Chinatown Express

Staff was friendly but food had been sitting awhile. No fortune cookie with purchase. Lame.

Had the Singapore Noodles usually a favorite of mine
Too spicy and service was awlful. Food was inedible will never go back

This is a tough one. At about 8 o’clock on a Friday night everything in the Chinatown Express steam table looked just slightly haggard, but nothing so distasteful as to deter a hardworking hombre with a case of the hongries (the forerunner of «hangry»).
With nobody else in line, the most tempting item was orange chicken, so I ordered it, accompanied by a heapin’ helpin’ of a cabbage-​laden lo mein – no fried rice – to go.
«Would you like anything else?» was the obligatory sendoff from the counter girl, and it occurred that a bag of crispy noodles would certainly hit the spot, so I asked for that. At once she shot me a quizzical look. «You know, deep-​fried noodles in a bag – don’t you have that?» I asked. Her colleague said that item #13 on the menu board has fried noodles. They so didn’t get my drift that I considered adding, «Like they have at Panda Express.»
«That’s all right, just pack in some soy sauce, chili oil and chopsticks and that’ll be fine,» I said, then sidled to the pay area only to see a mound of Ziploc bags filled with crispy noodles on display next to the cash register. «This is what I’m looking for – crispy noodles,» I exulted. She said, «One dollar,» I agreed and she added them into the white plastic bag.
I could have asked, «What do YOU call these noodles?» as by this juncture I was slipping into hangry after all. At home, the lo mein was satisfactory, but spaghetti-​based. The orange chicken, so appealing compared to its tray-​mates, was thin strips of thigh meat jacketed by glazed gobs of breading. By rights, it should have come with a fried chicken thigh on the side.
Some of my favorite independently owned mom-​and-​pop corner take-​outs have disappointed me lately, and Panda Express has admirably filled the void. Still, and I don’t know why, I might try something else at this Venice Blvd. at Motor Ave. location if similarly desperate.

Orange chicken is phenomal. The girls who work here are incredibly sweet. They let you sample a variety of the dishes before you choose which ones you want. 2 item combo is around 7 dollars which is pretty pricing given SAN HING down the street is 4.99. But Chinatown express does take card which is more convenient in my opinion. Definitely try the sweet and sour chicken, orange chicken, kung pao chicken is delicious as well. All in all I thought all the dishes were pretty tasty. I was highly satisfied.

Listen… quick and fast. I like it… is it the best Chinese Food I have ever had… nope… that was in London’s Chinatown… amazing little place… so no the food is not as good as there… but my chicken and mushrooms bowl as good… the veggies tasted fresh… the meat was well cooked… the fried rice was fried rice… and it was about $ 5.50… Will I take the love of my life there to celebrate our next wedding anniversary… most likely not… but in these economic times… one never knows. (the parking lot is too tiny, but the staff is nice).

I’ve been in the area for 14 years. Tried this place for the first time. I would rather go to Panda Express, at least the chow mien is made of egg noodles not spaghetti. Orange chicken no goo!

I came here I love the chow mein and the pork chop ! Such a good price ! A hole in the wall but the food was good. I love Chinese express takeouts because you get your bang for your buck. When I went the owner was there and she was really nice ! I believe her name was Ana she gave me all of the recommendations of what to get. It was just a quick stop I made but I was happy with this spontaneous stop.

This place is great. I eat here all the time. They even have your choice of traditional or rice noodle chow mein and they also serve brown rice for 50 cents more. I love their mixed vegetables.

Great food good price. $ 6.98 for a a big meal? Amazing. The people there are nice there cashier was also cool great staff. Can’t wait to go back again!

Panda Express is away much better.

Idk what ppl expect. 5 star fine restaurant? It’s a Chinese fast food restaurant. I go here a lot and always get the Hawaiian chicken. Love the food and they hook u up.

I don’t come here often but when I’m in the mood for fast food Chinese food I definitely choose this place over Panda Express. I’m for sure not a fan of Panda Express but Chinatown Express manages to be tasty without being too greasy. I normally get the lo mein, the fried rice is usually a little too dry for my taste, and then sesame chicken and beef. The egg roll is kinda gross without any kind of duck sauce (which may not exist on the west coast).

They received one star because the person who served me was polite. Other than that, DO NOT EAT HERE… THIS IS THE WORST CHINESE FOOD I’VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE.
The orange chicken was all dough with no chicken in it and the chicken and vegetables was old tasting.

Everything here sucks. They definitely use all chep products. I couldn’t eat any thing then fried rice. Two stars for cleaning and customer service. There’s no parking now i know why people really hate this place.

The place I go to for my dirty Chinese food fix. Don’t come here expecting something from the San Gabriel valley. It hits the spot!
Ive never had a problem with service either. Feels like any quick service restaurant.

I feel completely robbed.
I was stopping by 7 – 11 to pick up a few things on my way home, and decided to try this place. I wish I read the Unilocal reviews prior to ordering. Like Panda Express, this place has a combination plate option with either fried rice or chow mein, and 1 – 3 entrée options.
I ordered fried rice, orange chicken, kung pao chicken, and eggplant tofu. While at the cash register, I noticed they had other items that were not premade for combination plates, and I asked to add an order of beef chow fun. The woman informed me it would take 5 minutes to make the chow fun. I paid for the bill, told her I would be back, and walked over to 7 – 11 to buy a few things.
When I got back to Chinatown Express, the woman was just putting in another box and tying the bag. «Perfect Timing!» I thought. She handed me the bag, and I thanked her and headed home.
Surprise surprise! The plate the woman gave me was not mine. The top box was my beef chow fun, but the bottom box was a 2 item plate with chow mein (I ordered Fried Rice), orange chicken, and some other chicken item. So not only did I receive someone else’s plate, I paid for a 3-​item plate and received a 2-​item plate.
Now, on to the food…
The orange chicken was more like batter, covered in orange chicken sauce. In all of the pieces that were in the plate, I saw less than 2 pieces of actual chicken. The rest of the pieces were simply fried batter balls. HORRIBLE.
The chow mein had poor flavor and was probably the worst I’ve ever had. The other chicken item and the beef chow fun were both fair to poor.
All in all, this was a horrible experience. This is a zero-​star restaurant, not 2.5 stars.

The orange chicken had too much batter and not enough chicken. In one meal I had mushy orange chicken and overly crunchy.
The beef and broccoli, fried rice, and noodles were all plain and lacked flavor.

I have a weird thing for shitty Chinese food and the hankering struck just as I was passing this place the other night. Either my standards have gone up or I have officially found the worst Chinese food in the city. Panda Express is some gourmet stuff compared to this place, and it costs about the same to boot. I had the Orange Chicken (at least they claimed there was chicken underneath the breading), BBQ Pork (about as flavorful as my belt and just as leathery) and Kung Pao Chicken (just, wow). The Kung Pao had a tomato-​y sour flavor going on that reminded me somewhat of a vurp (urban dictionary that if you must). At least it was spicy.
The staff was friendly and the service was quick, which saves this from being a 1-​star review. Also, I hold out hope that someday I will find an even worse place. Like I said, I have a weird thing for shitty Chinese food.

The owner Kim is unscrupulous. I ordered crispy shrimp with fries which was 7.29 and it came with 4 pieces of shrimp over a bed of uncooked cabbage, when I asked for an exchange the rude cashier said «You should ask before ordering» and they refused to give me a refund out right. When I asked about the cabbage she said «If you don’t want it, that’s fine.» who eats uncooked cabbage? It was put there to deceive customers into thinking they are getting more than what’s actually served. I have never in my life had such a negative experience at any establishment. If I could have my debit card decline the payment I would. Ruined my evening!
