Specialties
Gourmet and handmade ice cream, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cakes, hot chocolate, ice cream floats and more! Featured coffee partner: Blue Bottle Coffee. We have trucks too (duh!).
History
Established in 2009.
Coolhaus was born out of an interest in exploring how food relates to architecture; we call it Farchitecture. Our ice cream sandwiches are named after architects in order to make architecture fun and accessible to the public, while they enjoy our one-of-a-kind handmade creations. We launched in LA in 2009 and have expanded to a fleet of 10 trucks in Austin, Miami, New York and Dallas and a Shop in LA. Our retail line can be found at Whole Foods and other gourmet markets and sports stadiums (like the Mets!)
Meet the Business Owner
Natasha C.
Business Owner
Natasha and Freya started baking cookies and making ice cream in Freya’s mom’s kitchen in the Fall of 2008. They named the flavor combinations after architects and architectural movements they were inspired by and started experimenting on wacky flavor combinations on friends and family.
One day it occurred to Natasha and Freya that an ice cream truck would be a perfect way to disseminate their ice cream sandwiches around the city of LA. The truck would be a nod to the past tradition of the Good Humor man selling ice cream novelties around neighbor-hoods, but with a modern twist. They launched at the Coachella Valley Music Festival in April of 2009, generated buzz and foodie following, and now have 3 trucks and a shop in Los Angeles, 2 trucks and 1 cart in New York, 1 truck in Miami, 1 truck in Dallas, 2 trucks in Austin and their product at all SoCal Whole Foods markets.
