BEST samosas in LA! I’ve heard that said repeatedly by people familiar with the the Indian dish, who’ve tried them from a few different places! They’re the perfect size, taste and freshness, as they’re constantly being made and sold throughout the day. This place is a staple for Indian food and groceries. Been going here since 98, and their food remains as delicious as it was back then. Which is a lot more than can be said about similar establishments nearby. The staff is friendly and quick, they have to be as it’s almost always crowded! The food they have is all vegetarian, but it’s so damn good, that it doesn’t matter! The prices are relatively low, as they’ve only been raised a few times over the past decade or two, which is find to be reasonable. There’s limited space to dine there, as it’s a small joint, and parking is irksome to find in the evening, but I’ve seen lines! It’s just that good.

I love this place! It is literally a grocery store with a restaurant inside it. Be careful though, the food is very spicy and you will need the yogurt to cool it down a bit. I have no idea what I ordered, since nothing is labeled –I just point and they serve. I like the one with the chickpeas in it. The pickles that come with the combo lunch plate are even more spicy than the food. The food is not too salty or greasy –it’s just right for me! Plus, everything is vegetarian here!!! Yay!!!

Awesome Indian vegetarian food for the price! We had assorted foods from the cooked food section and all were great. Sweets are also fresh and tasty. I also bought Ceylon tea from grocery section and it tasted just like childhood! There is not much by the way of customer service but if you really want that — go to the real restaurant. This is ethnic grocery and cooked food to go heaven.

I’ve been looking for a mom and pop spot that serves delicious traditional indian food and finally found a gem. I had their lunch special with brown rice, Chana massa la and daal with a piece of nann… AMAAAAAZING! So flavorful and authentic. The price was just right too! One thing that I loved about this spot was the fact that it had a grocery which has any spices you’d look for to cook your own indian dish. As a vegetarian I’m always looking for Indian spices to kick up my meals and I finally found a place. The only reason why I didn’t give this place 5 stars is because there is limited seating and the seating that’s there is uncomfortable. The tables weren’t clean and they didn’t match… the chairs were like backyard bbq chairs… just wasn’t inviting to sit and eat although I did. Just wish the seating was more accommodating… I’ll definitely be back!!!

This place is no joke. The food is flavorful and tasty, without being too salty or greasy, like a lot of other buffets. The desserts are to die for. Good service and SOCHEAP!

The best Indian food in Los Angeles, really! Great vegetarian and vegan options. I brought my boyfriend here once who is a huge meat eater and he loved it. Just shows you how good the food is. I would say, don’t expect 5 star customer service. Sometimes I’ve noticed the cook out front serving the food and getting frustrated because she’s overworked. The sweets are delicious too! Try the chai tea. Make sure to bring cash or a card to pay for parking. This place is also a market with a small outdoor eating area in front of the store.

I dislike very much getting ripped off and the most delicious food on Earth can not justify it. I moved locally and began eating here regularly. The food is good and the service acceptable. They portion the servings too small and they take advantage of you at the register. Pay attention to the labeled prices because they always gets increased at register in a deceptive and ugly way. This sweet Indian family will capitalize on your ignorance if you let them Be Advised.

I came back to check out the food for dinner a few nights ago. It was ok. The naan is not worth getting. It seriously looks and tastes like they lightly microwaved a piece of bread. The eggplant and potato was good but the palak paneer also tasted like it was out of a package. The salty lassi was good. We sat in their covered outside area and they also have uncovered outdoor seating. Parking is street parking. I don’t think I would come back here to eat dinner or lunch but maybe to buy some groceries.

Tasteless food ! We tried dahi puri and samosa. Dahi puri was not even the real dahi puri you get at chaat places. It was more like dahi papdi. For context, we are indian vegetarian couple from Bombay and like spicy food. Staff was courteous though and grocery section though small was ok.

I am totally into this spot. Used to come here all the time during my dinner break when I worked in the area. It’s a humble modest hole in the wall family run joint. I think they are originally from southern India but then moved north, the flavors and style of cuisine is a blend of both regions(that’s what the owner told me anyway.) The food can range from excellent to okay depending on the dishes and the night.(I ordered a kidney bean dish once that resembled an American chili and that was seriously disappointing and never ordered it again.) I’d say maybe 1 in 7 times I was disappointed in the dish I picked; but they are very generous and allow you to try dishes so that helps and is recommended. Today everything I picked was fantastic — seriously, so flavorful and tasty. A daal lentil dish, cauliflower/potato curry, mushroom/snow pea dish that had a hint of sweetness to the curry that was super delicious, and a very flavorful paneer bell pepper dish in a red curry sauce. I will be honest, my order was a bit pricier than I had hoped for a place that has a buffet/cafeteria within a market, but the food goes a long way when you order it a la carte rather than the combo meal. Some dishes have an additional $ 1.50 charge –like the jackfruit curry, but it’s worth it(one of my favorites). I also don’t regret ordering a single dish because each was excellent. Very happy with my selection this time. I really do love the family that owns this establishment. Each member is so sweet and kind. There’s no question I’ll be back.

Good, Healthy, Vegetarian Indian Dishes! I have lived in the area for nearly 10 years and finally had the guts to go in there to try their delicious Indian Food. They have been in business for quite some time and offer a very nice variety of Indian Vegetarian Dishes at reasonable prices. I had my first full meal there and everything tasted Delicious, including the Mango Drink. Sorry, but I do Not remember the names of the foods, however by looking at the pictures, you can definitely get a Good Idea on exactly what I ate. It is a Perfect Restaurant if You are Vegetarian! Come On Out And Try It Out For Yourself Sometime!

Went here for dinner just now. It’s really 3.5 stars– Unilocal is right on. They offer cheap, authentic vegetarian indian fare. You order at the counter either by the ounce(if to go) or a combo. We ordered a combo that came with 2 dishes, rice, yogurt and cucumber, naan and a mango lassi. It was $ 8. we also ordered the pakora($ 1) and samosa(1.25). There is seating in a semi enclosed area and out in the sidewalk. Only the sidewalk is dog friendly. We both decided the best parts of the meal were the samosa and the mango lassi. The samosa was just delicious and we will surely stop by to buy more in the future. The lassi was made fresh and I definitely had a piece of mango at the bottom of my cup, certifying it was made from real fruit. The least favorite thing was the naan, which was not worth getting again. The Daal and the Chana masala were ok, but we’ll be trying something else in the future. It’s also more worth it to get stuff by the ounce to take home– we’ll be trying that next too.

I just got back. I ordered #2 combo to go, I paid $ 1 tip. And I didn’t get what should be included.(e.g. Samosa) (I paid $ 2 extra for that, right?) It wasn’t even crowded. You know what it’s like to be, when you get home, open the bag and notice your order is not compete. I’m really sad

Fiancé and I came here for the first time tonight to purchase some spices but ended up having dinner here, as there is a restaurant, too. The packaged spices we came in here for were way less expensive than I would have paid at Albertson’s, Von’s or any other local grocery chain. Also, there was a generous amount in the packages for the price point. The variety of spices in the store was plentiful, too. There was one pesky spice, however,(that I have thus far been unable to find) called Tarragon that they didn’t have, and one of the women working there went so far as to pull out her phone to try and find it for me. The restaurant is Vegan/Vegetarian Cuisine and the gentleman behind the counter was extrememly helpful in letting us sample some of the dishes before we decided on anything. He was patient and didn’t rush us in any way. I had a #1 Combo with lemon rice, yogurt curry, and a jackfruit something or other. All the food was delicious and flavorful. We live in the area and will definitely be back here for the groceries AND the restaurant. Food and pricing was nice, but the customer service was exceptional.

Delicious INDIANFOOD in Culver City! I must have passed by this place over 200 times before trying it and once I did, I regret not trying it much sooner! Meat is awesome, I love meat, but sometimes you just need a break from it. You can either eat a salad at home like a loser or come here and be a champion! Really tasty food, low sodium, vegetarian/vegan. Trust me, your body will thank you! **RECOMMEND** Jackfruit Curry –My Favorite –Mildly spicy, great overall flavor –Jackfruit has Beef-like consistency Yogurt Curry –Smooth, nice balance of tart and sweet –Thinner Consistency Palak Paneer(Spinach & Cheese Curry) –Healthful, tasty –Cheese is very smooth, mild –Thinner consistency than over curries Eggplant & Potato Curry –Delicious, mild spice –Very melts in your mouth but isn’t mushy –Great flavor/spice combo Lentil Curry –Full of beans –Great for bean lovers! Lemon Saffron Rice –Rice elevated to greatness –It’s only $ 1 more, just get it! Masala Dosa –Lightly fried potato/veggie stuffed crêpe-like roll –Veggie soup for dipping –Yogurt & Spicy sauces for dipping **MENU** Admittedly, I haven’t tried everything, heck I haven’t even tried most of the stuff here! But what I have tried I liked, and in some cases, LOVED! Feel free to ask the staff if you have any questions. You can also read the other Unilocal reviews/tips, they are all pretty helpful! I personally prefer the combos, the no.1 is great if you are on a budget and just want a 2 item combo. The no. 3 is my favorite because it comes with a better kind of naan and a lassi(regular, mango, strawberry). Mango is so good! **VALUE** The value here is amazing, for the west side. If you only want to spend $ 5 – 6 but still get something delicious and healthful and enjoy Indian curry, this is without a doubt a great choice! Despite not having meat, you will be full! CREDITCARDSACCEPTEDHERE **CONCLUSION** This isn’t just a restaurant, it’s a full blown market too! They have imported Indian food items, supplements, fruits, sauces, snacks, cookies, spices. They have a wide variety of bottled juices including guava juice and coconut water. They have some produce like garlic, green onions, onions, potatoes, so if you live a block away and need some garlic, hey, stop by and see what they have before heading to Albertsons or Ralphs. They make their own pastries and sweets, hence the name, but I haven’t had a chance to try any yet. There are other Vegetarian Indian spots like Samosa House and while that place is pretty good, this place is better. It feels more authentic to me and it’s much cheaper!

UnilocalINSIDERTIPFROMDOREEN(AKAAZNPERSUASION): Quick, cheap, hot Indian food in a small supermarket. ***** The staff here are borderline unfriendly/rude, but the food is so cheap here and near my house I come here a lot. If I am doing no carb I get their curries and just eat it like soup. They have two, maybe three sizes. My faves are: veggie curry, potato curry, palak/sag paneer, garbanzo bean curry. The lentil curry is sorta bland, not spicy enough for me or a smidge bitter for some reason. If I am eating rice, I get two curries with a side of pickles and yogurt too. I do like their samosas. I haven’t tried anything else really, but I do enjoy their food! They have white basmati rice and lemon rice too. They sell desserts as well. They have shakes too, but I haven’t had any. The only downside is sometimes there is no parking and even if I circle residential, I still can’t find anything so I give up and go somewhere else.
