Flurries Shaved Snow Bar

Well, another casualty to the slow business here in Cypress. Flurries will be closed Nov 1. I really liked the feel of this place, it felt comfortable like a home when you’re sitting down and having one of their desserts here. We’ve had a few but our favorite here was the banana foster. It tasted just liked it, maybe less the alcohol.
What was a little confusing was the prices. Some flavors dictated higher prices while some were not. Prices are a bit expensive here, usually about $ 4.50-$ 5.50. So for a dessert, even though they do donate money for a cause, it’s still on the pricey side. The ice here, is not the finest but it’s not the worst either.
Heck you can go to Wendy’s in the same plaza and get a frosty for a buck!
The 15% Unilocal check in does help but it’s only on weekdays.
Nevertheless, the flavor profiles here are pretty darn good.
Will miss you Flurries!

My first time at Flurries was great! The snow is delicious and there are just so many flavors that it is incredible that they can make so many different combinations with just shaved ice. It is truly disappointing that Flurries will be closing at the end of the month… so make it out before they close!

Flurries has a shaved ice style dessert that is unlike any other place that I have been to. It is hard to describe in words the experience, but try to imagine eating delicately hand laid snow powder that has the texture of truffles and clouds. You really have to try it for yourself to understand what all these reviews are talking about. My absolute favorite is their classic plain style with condensed milk only.
With this said… I am very sad to report that Flurries will be closing permanently due to unsustainable slow business. According to the sign posted on the window, their last day of business will be Saturday, 11÷01÷14. If anyone has been curious, please make a visit just to experience what I had. It was a blessing in more ways than one.

It was a huge disappointment.
We got the holo holo with strawberry snow instead of original snow, as recommended by our server. Big mistake. Not just our order, but also driving 40 miles to try the place.
The snow tasted horribly, like they mixed some jello mix into the base and tried to pass it off as strawberry snow. The top was overloaded with nasty whipped cream. It was practically half of the dessert.
The snow texture was icey and not milky smooth, the way snow should be. Almost like they put it through a cheap shaved ice machine that I have at home.
There were few toppings. We didnt even try to dig for them inside the «snow.»
My friend and I literally took 2 bites and had to stop. Biggest waste of $ 5 ever.
Service was nice, but terrible product. Dont even understand how they have such high reviews.

The first time I came here was about a year ago and I was disappointed, but I decided to give it another try since I was in the area. Sadly, I was disappointed once again.
I tried the green tea strawberry, which was listed under their seasonal specials. I found the shaved snow to be too icy for my liking compared to other places I’ve been to, and the green tea flavor wasn’t prominent enough. I did like the fresh strawberries though, which went well with the green tea.
That being said, customer service was excellent, and they do have a lot of options to choose from. I might be back if I’m close by and craving something cold, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here.

I came here with some friends who love Taiwanese snow, and we were all disappointed. The staff is nice and the décor is cute, but the snow is borderline terrible. My friend got some chocolate one with chocolate syrup and mochi (the mochi, she said, was hard and not from the cold), took two bites and could not eat the rest. It tasted very artificial and cloying. I got the Triple Berry Pie, which was decent. When I tasted the original snow ice by itself, it wasn’t very good, but the syrup, fruit, and cookie pieces hid the flavor enough so that I was able to eat most of it. Another friend got the Creamsicle, which tasted a bit like plastic, and another got the Cookies and Cream. All in all, the flavored ice was definitely not on par with places such as Fluff Ice and Class 302. What a bummer. If you check in on Unilocal,you do get 15% off and the size small is definitely large enough to share.
I love the concept behind it, but the ice just does not taste good. I think maybe most of the people leaving five-​star reviews have never had Taiwanese snow anywhere else before. We ended up throwing away quite a bit of our order. :(

Flurries is a prime example of what service and quality are all about. Over the past couple of years Flurries has established itself as our #1 go to for a tasty dessert. The snow is light, flavorful and the options are practically endless. The consistency never wavers from visit to visit and the flavors are far and away better than other snow places we have tried. Choose one of their many tasty selections or build one of your own, they even have waffles now available to customize as well.
From the moment you walk in the door at Flurries you are treated like royalty. The workers are always friendly and very helpful when it comes to explaining the process, ingredients and making suggestions on which flavors to try. As we continue to come here I have managed to check off a good portion of the menu options and each has been very good in its own way. To this point I have tried the Cookie Monster (my favorite overall), Cookie & Cream, Strawberry Dream, Rainbow Sherbert, Banana’s Foster, Apple Pie, Triple Berry Pie, Chocolate Mint & Oreo Cheesecake. Each snow is shaved on site and comes out light and ribbony and is topped with sauces and other toppings that really bring out the flavors.
The inside of the Flurries is also decorated nicely with plenty of tables to accommodate their guests. The place does get quite busy at times but we have always managed to find a table and the snow is brought out to you. 100% of the stores profits are given to various causes around the world which is very cool and can be viewed on the website. This is something I have not seen elsewhere and really gives you a good feeling to know that your purchase will go on to help others in a time of crisis or despair. The tables are cleaned almost immediately after each guests and the place is almost always immaculate and never suffers from sticky tables or floors like other places we have been to. The prices are also very good and they offer a stamp card program as well so be sure to pick one up. They have a small retail shelf with t-​shirts also available for purchase if you are so inclined.
This place is a diamond in the area and never fails to deliver. We have never had issues, the staff is top notch and the quality of the product for the price is hard to beat. Other business could really learn a thing or two from the business concept they have in place. We will be returning for many visits to come. Check them out and see for yourself, you will not be disappointed.

Great dessert, greater cause.
This is not your typical shaved ice. It’s much more dense and higher quality than any shaved ice I’ve ever had. There are many different flavors of ice and lots of fresh toppings to go with them. On their menu, they have so many combinations that it is so difficult to choose, but everything that I have had has been excellent. It’s the great taste of dessert, but so much lighter. Also, the staff is very friendly and there is a check in deal for 15% off.
Flurries donates all of their profit to those in need, both around the world and close to home. For example, some of their profit goes to tsunami victims in Japan, but some profit also feeds homeless people in Long Beach. It’s so awesome knowing that the money from my purchase it going to some great causes. Great dessert, great people, this is simply a great dessert spot, check it out!

Their desserts aren’t as rich and heavy, like at some places. Probably not as sweet as the competition as well. But, that’s where I can’t say it’s anything beyond OK. I’m not anywhere close to being a shaved snow expert, but I like my desserts with real flavor, regardless of what’s in them. When it’s times to splurge, I go all out. When you have to sacrifice some of the taste, then that’s where you lose me. The time and price? Doesn’t matter. Since, we all fork over the dough and wait, if we think it’s worth it.
HALO HALO
After reading Steve S.‘s review (the King of Buena Park), I thought I was in for a real treat. Original milk snow, creamy coconut sauce, tropical halo-​halo mix of jackfruit, palm seeds, melon infused coconut gel blocks, topped with purple ube whipped cream. Honestly, it didn’t do much for me. It just tasted average, slightly more or less. Sorry Steve, even I have to sometimes disagree with the great ones.
COOKIE MONSTER
Definitely, the better of the two that we ordered. Chocolate snow with oreo cookies bites, drizzled with chocolate sauce, dusted with powdered sugar, and topped with original whip. Tasty, but still light and not overbearing. The desserts here don’t seem to pack that strong of a punch.
Like I said, I love the concept. Creativity, Comfort, Care, & Community. Just recently, the store displayed art from students at Cypress High School and is helping raise funds for The GETUP8 Foundation. All noteworthy causes, but I’m simply not a fan of their desserts.

This is the most absolute best 10 000% place to get your dessert sweet tooth cravings from. The best tasting shaved snow recipes. The most wonderful customer service i have experienced in a long time. The guy who took our order over heard me mention that if we came during the week we could a discount by checking in. I had given him the money already and he had closed the register. He actually OPENED the register back up did the math and gave me the discount on the weekend and after had the full payment for our two shaved ice!!! I couldnt believe it. That has never ever happened to me before and i highly doubt it will ever happen again.
I will continue to come here for the amazing tasting shaved snow with elaborate recipes that mesh nicely, the outstanding service, and because this is my new go to place from here on out!

It’s funny because my mouth says «it’s light», but my belly says «it’s heavy». Whatever it is, it’s good. I shared the Halo Halo and Rainbow Sherbet. They were both exactly as I imagined. In fact the Rainbow Sherbet was bit more tart than I expected, however it was better that way. With trying the Halo Halo and Rainbow Sherbet, I felt that it was a good picture of how well rounded the menu COULD be, however the menu isn’t. I felt there were a lot of creamy treats and not so many tart-​ish choices. The menu looked full, however I just didn’t feel the variety. Next time, I’m try something else like the Orange Creamcile. Mmmmm, sounds so good!

I forgot to use my Unilocal check in offer. I hate when that happens! But honestly I don’t mind because this business donates ALL profits to special causes such as funding schools and aiding disaster relief and more in the US, around the world, and locally! I wish I could eat here all the time! I’d much rather give my money to this place instead of the usual frozen dessert franchisees…
I am never in this area but happened to be for a HS graduation. I found this place on Unilocal after the celebratory dinner I attended was over. I am so glad I did. I tried the Green Tea Tiramisu and it was great. I wish I could have tried more flavor combinations, but I’ll be back.

According to Wikipedia «Halo-​halo (Tagalog language for „Hodge-​Podge“) is a popular Filipino dessert with mixtures of shaved ice and evaporated milk to which are added various boiled sweet beans, jello and fruits, and served in a tall glass or bowl»
I grew up with this dessert. Wikipedia needs to redefine their description because Flurries makes a better version of this Classic Filipino dessert.
Here’s the rundown:
Halo halo «Original milk snow, creamy coconut sauce, tropical halo halo mix of Jack fruit, palm seed, melon infused coconut gel blocks. Topped with purple ube whipped cream» OMG my favorite here. Maybe the best halo halo I’ve had too, it certainly is in the running. The milk snow is so smooth, not hard & icy (like a real halo halo). The halo halo mix is the bomb, chunks of goodness with each bite. And the topper, that ube whipped cream is delicious. I’ve eaten my fair share of halo halo, this is a great representation of one. Must try for sure.
Side story: the first time I came, I ordered the Halo Halo (HH) and French Toast w/​Bacon (FTB). My wife and I would usually go half way on the dessert we were eating and switch. She started on the HH. It was so good, she gave me two spoonful so I would know how good it was. That was all I was tasting that night. The switch was cancelled, voided, nullified that night. Lmao. I had to go the next day and get a HH for myself. I did not share either, it’s that good. Lmao.
Salted Mocha «Coffee snow. Sweet and salty chocolate pretzel. Drizzled with coffee and vanilla sauce, finished with sea salt crystals» The coffee flavor was pronounced. What makes this work for me was the pretzel. Sweet & salty is the perfect description for it. I love salty flavor in my dessert, it brings out the other flavors in the dish. Another delicious mix of flavors, yum!
French Toast with Bacon «Original milk snow, maple syrup, pound cake, smokey bacon, bacon sauce and powdered sugar» If you love bacon (like me), this is the one to get. The cup is full of crispy, yes crispy bacon. The pound cake holds up (not soggy) in this dessert. Delicious.
Rainbow Sherbet «Tangy orange mango snow with layers of fresh pineapple and orange tidbit and ribbons of red raspberry purée finished with lime zest» I love sherbets. The orange mango flavor is so good. The fruit tidbits are refreshing. Capping it with raspberry purée is not only visually pleasing but adds that contrasting flavor to this dessert. Two thumbs up!
Service was outstanding each time I was there.

I’m so impressed with the bacon french toast shave ice. The savory n sweet blend so well… definitely a nice treat for the day.
Overall, I just love supporting this shop since the entire profit goes to charity..

Small little place in the same plaza as the Loft Hawaiian food and Wendy’s. There’s not many parking spots so hope you’re lucky! Walked in and there’s plenty of tables. Huge menu board so there’s something for everyone. You can create your own too if you want!
What we got:
Strawberry Dream ($ 4): strawberry snow with marshmallows and a vanilla sauce. Marshmallows were stale and got hard pretty quick. The vanilla sauce mixed with the strawberry snow was good though.
Rainbow Sherbert ($ 4.75): orange-​mango snow with pineapple, orange pieces, and raspberry purée. It didn’t really taste like rainbow sherbert in my opinion. The strawberry snow as much better!

It took awhile. There seemed to be only one guy running the place at the time. He took down what we wanted and then made it right away. There were other people coming in too, but he seemed to handle it pretty well. After you order, grab a seat and he will bring it over to you.

The first time I came here I tried the FRENCH TOAST WITH BACON SNOW, which is original milk snow topped with maple syrup, pound cake, savory smoked bacon pieces and rich bacon sauce. It’s finished with powdered sugar. It was just okay. The French Toast pieces tasted a little stale & the snow wasn’t very sweet. However, what I’ve learned since my first visit is that their desserts are less sweet than most other places, which is actually intentional due to the fact that they strive to provide lower caloric options for their customers.
I’ve also tried the STRAWBERRY DREAM, which is strawberry flavored snow with marshmallows mixed throughout & topped with condensed milk. Again, this one is not too sweet either. Most of their desserts look sweeter than they really are. If you are looking for something really sweet, then you might not be satisfied with the desserts they offer here, but to me it’s just right. Plus, knowing that I’m consuming less calories, makes the experience even better! Next time, I’ll order this one with less marshmallows.

Best shaved snow place I have been to date. Well-​priced for its quality. Thrives on its low calorie dessert indulging in sweet favorites.
The Halo Halo Snow is quite special – something more ideal of a snow place. I had the Mocha Almond snow which was so delicious, though it was on the heavier side and felt more like an ice cream. They have a lot of creative and seasonal flavors going on here, as well as make-​it-​you-​own.
I would definitely love to come back here if I find myself in the area. The flavors are wonderful and who doesn’t like to indulge (and not feel so guilty about it) every once in a while?!

This is, hands down, the best shaved snow spot I’ve been to EVER! I know that’s sets expectations high, but they really are the best.
For all the Pinoys out there, they have halo-​halo snow here with most of the fixin’s! They have 8 varieties of snow (which is essentially shave ice frozen with the flavor for extra richness and flavor), and endless combinations of toppings and sauces. They have a great list of specialty snow «dishes» to choose from though.
After my first time here a few months ago, the only place I’ve found that comes close is Class 302. I have not tried or found any spots closer to DTLA, but I will continue my search. Until then, Flurries is my spot!

Nom nom nom. I’ve been here several times and I always come back because of their superb service and great flavors. It’s also very cooling on a hot day.
They are located in a small lot next to FedEx and The Loft and right behind Wendy’s. Parking always seemed to be enough but I can’t say that for weekends or Fridays. The interior is a good size and I never have trouble finding seating here. There’s a bathroom located in the back and they also sell some interesting merchandise.
Their menu is a bit extensive and sometimes, it’s hard to choose what to get. I always try to get something new every time I come. I’ve had the mocha almond, halo-​halo, and the green tea strawberry. I’ve also had one of their seasonal specials but I can’t recall the name of it — it was tropical. I actually don’t recommend getting that.
The mocha almond was great! Yum! The snow was super smooth and there was the mocha flavour all around. I really liked how they not only put almonds and other toppings on the top, but in the middle as well. This flavor might come off as a little sweet, but it’s still amazing! The halo-​halo was pretty good. It was topped with ube whip cream and had different goodies all around — by goodies I mean jellies, sugar palms, etc. The snow was also good in consistency. The only thing that I didn’t like about it was that the whip was a little light in flavor and it left a starchy after taste in my mouth. The green tea strawberry was good since there was a good green tea flavor going on. The fresh strawberries overpowered it a little bit, but it was no problem for me.
Overall, ⁵⁄₅! Definitely will be back!
