The Coolhaus Shop

Yum! I had dirty mint chip ice cream between double chocolate chip cookies. They have so many unique flavors I can’t wait to try them all.

I’ve been to Coolhaus 3 – 4 times now and every time is excellent. Today I ordered the buttered french toast, and I was blown away by how good it was. Also, I got to taste the leggo my eggo and that was very good.

Cookies are good… especially the snickerdoole.
Ice cream was just okay… nothing to write home about.

Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. The cookie selection was poor. From the pictures I expected more choices, there were only 4 to choose from.
I had a banana ice cream the deserves 5 stars!
The chocolate salt flavor had these chunks in it that were not good.
The cookies were hard, when you add ice cream to cookies the cookies should be easy to eat.
I would go back for banana ice cream that’s about it.
Looks much better than it tasted.
And a side note, the employee asking us to tip him, poor taste. You get a tip because you deserve it.

This is one of those places where I wish I had ½ stars. It’s a little better than «A-​OK» and 3 stars, but I’m not a fan and it fell short of 4 stars.
I like innovative flavors, but I was here early on a Saturday and they didn’t have many. I tried a couple, that aren’t memorable, that seemed off. I finally settled on whiskey Lucky Charms. I decided to try a sandwich and thought to stay with breakfast cereal and got the Fruity Pebbles. I liked the flavor, there was a serious engineering problem. The cookie is VERY firm (and getting firmer as it chills next to the cookie), the ice cream not so much which means as you try to bite through the cookie, the ice cream smashes out the side. Service was a little inefficient.
If I’m in the neighborhood, I might try again, but it’s not a destination place. It’s probably good they’ve got trucks to take it too you.

Yes this place is perfect! The guy with glasses who helped us was awesome! I got the cookie bowl and the makers mark and banana foster ice-​cream. Definitely not a place to be missed!

First time at this small ice cream place located in the art district of Culver City. I loved their flavors! From their green tea to their Thai tea. Their flavor is very similar to the milk tea/​boba drinks that you can get from a tea/​boba joints. ;). I’d definitely go back again.

Went to grab dessert last week and ended up having a bite of ice cream. Okay maybe two bites. Okay maybe the whole cup plus two cookies plus finishing off my ice creammate’s selections. Don’t judge, I’m working on my winter coat.
Thank goodness no one was behind us in line so I could exceed the sample limit. Sooooo many flavor options and sooooo little stomach space (okay not that little). Settled on the Fried Chicken & Maple Waffle with a Cocoa Pebbles and Marbled Rye cookie. On the side, because I was a bit non-​committal about the flavor combo. But let me tell you the Chicken Maple Waffle situation with the Cocoa Pebbles cookie was the winning combo. So winning that I bought a Fried Chicken Chocolate Caramel bar to take home.
Red velvet ice cream? Chocolate Chip cookie? Ginger Molasses cookie? PB Capt Crunch cookie? Also solid bets. The only questionable flavors were the Marbled Rye cookie and ice cream. Appreciated the uniqueness, but a little too savory for this sweet tooth.
Now excuse me while I do some work on this fried chicken chocolate bar.

The Coolhaus Shop is conveniently located next to the art galleries of Culver City, as well as Father’s Office and other solid restaurants. So you can visit the galleries/​go to a gallery opening and/​or eat at a great restaurant and then walk right to Coolhaus afterwards for some delicious, nontraditionally flavored ice cream.
Coohaus always has a selection of very unique flavors, ranging from brown butter candied bacon to vegan nutella almond, to be scooped into a cup, cone, or between two cookies (many unique combinations as well– ie: peanut butter cap’n crunch), or available in pints to take home. You are allowed up to 2 samples of ice cream flavors.
On my last visit, I had the Bananas Foster, which has bananas swirled with rum, brown sugar, and butter sauce. I really enjoyed the creamy texture and combination of ingredients. My boyfriend had the red velvet cake ice cream, which was very rich and tasted just like the way an ice cream version of a good piece of red velvet cake should taste. He also got two peanut bitter cap’n crunch cookies, which tasted just okay on its own, but much better with the ice cream on it. I think for a good ice cream sandwich the cookies needed to be a little on the bland side, in terms of sweetness, or else it would have been too sugary.
The store itself is bright and fun in a quiet area.

This was my first time visiting the brick and mortar Coolhaus location. I’ve loved the truck for years but it was nice to visit the store location. They have fun unique flavors including vegan options (who knew?!). I got the dirty mint chip which has real bits of mint with chocolate chips. They have generous portions; a single serving was $ 4. Add a dollar more to get the ice cream sammie option… I don’t always finish the cookies so I opted not to get that this time.
If ice cream is not your thing, you can eat some of their delicious cookies — chocolate chip and Captain Crunch are among the options. They also had a fridge with cold pressed and other liquids as well as a freezer with pre-​packed pints.
Simple and efficient space with bench seating inside.

Parking: Street parking. 25 cents for every 15 minutes
Im glad I got there around noon to try all of the flavors! The staff is very nice and friendly. My favorite flavor was the vegan nutella toasted almond. Best part with it? Chocolate Chip Cookie Cup! Very great alternate to the waffle cone. $ 6 dollars all together but very worth it.

Great concept of making your own ice cream sandwich. They let you try the different very unique flavor’s. Would highly recommend giving it a try if you’re an ice cream officionado like myself. Not your average ice cream shop. Cookies are freshly made, and on any given day you can creat a one of a kind unique masterpiece with cookies & ice cream.
Highly recommend you give it a try.

Coolhaus, I love you. Cannot believe the array of options they have. I ordered the Thai Iced Tea ice cream in between a Chocolate Covered Belgian Liege. Quite the combo.
The girl who took my order gave great recommendations, and was very efficient with customers. When in Culver City, I will come back to try new combinations.
Also, if you have time, I recommend reading up on the owners of The Coolhaus Shop. Very intelligent people with a great story.

Wow that was one amazing ice cream sandwich!!! It was a huge scoop of chocolate ice cream sandwiched between chewy gingerbread cookies. My tastebuds and belly were singing together every time I took a bite. The key is the ingredients. They use the real stuff.
The place was so cute inside. Loved the hand sanitizer and water station.
Parking is metered. Coins only.

It’s hard for me to give a place like this good /​bad ratings due to the fact that, aside from those with the personality, sweet things just aren’t my thing. I’ll mention they have a pleasant shop accompanied with a friendly team behind the counter. The cookie dough sandwich I ordered was a little too much, because as mentioned, my system and these foods don’t mix. The sandwich was sugary, creamy and somewhat tasty. but only about 3 bites tasty. One time was good enough for me to know they have quality treats (at a staggering price). And yes, the prices are inflated. I enjoy the review that mentioned it being an Icy hustle. I’m still laughing.
The location is pretty neat if you’re the artsy type, too.

Crazy ice cream flavors! Paired with nom nom colorful cookies :) Coolhaus lives up to its expectations for sure. And I love that their downtown Culver City location is super low key with ample parking and reasonable menu prices. The girl that served us was super rad and basically let my friend and I sample the entire menu lol. And I do recommend trying all the flavors if its not busy. I was pleasantly surprised with the taste of some of the more out there mixes.
Overall, great spot. def need to come here more often!

3 ½ stars. I’ve only been here twice and so far so good!
I’ve only tried a few so I feel like there might be an ice cream here that might make me fall in love but it hasn’t happened yet. So until it does I will keep this review. I tried their cookies and sweet cream which was okay, their salted chocolate and their dark chocolate was also good.
Service is always great! When it’s not busy they don’t mind you trying all the flavors if you want to, but when it is they limit you to two times.

This was one of the few times I cared more about flavors than the ice cream quality itself.
As an undergraduate student at UC Berkeley and a graduate student at UCLA, Natasha Case (one of the Coolhaus co-​founders) infused her passion for food and architectural knowledge together («Farchitecture») and turned into a career. Ultimately she started the Coolhaus truck at 2009 (that was the beginning of the Kogi truck craze). This is the brick and mortar store in case you are too lazy to follow the truck.
Parking: Meter or residential parking — not as bad as parking at Downtown LA.
One-​story Sammie (ice cream sandwich) is $ 5 (up to two flavors) and two story Sammie is $ 9. Don’t want ice cream sandwich? Single scoop of ice cream is $ 4. Interesting enough, this place actually sells Kombucha float for $ 10.

Pistachio Black Truffle + Fried Chicken & Maple Waffle with Two Coconut Almond Chips ($ 5): Normally I can’t tolerate ice cream sandwich because ice cream itself is already sweet enough and additional layers of cookies are simply an overkill; however, this was the only ice cream sandwich that I was able to tolerate its sugar level (still sweet, but actually finish the entire sandwich!) Pistachio was very good and fried chicken & maple waffle was one of the MOST unique flavor I’ve had (flavors from fried chicken skins completely overshadowed pistachio flavor). The only downside? After I finished my sandwich, I ended up smelling like fried chicken.

If you only care about high-​end and finest ice cream quality and texture, then there are better ice cream options in LA. Nonetheless, you really can’t beat their flavors and I prefer Coolhaus’s ice cream sandwich over Cookies & Cream’s ice cream sandwich (too sweet).

I have to say that I love the idea of Coolhaus. The aesthetics, the feel, and the location are all really awesome to me.
I first experienced Coolhaus at a company event, where they had one of their trucks handing out their packaged cookie ice cream sandwiches. The packaging was simply awesome, and the treat itself was really cool. However, I thought it was a bit too much in terms of a total package; the cookies (snickerdoodle and chcocolate chip) and ice cream (chocolate) were all overwhelming in a sugary sense.
However, I was extremely excited to go to Coolhaus’s actual location in Culver City because I was eager to try a fresh ice cream sandwich. When I got in, I was glad to see that the servers were friendly, the flavors were weird and aplenty, and the cookies were looking awesome.
I tried two flavors – that’s the max you can try – before deciding on a flavor I didn’t even try: dirty mint. I also got the black and white cookie as well as a more neutral basic cookie to complete the ‘wich.
After having a beer and burger at the nearby Father’s Office, an ice cream sandwich was nice to satiate the stomach – well, I guess that was the idea. It was true: the ice cream was a very nice and welcome addition to my belly, but the cookies once again really overpowered the ice cream and I felt like I was getting too much of it. The black and white cookie was pleasant in the fact that the coating made the cookie soft on the outside and a little more textured on the inside. The dirty mint had a strange aftertaste – not a bad one, just not as minty as I’m used to – that threw me off a bit.
And the whole thing made me really, really thirsty. Thankfully, they have cups available for water here, which is awesome.
Note that parking is available on the street and is not that difficult to find.
The vibe of the place was fantastic, overall, and there wasn’t any other place I would have rather been than with my friends. It was a really fun experience that I’m sure you would want to share with friends, family, or anyone you hold close. While I found the ice cream sandwich just subpar, I still think Coolhaus is worth checking out.

I first learned of Coolhaus several years ago when I spotted their truck in Midtown in NYC. I was impressed by not only the creativity of the company, but also by the friendliness of the employees. The LA truck provided a similar experience and the quality of the ice cream resembled what I’d had in NYC.
Having had the fried chicken and waffle, as well as the froot loops and milk ice creams from the trucks, I was curious to see the range of flavors that they offered in the store. Everything looked so good! For a brief while, I was only person in the store and I Took full advantage of the guys offer to try as many flavors as I wanted.
I enjoyed the Thai ice tea and coconut negroni, which were refreshing on a very hot day. But, the brown butter candied bacon and the summer special «fast food» — Tahitian vanilla with my chocolate balls and shoestring fries — were the highlights! I was sold on «fast food» after the guy told me that it resembled french fries dipped in a milkshake. Yummy!
I didn’t want the mess of an ice cream sandwich, so I got a small cup ($ 4) with two flavors — fast food and chocolate molten lava cake, which paired very nicely together. The quality of the ice cream here is top notch — creamy, not too sweet, and with the perfect consistency. Combine that with very unique flavors and you’ve got a winner. It’s hard to imagine getting bored by this place.
