El Zarape

Found this place on Unilocal,after reading a few reviews I wanted to give it a try. The food was good, service was great, and the place was supper clean to top it off. Next time I’m in the area I will be back for sure.

The best burrito in town! I had shrimp wet burrito, my wife had enchilada con taco. Great food! Service is good!

Whatever you do… don’t eat here… I don’t need you taking up one of their tables. My family and I have been eating here since 2009 and it’s where I go for Mexican food. It’s also where I take guests to impress them with GREAT MEXICAN FOOD in my area. The owners and staff are super friendly. You can taste the quality in their food, it’s as good as homemade (if you could cook a perfect chile relleno). Order the El Zarape (chile relleno, cheese enchilada, taco, rice, & beans), AWESOME! The food is expensive, but so is my wife.

Ordered the tres Padres margarita: hand-​shaken, perfect blend of tequila, liquor, and juices= Yum
Chile rellenos was simple, flavorful, red sauce was a little runny though.
And chicken mole enchiladas with rice & beans= friggin tasty as hell!

The best margaritas in town! Mango is the absolute!
Place is a little tight and the avocado paste they call guacamole can definitely need adjusting. Taco Wednesday is a great deal! I would give my visit a 3.5 stars.

Updated because finally got to try the place. It’s really pretty great, I love the food, reminds me a bit of some of the Tex Mex I’m missing, but the only complaint I’ll have with the place is it’s cramped and loud. Service is good. Food’s great. Just too small and too loud generally.

The Mexican Food here is no joke!!! At night may have to wait a bit depending on the day because it isn’t the biggest place but the food is ridiculously good. I want to find out what they put in their salsa because its seriously addicting, like I get full off of the chips before I even get my plate almost every time. The Carne Asada is my personal favorite but you can’t go wrong with the enchiladas rojas either. Easily the best Mexican Food I’ve had around here

I had a pleasant experience here, as did my family. Took them a while to get our party of 7 seated with a reservation. The effort was there, but the place is small. It is definitely a «locals» hangout, and not meant to hold larger parties. Most of the parties that night were two to four people.
All the workers were very pleasant, and service was just fine.
Although my Chili Colorado was good– tender, tasty meat, it was little too heavy on the refried beans inside for my liking. I think for the price, I would have liked a little more variety. Everyone in my party liked their food, but no one raved about it.
It is definitely worth a try especially if you have a small party and are looking for a casual place that serves good food.

Although the food is good, review the check carefully. They tend to make mistakes and overcharge. Compare check price to menu price AND check the arithmetic on the bill.

Never been to this establishment before but my friends wanted to go out for Cinco de Mayo and so we ended up here! This place was poppin! so many people standing outside waiting to get in. Although the place was small and kind of cramped on the inside, the great food made up for it. It’s authentic Mexican, not that El Torito bs. The drinks are big, the food is plentiful but the wait staff was a bit on the inattentive side (kept asking for refills and small condiments but they kept on forgetting to bring it/​had to ask multiple times).
Would I come back? sure! (just not during cinco de mayo). I would recommend the big sal! it was a fat, maybe 6 inch diameter burrito! definitely can take it home for breakfast and lunch for the next day!

I came based on the reviews. The service here is good, very friendly. I think that’s why it gets a 4 star rating. For me, not the best Mexican food. It was all right, watered down, so to speak. As my dad used to say, it’s a gringo restaurant.

Maaaaannnnnn… This place is the best. fantastic food and one helluva strong margarita… You can NOT possibly go wrong eating here. I always get the carne asada tampiqueña and it’s always bomb AF. Their service is good and the family is always checking tables. Man they put in work. I make it a habit to come here every few months. You should too :)

When I arrived I received a friendly greeting and immediately and sat. My waiter was friendly and helpful when I asked him about items on the menu that are fast as I had to get back to work quickly. I had a combo plate with a crispy taco, cheese enchilada, rice and beans. Before my meal arrived they brought my drink, chips and salsa. Shortly thereafter my meal came and it was all delicious ! I am definitely coming back soon! This was my first of what I hope will be many lunches and I was beyond happy! Oh it was also under $ 10.00 :)

Had the mole enchiladas. A-​mazing. Service is really good. The owner was super nice and talked to us while we where waiting. Super crowded, but didn’t have to wait too long for food.
The only thing was not a lot of seating. Of course they can’t do anything about that, but the tables are very close. Might as well share with the table next to me.

Wonderful service. Perfect carne Asada as usual. And menudo that brings back so many good memories of my childhood, it makes me tear up. I’m still in love with this place.

I came here on weekday afternoon and luckily I came just in time to beat the crowds. This restaurant is in a big complex towards the end. It’s pretty tightly packed there’s not much wiggle room, but the food is decent.
The service was really good. Our waiter came by quite often to check up on us, and see if there was anything he could do for us.
Chips and salsa (5 out of 5)
These were incredibly flavorful and spicy. I loved it. Our waiter came back a few times to give us refills as well.
Guacamole (3 out of 5)
This was just okay. The guacamole was way too smooth for my liking, it lacked texture. The flavor was decent though
El Zarape Enchilada (4 out of 5)
This was really good aside from how cheesy it was. It was flavored well and it was incredibly filling.
Mole Enchildas (3 out of 5)
My friend ordered this and she found it to be more on the bitter side. She said that it looked alot better than it tasted.
Overall, it was a decent experience.

Love this place! I crave their salsa. It’s made fresh daily and it is so incredible, I could drink it. Crispy chicken tacos are my favorite. PS. Wednesday nights are $ 1 taco nights with purchase of a drink! Their rice is yummy, too. Family owned (nicest family ever, too!) and makes you feel like you are getting an authentic, home-​cooked meal. LOVE EL ZARAPE!

Came here for breakfast today, and I was pleasantly surprised.
I liked the salsa and chips that came out in the beginning.
I had the quesadilla with egg, bacon, potatoes and cheese. it was pretty tasty.
Service was pretty friendly as well.
The place was pretty packed for a sunday morning, so it must be good, right?

8 times out of 10 when I go to gringo Mexican spots, I leave disappointed.
In this case I got some food poisoning and when you get sick, that’s rights for a One star automatically. If I wasn’t sick, I would have given them a 2!
So the ex Italian wanted a place with mole. So I started Unilocaling places around where we were staying and served mole. This was the only place in the vicinity. So we drive over for dinner. This place gets packed. We stood out like sore thumbs around all these über oldschool white folks LOL. When I see this, I know not to have high expectations of the food, if you know what I mean ;) ;) So service here is short staffed and overworked. Took forever for the server to come back after we put in drink orders. I ordered a strawberry margarita, which was refreshing but it have used more alchy.
We started with guacamole, chips and salsa. The guacamole was passable. Could have been seasoned more. The chips were fresh and hot and needed a little salt as well. This whole place is
. He ordered the mole enchiladas and I ordered a two item combo which came with cheese enchilada and a ground beef taco. Of course you get the rice and beans on the side and I did an a la carte beef enchilada as well. The Italian loved his mole enchiladas, he said it satisfied his craving for mole. I tasted it and I never had mole before and I did not like this. Must be an acquired taste. My cheese enchilada was nice and cheesy. The sauce was passable. It wasn’t an outstanding rich sauce but it also didn’t taste canned either. The beef for both the taco and enchiladas were kinda mushy. Didn’t have the distinct firm taste of ground beef. Mid meal I started getting a slight stomach ache and all I wanted to do is get out of there.
So took forever to get them to give us the check and even worse to get the checked signed. It was so bad the Italian almost wanted to go back there and say WTF is taking so long. He thought they were doin some shady shit with his credit card LOL. Totally killed the mood. So we were done and just wanted to GTFO. I’m starting to think, the only places good to eat in Cypress is Café Hiro because I’m
, first it was the bigoted owner at Dominic’s and now this place UGH. You don’t have to ask me if I’m going to repeat. No ma’am Pam!

The food here was excellent. Had the zarape enchilada and it was flavorful and filling. Rice and beans tasted fresh and not like most places where they tasted like they’ve been microwaved.
Reason for the 3 stars is as soon as we got here: 1. We weren’t greeted. 2. We weren’t asked how our food tasted. 3. We weren’t asked for refills. 4. We had to ask for the check after sitting for 5 –10 min. Those are BIG no nos at a restaurant for not being extremely busy. Felt like we were neglected. Please make sure you guys fix that. Customers should never feel that way.
