my bangs, only because I was a bit afraid of the end result, despite the fact that she was 2 weeks away from graduation. I assume this is why there was no instructor supervising her, though they may supervise the less-​experienced students.
Marcy took me to the back to wash my hair prior to the cut and gave me a nice scalp and pressure point head massage. I think I suddenly stopped talking, feeling all relaxed… aaahhh… Then, she brought me back to the chair and started cutting. She took about 2.5 inches and said we could take off more if my hair looked unhealthy after the blow dry. As she dried my hair, she said she was surprised by how much of a difference a professional blow dry makes on my hair and how much thicker it looked. She added some curling at the tips with the round brush, to make it look bouncier and fuller, and then added some gloss drops. I thought it looked great, as good as any pricier blow dry I have gotten in the past, and regretted not trying the highlights on my fringe, though there’s always a next time. All in all, it took about 2 hours, but next time I think I may try the streaks. While you can pay for the hair services via credit card, tips are cash only, so do remember to bring cash if you want to tip your stylist. All in all, a great deal! With these prices, you can afford to pamper yourself at least once a month without going broke.

I love this place! I have met great people and stylists!!! Bruce has been my all time favorite. He is very professional, honest and takes care of my hair… He’s knowledgable Si they are definitely teaching him well!!! His floor teacher/​supervisor Alfred has been pleasant, professional and courteous at all times both with the client and the student… The next stylist is Gisela she is fabulous but unfortunately her floor teacher, Lily, is rude and belittles her clients by belittling the student right in front of u!!! Way to go!!! Besides her rudeness and her think «I know it all attitude» Gisela is very professional and does a fantastic job… Of course she was with Alfred first! Four stars Bc of the phase 2 floor teacher LILY…
My suggestion: see Bruce… Gisela left this week!

Great deal to get a quality cut and style. The students are very nice and the Pros really make sure the students do a great job.
The only problem is getting an appointment, the web really doesn’t work and calling is very frustrating.
Best advice is once you get an appointment, make sure you set up your next appointment before you leave.
Don’t forget to take some products home with you, they really work and make you look stylish

Im a student and a fan. The school gives students the opportunity to preform services on guest and provide an amazing experience. Its a win win situation. Students get the experience and guest are provided with salon quality work at a discounted price.

I get the itch to change my hair color every couple of months, but this itch came in between paychecks, so I started trolling Groupon for a good deal and didn’t really find anything that included the highlights that I wanted. Once I stumbled upon this place, I purchased the Groupon for a color package with a Phase Two stylist, which included Haircut and blowdry, Dimensional color and Awapuhi Keratriplex super deep-​conditioning treatment (no idea what that is but it sounds good). The Groupon was priced at only $ 61 and the regular cost of this package is only $ 123. So yes, sign me up, use me as a guinea pig.
I have naturally dark hair, so as far as coloring goes, I’m never particularly worried because I can always revert back to my natural color. Still, I did my research and spent some time reading reviews I found on Google from the old location and name (Hi-​Tech the School of Cosmetology) and was comfortable enough to try it.
Once I got there, I found the location extremely clean and professional. It’s right in Downtown Dadeland across the street from Pasion del Cielo. Everything is brand spanking new. I had an appointment, didn’t even wait two minutes before Andrea came to speak with me. We discussed what I wanted to do and then her instructor Denise came over to make some recommendations. Everyone I came in contact with were really sweet and enthusiastic about what they were doing, This was comforting.
Happy to say everything went well. While I was there, I never had a doubt it would. Andrea was confident and knew what she was doing. All things considered, some of the kids are pretty young, but they’re currently studying this stuff so it’s fresh in their mind and they are always supervised by an instructor. If you’re worry is that something may go wrong, be aware that every salon carries the a fairly similar amount of risk. Actually, I was more comfortable because I knew they were doing exactly what I asked for instead of taking creative matters in to their own hands like some hair stylists tend to do. I was there from 2:30 to 5:45, which wasn’t too bad considering I’ve spent up to 6 hours at hair salons in the past, but definitely go with time. The day students and the night students switch shifts from 5:00 — 6:00pm, so be aware of that when making an appointment.
Once I got home and showed my friends and family, I was even told this was the best color job I had ever gotten so I’m pretty happy! I’ll be making an appointment a month from now to get my highlights one shade lighter and was informed that all coloring on Thursdays is 25% off!
