Sharona Yashar, MD

I wouldn’t go back to Dr. Yashar. After waiting half an hour past my appointment time before she saw me, she seemed very rushed the whole time and it was clear that while she was trying to be nice, she didn’t care about my needs nearly as much as she cared about finishing the appointment. Now, there was nothing she explicitly did to rush me, and she never said anything, but the vibe was clear. Some doctors go above and beyond the minimum effort and Dr. Yashar did not do that. There were a couple of minor problems I had wanted to discuss with her, separate from my main concern, that I just didn’t even mention because it was so obvious that she wanted to leave. She didn’t even give any guidance for whether follow-​up was needed, and when I picked up my prescription, the pharmacist thought it was odd she hadn’t given me much direction on how she wanted me to use it.
I’m also not super confident in her knowledge as a doctor either. She spouted off some facts about my condition and I’m sure they were true… but that same «minimum effort» vibe kept coming across. I plan on going to another dermatologist because I just don’t trust Dr. Yashar’s opinion. I don’t think she’s the type of person who really wants to get to the bottom of a problem, instead she just wants to come to the quickest possible conclusion.
I’m giving her two stars only because she was never actually mean or rude, but that’s about all I can say for her.

I’m sorry but her Unilocal reviews are not true.
First of all, I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment. Plenty of time to fill out paper work etc. However, I literally waited 30+ minutes before I was seen.
Dr. Yashar was very nice but, she was so quick to come to a conclusion of what I should do with a cyst on my face. With one quick look, she immediately told me that I needed to have it surgically removed. However, she was not confident it cutting it out herself and that I should go somewhere else. She also made me very nervous by saying that because the cyst was close to my lip, the shape of my lip would likely change. She also told me that while I could get a cortisone shot, that would probably leave a dent in my face as well. So in conclusion, there was nothing I could do but go see another doctor who was capable of cutting out the cyst and that my lip would change shape. Awesome.
Of course this left me feeling uneasy and I went to another dermatologist for a second opinion.
There I was told that cutting was the last option and we should try a low dosage of cortisone. If I were to get a dent because of the shot, it would not be permanent and would go away within a couple months. This new dermatologist also told me that if we needed to cut the cyst open, she would perform the surgery herself and that we should try and get the cyst as small as we could so the scar would be very little. This very informative and confident doctor was Rachael Cayce at DTLA Derm.
So in conclusion, Dr. Yashar, while very nice, is not a very good dermatologist. She is not confident in what she does and also is quick to decide what you should do without even fully thinking things through. I would never go back or refer her to anyone. If you care about yourself and your skin, go see Dr. Cayce instead. She is a much more informed and skilled doctor.

Glad I checked Unilocal for a Dermatologist and found Dr. Yasher. My uncle had skin cancer a few years ago and I had a growth that looked similar and was growing. Very patient and kind, her bedside manner and thorough explanations are special for a young doctor. She immediately knew my growth was benign but suggested it be removed and sent for biopsy. And she removed the whole thing — not just a tiny piece — that would have required waiting for a result or a 2^nd appt. She is so skilled that my band aid didn’t even have a drop of blood the next day. Dr. Y specializes in real serious skin problems (UCLA Med School smart!), but I probably could have gotten help for my crows feet if I’d asked. Very happy I do not need a follow-​up. However, if I need more Derm, this is where I’ll come. Parking in the Culver City lot is only 1 ½ blocks away, & its free for 2 hours. So you’ll have time for a quick lunch or HH after you’re cured!

I saw Dr. Yashar for an overdue mole check. I am pale and have lots of freckles, moles and discolorations. Dr. Yashar wasn’t a preferred provider for my insurance so I went to another dermatologist first — big mistake. I’d rather pay the out-​of-​network fee and see a good dermatologist.
FYI There is parking on site but I’m not sure of the charge as I found a spot on the street — there was lots of street parking when I went during the day.

Great service, nice ambiance, friendly session, informative doctor, reasonable prices, easy parking — what can I say? This was a worrisome appointment with a breezy outcome! Thanks, I will be back for more skin care needs as they appear.

I’ve had two appointments now with Dr. Yashar. I went in with an enlarged growth that my GP wanted to send me to a surgeon. She shares office space with the podiatrist Dr. Najat whom you will also see is well reviewed here. The young women at the front are friendly, professional and courteous. On my first visit, I waited almost a half hour past my appointment time but when she came in, her apology seemed sincere and authentic but it is one of the reasons I waited til a follow up visit to write a review. Once she was there she was completely patient and attentive, answered every question thoroughly in understandable terms. The problem under the arm was nothing, an irritated mole that responded well to the not expensive cream she prescribed. While I was there she looked me over. All the things I thought looked a little weird she assured me were normal for being almost 60. She did see something on my back so she skived it off, no pain but I had to sign a form acknowledging that I would have a scar. Phone report on the biopsy happened when they said it would. It wasn’t entirely good news but they assured me that although it wasn’t cancer, it was weird enough (what they call atypical) that she wanted to re-​check it. I go on the appointed day and this time she comes in right on time with the same calm and unhurried manner. «Okay now were going to take another sample.»
«Wait, you’re going to cut me again?
Yes, (still sweet as can be) didn’t they explain it?
„No.“
“What did they tell you?»
I explain blah-​blah and she goes over the whole atypical but not malignant but we really should take another sample and if we don’t A, B or C might happen. See this is what I mean about Dr. Y. Never a hint of impatience and complete and compassionate explanation. She even gave me the choice of what kind of scar I wanted. The results were right on time and this time I got an all clear with a routine re-​check at 3 months.
**summing up**
Minor quibbles, very late to first appt. The communication error so I couldn’t mentally prepare to get cut again and she’s only in this office 2 days a week so appointments tend to be weeks out but a lot of us are used to this, right?
Overwhelming positives: helpful staff, an almost unknown gentleness and patience in her manner, thorough, explicit and understandable explanations. She waited until she was sure I had become comfortable with why I was being cut again before proceeding. I’ve had mostly men doctors, some good and some awful. Dr. Y is a real sweetheart and a terrific doctor. Highly recommended. I might take a half star off for the quibbles but that’s not allowed and I’m so pleased overall that that I’m going to give the whole 5 stars. I should watch it. Addenda: Parking is usually available in the open lot just to the south at Madison. Not horribly expensive or there are meters usually directly across Venice near Rallys. By fall 2015, the office will be three medium blocks from the Palms Expo Line Station.

I just had my first appointment with Dr. Yashar this morning, and I couldn’t be happier.
Dr. Yashar is friendly, understanding, and thorough. She looked at my skin condition and told me her initial diagnosis, plus the less likely causes, in detail.
Even better… I’m unfortunately a bit of a hypochondriac who does her own internet research, and I’ve VERY used to doctors rolling their eyes when I ask if it could be x or y that I’ve seen pictures of on the internet. (Certainly I can understand this… an anxious amateur telling you how to do your job can be unwelcome for sure.)
However, with Dr. Yashar, she addressed my concerns seriously when I asked if it could be a more serious condition I’d heard of.
She told me about her experience with that condition, and exactly why she didn’t think it was that, but offered a biopsy to rule it out anyway for my peace of mind. I told her I would like the biopsy, and she performed it then and there, no problem… no rescheduling… done in 3 minutes. Totally painless too!
Dr. Yashar also told me all of my options for treatment based on her initial diagnosis, explained which one she believed was best, and went into detail about potential side effects and why they happen.
The whole experience was very welcome after so many doctor’s appointments where I’ve felt rushed, not been listened to, or given a «for sure» diagnosis in 30 seconds that turned out to be wrong. Dr. Yashar is clearly experienced and knowledgeable, and cares about her patients.
I actually wish she were a general practitioner so I could go to her for EVERYTHING! :)
Overall I left feeling confident, hopeful, and HEARD. At no point did I feel like she was trying to rush me out, force me into anything, or convince me of anything. Highly highly recommended for anyone looking for a great dermatologist!

I am so happy I found Dr. Yashar. She is very professional, yet so warm and caring. It was such a pleasant visit. I had two moles removed and it was over so quickly and healed up nicely.

I needed to get some spots on my face checked and made an appointment with Dr. Yashar, who’s information I found online. The office staff was very friendly and the doctor saw me soon after my arrival. The examination was thorough and very informative about which spots were harmless and which ones I needed to be concerned about. She treated the latter with liquid nitrogen and I was out the door 20 minutes after my appointment time. Granted, my case was very simple but overall it was a very positive experience. Two thumbs up.

I think I finally found my dermatologist! She was professional, easy to talk to, explain why a medication would be helpful and why my skin is freaking out due to other medical condition I’m dealing with. She even called to check on me and if I had any issues with my prescriptions or any question. Who does that anymore? She’s amazing! I’m so impressed by her I had to write this review.
