do not buy anything from these people who do not even speak english. we bought trees from them $ 200 a pop and they died within two weeks — -they do not guarantee any of their products/plants etc… why??? — whereas home depot or loewes will. the owner is a blatant liar and i wonder how these people stay in business. illegal???

Orta was employed to change from the grass on our property to drought resistant dymondia grass. It was a 2 step process — remove and kill the existing grass and then plant the dymondia grass and nurture the grass while it took root. The cost of the job exceeded $ 4500. Process #1 was not done properly and 4 months after the dymondia was planted, the garden looks dry, bare and untended. The promise of a lush ‘lawn’ of dymondia was totally inaccurate and Orta has not been responsive to our many calls. Would not recommend them for this type of work.

We’re undertaking a huge landscaping project and plan to spend a good amount of cash at the right nursery. We thought we’d give Orta Gardening Supplies a try since our landscaper spoke highly of their business. We stopped by at 2:45 today — front gate was wide open, plenty of staff members around — and started to browse. When we got back to the front of the nursery(approximately 5 minutes later), the man working there rudely asked«Are you almost done, because we’re closed and you need to leave.» We explained that we just had some questions about pricing on a few plants, to which he told us he did not have time and we could come back on Monday. We were completely dismissed without even an ounce of customer service or courtesy. Apparently they close at 2pm on Saturdays, but do not post their hours(nor a helpful«Closed» sign) anywhere at the front. Open gate, no posted hours, middle of the day — one would assume a business is open, no? Anyways, we will not be coming back on Monday nor ever and will be purchasing our 300 or so plants somewhere else.

I found this place to be a gem. They have a good selection of plants in good shape for good prices. Salvador was very helpful and he took his time with me and all my questions. They do not have a good return policy, actually there are no returns period. So don’t over buy.

Orta is a great local gardening supply store. The staff is knowledgeable and they have everything you need to build a great garden, including well priced sod and quick delivery. It is for the professional gardener, no frills, but has a very good selection and very reasonable prices.

They sell plants, tools, soil, sod etc. Doesn’t hurt to try and negotiate your prices and might as well compare them too as there are two other nurseries next to it. One is another nursery right next to it(enter from the Carl’s Jr parking lot) and another 1 – 2 blocks south on Sepulveda heading towards Washington. Good variety of plants, trees and out of the 3 I believe this is the only one that carries sod.
