The Academy of Self Defense teaches the art known as T.A.I. — this acronym stands for Transitional Actions /Arts Incorporated. It is a combination of mixed martial arts encompassing the best parts of many different styles. We teach the arts of Kenpo, Kung Fu, Jujitsu, Newaza, Boxing, Escrima as well as additional techniques and movements from Judo, Thai Kickboxing and Chin Na. The system is designed as an integrated system of self defense that promotes a strong foundation and develops strength, coordination, speed, power and agility. Those attributes, coupled with strong, street and ring tested techniques and fighting skills make for a well-rounded, superior fighter that can defend his /herself in any situation.

The art of TAI was created in the late ’60’s by Grandmaster Ray Snider and the late Grandmaster David German. Both men had been practicing martial arts for many years and obtained masters certifications in multiple disciplines. Their skills came together at Ed Parker’s Kenpo studio in Pasadena, California. The vision was to integrate the best aspects of each of the different martial arts as well as draw on the various drills, exercises and skill sets to develop the best fighters around. Grandmaster Snider elected to remain local and operated studios in Whittier, CA and two locations in Cypress, CA. Grandmaster German, however, went on to open many martial arts studios as well as travel the States offering classes and seminars in the art of TAI.
