Good sales. I got a hot pink Bosu Ball (flat bottom) for 80 bucks on sale years ago. They normally go for 120.
I pop in often to re-​up on ping pong balls.

Sarita treated me like a criminal while trying to exchange a swimming cap WITH A RECEIPT!!! I’ll be calling corporate! Not to mention she’s trying to give advice on swimming items and can’t even swim!!!

I came in asking for a basket for my bike because I thought I would try and see if they had it which the associated replied, «unfortunately we do not carry». However, instead of being a polite and helpful associate they just looked at me like anything else because my conversation is more important than helping you find what you need. When I asked if they had any other accessories for the bike such as something that would hold your water bottle he said, «its over there.» Now mind you saying over there can mean anywhere, it was not very specific. I felt that instead of telling me its over there the employee (hopefully was not the manager) because if so you need to brush up on your customer service because I know what customer service is and that was not it could have said its the back on the right hand side because I had to go looking for the product myself which I did not have a problem with, but felt the employee could have had a better attitude. Upon leaving the store I was pissed and not satisfied with my experience because he didn’t help me out with what I needed but somehow another customer comes in and he is more than willing to stop his conversation and help him out versus myself which I thought was rude.

There’s only 3 spots to park in the back. Also, the store design is two small floors, each about 18ft tall, packed to the ceiling with merch. It feels kinda dangerous, but I’ve never seen anything actually fall. Neither of these things are the employees fault, so, don’t whine to them.
Before you go in, Google on your phone «Big 5 20 discount» and it’ll take you to the scannable coupon on the Big 5 site, good for everything but clearance.
The employees are great! Friendly, motivated, helpful, and fast. The selection is actually very good considering the small space, it’s almost on the level of their bigger locations on Wilshire and the HQ in El Segundo.
Signage is clear and easy to understand. When I first went to this location 4 years ago, it was messy and crazy, but now it’s very clean and organized.
Nearby, there are lots of other great local places to go, so don’t feel bad supporting a «big» chain nestled in the midst of a lot of local businesses! Get coffee across the street, and some comics! Right next door, get a massage, and some Phở! There’s a lot to do in this little cozy strip of Culver City that still has old school suburban charm, and this Big 5 fits in just fine.
It’s only 4 stars because of the parking /​overstocked interior.

Being an outdoorsy, athletic family is awesome because we stay healthy and get to have lots of experiences together. The downside is that being sporty is not always cheap. No fact, it can get pricey for a family of 4 to be buying gear and exercise shoes. But that’s where Big 5 comes in!
Big 5 has very reasonable prices and they always have in-​store coupons, too. I often compare prices before buying anything and can honestly say that most of he time, Big 5 has the lowest prices and best offers.
This particular location is conveniently located for me and has parking in the back. The staff is friendly and, although the store itself is small, I’ve never had a problem finding inexpensive items in the sizes that we need.

I love this place.
There is no better deal other than buying second hand sports gear. They do not have the largest variety of brands but have great deals on quality products. I have some hiking boots that I bought 50% off that have lasted me for years. Customer service is good for returns and things like that just make sure to take care of that stuff when the store is not too crowded.

I am just writing about the service I got a few months ago. All 3 employees, including a manager, I dealt with went over and beyond to be friendly and helpful. One even remembered I had been in the store a week before and welcomed me back. Maybe I am just jaded but that was a really unusually retail customer service experience for me.

Maybe they don’t have the greatest selection of sneakers however I can always find a great deal on a good shoe at this location. Make sure you go Google «Big 5 Coupon» before hand to find the latest coupon deals on all their merchandise.

You’ll find everything you’d expect to find at a sporting goods store here. On the cheap.
Big 5 is meant to serve those who do not wish to spend more money for similar name brand items of typically higher quality from places like REI, Sport Chalet, Dick’s, or Sports Authority.
Big 5 does have name brand items like Adidas, Nike, Spaulding, etc. but usually they will be items that are from previous seasons that need to be sold or are items that the companies make alongside their more expensive ones in order to reach the customer who just needs a shoe that might have the same features of the latest Kobe, but isn’t the latest Kobe (yes they do that). The store is almost like an outlet store in a way, too.
Some of their products from less popular brands do the trick, but always remember that better quality is better quality and more than typically you pay a premium for that. Big 5 products for the most part are «awesomely decent» however.
«Awesomely decent» is also what I used to describe items at the Surplus Store in Culver City which sometimes is in direct competition with Big 5 but mainly for camping gear and supplies and some general outdoor/​elements apparel.
Both will serve you well for these things. However, Big 5 seems to pay a little more attention to its camping products and selection.

Going into this Big 5 is like entering some foreign bazaar. Everything is disorganized and you feel disoriented by how cramped yet sprawling it feels. Except foreign bazaars are actually fun to visit.
We needed some Nike volleyball shoes and a guy approached us immediately. My teenage niece didn’t know what size shoe she was but he led us over to the abysmal section of shoes. Everything on the wall said running but he looked at the shoes, said there was only one style and ran off to get sizes. We didn’t even know what shoe he was looking at. Finally she saw they were Asics and we waited for him to come back so I could say she needed Nike. He huffed, made a face and turned back around.
Granted, she could have given a little more info up front but he also could have picked up the shoe, showed it to us and asked if this was what were looking for before everyone’s time was wasted.

Used to have much better staff; pretty bad now.
If they have what you want, the price is probably right. Extra points for sales.
This location is small, limited stock for most categories, terrible parking.
But again, good prices on most items.
There used to be a girl on the register who was wonderful. If you asked nicely, she would give you the sale price of an item that frequently is on sale, but perhaps not at the moment. That was excellent.
Today the whole store was practically on sale, with coupons, which we had. One category was goggles and everything related by Speedo. My husband who swims picked up a spare nose plug, Speedo, and he points to the coupon with huge list of Speedo swim items, and because it does not specifically say «nose plug» she does not give him the 25% off. She was extremely passive-​aggressive about it, is the real problem. It was not the $ 2 that he would have saved, it was the nasty attitude. We were buying a bunch of other stuff, it’s not like that was the only thing. And the list on the coupon clearly implied «all Speedo swim accessories». We now gird ourselves before entering Passive-​aggressiveLand.

Came here for some football cleats and they have a very limited selection meaning zero.
You walk around the store looking for cleats and when you find them, they’re for soccer, baseball and softball.
When an associate came around, I requested football cleats and they had them in the back where only the employees have access to viewing. I’m like «why is it back there instead of out for your customers to view?!» No reasoning, they just asked me what size and brought them out for me.
If you’re not shopping for something serious and you’re going for more leisure play, then it’s okay to go here and shop for a product at a cheaper price because the same product could be at those other sporting goods shops at double the price.
So I found the cheapest (price wise) football cleats that I needed and that were comfortable and I was set. Checked out and I’m outie five thousand…
One thing to note, they don’t have an elevator and more of their baseball/​softball gear is located upstairs. Sucks if you got a baby in a stroller or are disabled…

You are a sports store just because i am a woman doesnt mean you cant have equal amount of things for us to you lame store! Who doesnt have a womans cup at a sports store they dont even know its called a jill

Not sure why all of the bad reviews, but I’ve never had issues here. The supplies always seem stocked, the staff is super friendly, and I always find what I need. The only real complaint is parking which is pretty atrocious. Other than, it’s a chain, but a pretty decent one. No reason to avoid.

We were here to look for some weight-​lifting gloves and we got what we were looking for.
Staff was present when needed.
We explored different types of ankle support as well and compared with on-​line prices. Theirs are cheaper. :)

Rude assistant manager and store carriers barely anything.
The assistant manager was a tall and bald black man. He was very rude and condescending when I asked him a question about the stores return policy.
When I walked around the store he mocked my question and made fun of me with one of his coworkers. He’s probably frustrated because he’s stuck in a dead end lower management job.
Regardless, making fun and mocking customers is no way to run a business.
I will not be back, store is a waste of time and the assistant manager really inspired me to never return to big 5 and not recommend them.

Parking is a pain, and the store is ridiculously cramped and makes me feel clausterphobic. They did at least have what I was looking for so they at least get brownie points for that.
t I didn’t care for the sales people asking me if I wanted their help 10 different times. The store is only 2ft wide, I see you standing there, if I need your help I will ask you geez –_​_​_​-​.
