William Melzer, OD

I was hessitant to go here due to a few bad reviews, but I was also too lazy to go anywhere else this place is right next to my job. My lazyness paid off because this place treated me great! They accepted my insurance, the Dr. Was very through and explained everything very well. The staff was great at helping me pick out frames they even did a custom order for me, not only that it only took a few days to have my glasses ready. I’m definitely coming back every year.

I have been going to Dr. Melzer for years for my yearly eye exam and glasses. I have also seen him for migraine of the eye and floaters. I trust this doctor with my life. He is experienced and really knowledgeable. He also charges me very little when my visit falls outside of my VSP coverage. My only gripes are their limited choice of frames and their location. I live in Westwood and Dr. Melzer is in culver city. That is a 20 – 30 minute drive depending on traffic.

I’ve had a great experience with Dr. Melzer’s office. He and his staff are very pleasant and helpful. My eye exam was thorough and helpful. I was having some discomfort in one of my eyes and Dr. Melzer assured me it was most likely just sinus pressure and that a few days of Sudafed would clear everything up. He was dead on. He also recommended daily contacts, since I tend to only wear them on weekends. So far they have been a great fit and saved me money over monthlies.
On top of all that, my contact order came in a few days behind schedule. I was leaving town the next day for vacation and a wedding. Dr. Melzer gave me another five days of trial contacts to hold me over. I can’t express how impressed and appreciative I was.

Service was quick and both Dr. Melzer and his receptionist were extremely helpful when I was picking out my glasses. I have VSP insurance which they took and made it extremely easy for me to figure out which glasses were in my budget.
The turn around time on my glasses was sensational! It only took 2 days for them to come in and his receptionist called me immediately to let me know they had arrived.

While I think Dr Melzer is a decent doctor worthy of 3.5 stars, the combination of his fluctuating staff’s emotions and the fact that he LOST my prescription is why I can’t give him anything more than 2 stars.
I went in for a normal visit to Dr Melzer based on a friend’s raving review for him. It’s true, his office has free parking out front and the insides are very nice and open. And the doctor himself is a very nice, sweet man, whom seems to be quite practiced in his work if not a little dated. He did the exam, dodging using any technology that I’ve seen at any of my past eye doctors, which at first I thought was pretty great. Looking back, I realize that maybe he wasn’t able to correctly assess my vision because he was using the older ways of checking himself. At any rate, I left the place maybe 20 minutes later with a pair of contacts to try and a pretty adequate smile on the speediness of the appointment.
The cheerful childish delights of my vision exam end there. About a week later I called in and said that the contacts didn’t feel right and my vision seemed really blurry. He said it might be because my right eye was .25 stronger and that might help. Reluctantly (and I should emphasis that) he gave me new trial contacts for the upgraded amount and switched out all the boxes I had purchased (but not opened). When I arrived to pick-​up the new contacts, the receptionist was quite snooty with me, and she seemed reluctant to even work with me even though the place was empty, but after the doctor was done with his other patient he came over to help me.
And then the fun really began, they stared searching through drawers looking for a HAND-​WRITTEN NOTE of my last visit. They had lost it and it took them 30 minutes to find a copy that they kept on file, and photo-​copy. Let me make this clear, they do NOT file anything electronically at this office and they lose information in a swarm of papers and drawers. So minus the mix-​ups, the bad diagnosis, the off-​putting receptionist, and the fact that I had to return 3 times to get this corrected, it was losing my file that really put my review down to 2-​stars.
Would not recommend to a friend.

We recently relocated from the East Coast and needed to find an optometrist. After doing considerable research, I went to see Dr. Melzer based on his education and experience. All the online comments were very positive, so I thought I was in good hands. I was not dissappointed. I have never had as thorough an eye exam in my life. Dr. Melzer explained everything he was doing and what the results were. I have very poor eyesight, and he was on the money with his diagnosis. I got new contacts and glasses. His staff knew their stuff when it came to frames and styling. And they couldn’t have been nicer. Since my first visit, I have returned for a check up and have brought my college age son for his exam as well. Five stars is not enough. Dr. Melzer is the real deal.

Dr’s office is in a nice building with easy free parking. Office itself is clean. Staff is friendly. I was able to make an appt that was fast and convenient for me. Dr. was nice, patient and took the time to inform me and explain the stigmatism I have. did a VERY throughout check of both my eyes. Checked my insurance and work benefits so that I can make the best use of it. I found a perfect pair of Versaces at an unbelievable low price after my benefit and discount. and got my contacts. I am a happy camper. I CAN SEE SO MUCH BETTER! Thanks!

He is professional and affordable even without insurance. I used to go to Costco mostly to save time and money but Dr. Melzer beats Costco on every front: money, service and time. Bravo!

Service is great Could you please provide a place for your employees to eat. I did not enjoy watching the lady behind counter slowly chew her cud for 40 minuets.

Just came back from my appointment with Dr. Mezler and it was great. Sandra was lovely and Dr. Mezler did a great job explaining my situation. I was very happy with my experience.

OMG simply the best optometric experience EVER! the office décor’s sooooo colorful&pretty (seriously, the most stylish&pretty optometrist’s office i’ve ever been to&i’ve been wearing glasses since6th grade!!) &i LUV their ‘corporate-​park’ location w/​plenty of parking! the staff is super friendly&knowledgeable&they’ve the coolest&hippest selection of glasses&sunglasses&contacts PLUS the doctor really gives u the most complete eye exam u’ll ever have! i highly recommend it!

YAY! Thank you Dr. Melzer! I saved so much money and with my VSP insurance. I switched ophthalmologist and so happy I made the decision.
What Pacific Eye Care Center found impossible and more expensive — — Dr. Melzer solved in one visit. Not only will I get my new contacts tomorrow (instead of «maybe» in a week at the other place PECC) but I’ll get my new tortoise shell glasses too!

Because my health insurance does not include eye coverage, I called local optometry offices for eye exam prices (including contact fitting). Dr. Melzer’s office had the best price and most reliable reviews.
I was seen immediately at my appointment time. Dr. Melzer was friendly and thorough. He explained everything as he went. My prescription hadn’t changed, and he didn’t try to sell me on anything I didn’t need. I was on my last box of contacts, so he sent me out with a new pair to last until I get my new ones.
Highly recommended!

So I got a call from Dr. Melzer to apologize and explain what happened with my glasses. First, apparently the delay in getting the glasses really had nothing to do with them, it was the lab’s fault (and it is the insurance lab, not their lab), so they couldn’t do anything about it. And the frames I got were not discontinued, it was that particular color that was.
I wanted to update to a 4.5 star because it is obvious that Dr. Melzer cares about his patients and wants them to be satisfied, and especially since I was mistaken about one thing and the other wasn’t their fault. It still isn’t quite a 5 star though because their selection of frames wasn’t that large. But I would highly recommend going here.

Dr. Melzer’s office is great! I spent hours trying to find the right optometrist after moving to Culver City and I’m glad I found them. I was out of contacts and needed new ones ASAP so I called and was scheduled for an appointment the next day. The office was very nicely decorated and roomy, and the staff were friendly. The exam was thorough but quick and Dr. Melzer asked me a lot of good questions about my experience with contacts/​glasses. He even recommended a less expensive brand that would better suit my contact use, which I thought was very considerate. I ordered my contacts and they were in the day they had promised (I think it was 3 business days later). Great experience so far, definitely recommended!

I don’t like eye exams. I usually cry endlessly through the whole thing and need to take multiple «time outs» just to keep my eyes open. My visit with Dr. Melzer was painless. He gave me a through check up without a single tear and explained that my tears are exceptionally thin. He also recommended acuvue oasys for my very dry eyes and made me an extra receipt for my insurance company and the acuvue rebate program. He was also the first optometrist to explain the differences between different kinds of contact solutions… I wish someone had explained this to me years ago. I think he is a very good doctor. Recommended.

I lost my glasses in our recent move, and needed replacements ASAP. When I called my insurance, Melzer was covered and so I thought why not. Turned out to be a great gamble. Dr. Melzer explains everything that he is doing which I find comforting. Though they do not have a great selection of frames, the were very willing to order the ones I wanted. Turned out we did find a good frame. To have transition lenses and anti reflection coating takes five business days. They called me today to pick them up, and the glassed are perfect. Very satisfied with the entire experience.

Dr. Melzer has a very amicable personality and made me feel very comfortable. For me the first impression of the optometrist or any doctor and the feeling of comfort is very imporant. He suggested me to get a better (acuvue oasys) set of contacts which are more comfortable (less irritation) and i can wear them for longer time. More importantly he suggested a pair which is reasonable in cost and some useful tips. I will definitely go back
