Really great coffee and friendly staff.
Good things take time though, but your coffee will be worth the wait. You can tell the staff are passionate about their brew.
Also apparently a brunch pop up on Sundays.

The coffee is pretty good and all, and — at least according the the wild notes and formulas written all over the office walls — the folks at Bar Nine are constantly working hard to make it even better, but $ 12 for two coffees… damn. Seems a bit high when even fancy pants Blue Bottle is selling the same for $ 7 a few blocks away.

I like this place a lot. The coffee is on par with the other third wave coffee shops. Their menu is basic but has all the essential espresso based drinks, along with tea and pour over coffee. But come on. if you want a big menu of gimmicky drinks then go to Starbucks.
I was a little thrown off by the glass jars. I take my coffee to-​go. So I wasn’t really sure what to do with them the first time I came here. But I was later told that I could bring them back for a refill and a discount. Nice. Reduce/​reuse/​recycle. The main drawback to glass jars is that it doesn’t keep coffee hot for long.
Location is weird. Might be a little hard to find. It’s in a mixed commercial/​residential street. The very minimalist warehouse space is interesting. It tells me they’re all about the coffee, and not about image/​branding. Parking can be tricky, depending on time of day. The staff here are pretty nice. Much more outgoing than some of the other coffee shops I’ve been to. It’s pretty refreshing actually. Seating is not that great. It’s basically a few seats at the bar, couple tables in the back, and what I like to call the arena. They have stadium type metal seats. I think this is for their coffee classes that they have on weekends.
One thing to note, this place isn’t that great for doing any work. There’s practically no cell signal for ATT, T-​Mobile, and Verizon. And I’m pretty sure there’s no free wi-​fi here. But who cares, really. Just relax and drink coffee!

From the outside, it reminded me of an abandoned car repair shop with their wire fenced exterior, interesting. And then walking into the café itself the rather high ceiling and minimalistic interior creates a very pretty aesthetic. With the small detailing of plant placements to their unconventional seating arrangements (Aluminum bleachers to one side of the room, high school stadium throwback or what?), hipster doesn’t seem to quite cover the atmosphere.
Drink: Ordered an iced green tea, my mistake. $ 5 for iced water with a tiny hint of tea served in a small glass container.
It was quite disappointingly missing any sign of the tea taste I was anticipating, so I decided to add their homemade date syrup to add some flavor to my «tea». Their date syrup is true to taste and was quite nice.
Thankfully I got to take a sip of my friend’s cold brew, which was okay, so I am not totally disinclined to returning.
They don’t serve soy milk, but I was informed they also make their own hazelnut milk, which sounds enticing.
I love the idea of their reusable containers, other shops should follow suit! Maybe I’ve been spoiled too much with the USA-​sized drinks, but it was an underwhelming amount.
Street parking is free within the neighborhood that this café is nestled within. Didn’t have much trouble as it was a Tuesday at a random time of the day. But I can foresee difficulty in parking on a more popular day.

Bar Nine has to be arguably the most interesting coffee shop I’ve ever been to.
The coffee shop wasn’t too difficult to find because they had a «9» sign outside the gate. Bar Nine doesn’t look like a coffee shop outside, but once I entered the café, it exceeded my expectations. It was a lot bigger than I had imagined. Very spacious, hip, minimalistic, and the atmosphere was really cool. Furthermore, they have giant bags of coffee beans inside rooms and a huge roaster near the corner of the shop. Because of its quiet environment and free wifi, Bar Nine definitely seems like a great place to study and chill with a few friends.
Bar Nine roasts their own beans and you can smell the beans throughout the room, which smells great. I ordered a regular cold brew ($ 5.00) and I was so surprised to see the coffee come out as a little glass jar rather than the typical plastic cups. I thought that concept was super interesting and I absolutely loved it. The cold brew tasted amazing! No bitterness whatsoever and super smooth. The baristas were all extremely awesome and had so much knowledge about coffee. They answered all our questions professionally and always had smiles on their faces. You guys are awesome!
In order to park, you have to street park in the neighborhood, but it wasn’t too difficult at all (I came in on a Tuesday afternoon). I wish they had different cup sizes for their coffee because I would love to order a larger cup size for their coffee. Overall, I loved the vibe here and I would definitely come back if I’m in the LA area again.

Got iced hazelnut coffee. Thought it was going to be sweet, but it was just non-​sweetened coffee very bland… Until I found some sweetener (I think it’s agave nectar) that they had on the counter. I put a crapload of that in my coffee and it was literally the best coffee I’ve ever had. Amazing. Agave nectar saved the day.
Really cool people who work there too. Weird little glass cups, but really cute. I like it. Will come back.

Very unique coffee shop/​warehouse/​roaster. We went here for the first time today. Our barista was super friendly. The coffee was a tad acidic for our taste and at 5.50 for one size a bit on the pricer side but that being said the place has a great industrial concept. It’s literally in a warehouse with a huge roaster in the middle of it along with sectioned off glass cubicles with coffee equations on the glass. It’s not your typical hipster coffee joint but it is totally unique. Additionally it’s a tad hard to find as all you can see outside is a small sign that says «9» in cut out metal.
I’m taking one star away for the coffee acidity level and, also, today when we went it was only 73 °F degree out and they only have one small fan in one section of the warehouse and I was literally sweating all over the place from the heat. I’ll be back I don’t think my fiancée will be though. Lastly, if you plan to study here or do work, be sure to bring some really good noise canceling headphones as the roaster gets extremely loud.

Loved the area this coffee bar was located in! Industrial, yet there was a neighborhood of cute little houses right behind them. I went with my friend and her little baby on Sunday morning. Not typically a place you’d want to take a baby, but she’s an especially good baby.
It was a warehouse, and felt spacious with the high ceilings. A lot of seating, but kind of randomly spaced out. There were quite a few people inside, possibly about 10 to 15, but it was really quiet. It seems like everyone came alone and we were the only ones there talking to each other out loud. Also, for being a place where everyone is caffeinated, the energy in there was unexpectedly subdued. It wasn’t bad, but I tend to like feeling a little bit more energy from my coffee houses.
We ordered two pour-​over coffees and a homemade pastry with blueberry on the inside. Everything came out to be about $ 17. A bit more than I expected to spend for what we got.
Everything tasted great, especially homemade pastry. When I went to get cups to take our remaining coffees with us, they handed me the last mason jars with the copper screw-​on lid. Cute idea in theory, but honestly, it was more of an inconvenience for us. We had to screw off the lids every time we wanted to take a sip while we were walking. It got a little messy.
The service was good and again had a kind of mellowness to it. Think hipster meets hippy. That’s the best way I can describe it. The person that helped us was friendly and sweet.
I think next time, I may go there alone. I think the vibe is a little more suited for people reading or with laptops.

Really cool atmosphere inside! They have some vegan options and make fresh hazelnut milk. Do be warned, its a lot less sweet than anticipated, and overwhelmingly nutty if you’re into that. The service was amazing and they let me try the cold brew with and without the milk before I decided what to get. The cold brew here doesn’t have that bitter black coffee taste, which I really appreciated. Probably won’t be a regular spot since I like taking my coffee to go, but definitely worth checking out. There is plenty of seating space inside and street parking is not hard to find. It is also a no-​tipping establishment, since their prices integrate healthcare and living wages for their employees.

My Americano wasn’t that bitter because they balance it with a bit of honey. I liked my coffee ($ 5), but my friend’s latte with hazelnut milk was much better ($ 5.50 + $ 1 for hazelnut milk). It was the like perfect balance between sweet and bitterness. Perfect!
The place itself is in an odd spot, somewhere where I wouldn’t have imagined a business would be. The inside is huge, there’s a room with giant bags of coffee beans there (it’s nice to see), and they have a gigantic coffee grinder on display. The music wasn’t too loud, so I was able to talk to my friend without any trouble.
The employees were constantly smiling and looked happy to be working there, something I like to see.
The place says they follow a no tipping policy, so don’t feel like you have to tip! But they do accept them if you leave a little something something.
I’ll definitely visit again. This place might be a weekly thing for me.

Y’all are great with your coffees/​snacks and all… but ya need more restrooms.
Do you know what happens when people drink coffee? They poop and they pee. And ya’ll have one stall to accommodate all the men and women that will all need to use the restroom after they’ve drink their coffee.

I am a huge fan of this place. I’m my opinion the best coffee shops tend to have great espresso and espresso bases drinks or great coffee, not both. They came really close to checking off both boxes.
The cappuccino was right on point. I ordered it to go and thought it was kind of cool how they use mason jars for the to go cups. I also ordered a pour over, which was really good. Again it came in a jar with a napkin tied to it to protect your hand from burning (and also to catch the drips because it was kind of difficult to drink from).
The venue is fantastic! I absolutely adore the space with ample inside and outside seating, they even have a cool stadium seating thing going on inside. If you want to learn more about the art of coffee they do cupping classes where you can learn everything you ever wanted to know. They have food as well but didn’t try anything.
Parking is street parking in the neighborhood, wasn’t hard to find parking on a Saturday morning.

Bar Nine was recommended to me by a friend who was a coffee connoisseur (he is a judge in national and international competitions.) Otherwise, I would have never found this place nor would I have felt comfortable to be going to this place.
The ambiance is minimalistic in nature, more so than Intelligentsia. It is roomy with high ceilings, metal and some gorgeous wood, lots of sunlight and has a basic stand up bars as well as a few tables to sit at. You can see a huge roaster machine where they roast their beans as well as bags and bags raw coffee beans lined up. Is it a fun place to hang out at? Sure. Is it cozy? Nope! Lol! But it sure is relaxing for those who don’t like clutter. I do enjoy coming here.
As for the coffee, you must come by to see their set up. Most of their machines are built under the counter to (again) free up clutter from the space. Something new to experience and it makes the interaction between you and the barista actually a bit more enjoyable because your not screaming over a machine.
Which leads me to speak about the staff. Super friendly and knowledgeable. No pretentiousness but they will certainly open to answer any questions.
Lastly, the beverages. Their coffee is so good, it seems like it needs to be enjoyed black with no sweeteners and milk. They do have it available and it’s good to know they make their own hazelnut milk and won’t hesitate to give you a sample to taste. One of the things I also love is that they use glass jars in which you can bring back and reuse.
Whenever I send presents from out of state, instead of souvenirs that says Los Angeles on them, I will send a pound of coffee from Bar Nine as well as local food gifts. I had really good responses from all of them and will continue to come to this hidden gem.

It’s oppressively warm in this café, and the outdoor seating is lacking. In fact, the indoor seating is kind of lacking too.
I came here with a few comrades in search of refreshment and wifi. The latter was somewhat functional, the former was overpriced and not very flavorful ($ 5 for an iced coffee — no thank you).
I don’t imagine a return trip, and I do not recommend it.

First off, I LOVE the jazz music here!
The hazelnut milk latte is smooth and creamy… first time having hazelnut milk, and I like it. The staff is warm (really wish they were accepting tips), love the tattoos.
The shop is quite different from any other coffee shop I’ve been to. It consist of a simple bar with wooden stools, and there is one shared table that seats about 7 – 8 people. Different, but kind of cool. Very mellow, hipster vibe. Come to chill/​relax, or work quietly.

Who knew one pit stop at a neighboring coffee shop (Cognoscenti) would lead me to you! I am very lucky… YEP YEP YEP!!!
Entertainment: They have a message board that tells you what events and/​or what food trucks/​pop ups will be on the premise. On Jan. 23, they’ll be hosting a «anything goes» barista competition!
Location/​Parking: This gem is located in a small narrow residential street. Might have a hard time to find parking, but don’t fret ya’ll! Just park and CHILL inside the establishment!
Ambiance/​Décor: Never ever judge a coffee shop by it’s appearance! Looked like a scary old warehouse from the front! As I opened the door, I was teleported to a whole new world of fancy contraptions, friendly baristas, and the spectacular layout of the place with modern furnishings. Very nice!
Service: Loved the service! The baristas were very friendly and knowledgeable about their coffee! My drink came out fast!
Drink of choice: Get yourself a nice cold brew! Request the brew to go and you’ll recieve it in a mason jar! Something about drinking coffee in a mason jar makes me happpy! They brew bewaye ethiopian beans for 48 hours for a smooth, bright, and refreshing taste! So beautiful!

I’m not a coffee connoisseur so it doesn’t really tickle my fancy but I decided to stop by due to the fact that I met one of the owners at the YEE: Room & Board Modern Mingling and he was nice enough to give me a free drink voucher. Can’t go wrong with FREE!
It is a bit hard to find at first because it’s nudged in between quaint homes and hipster work offices so just keep an eye out. The first thing I noticed was the huge open space because I’m assuming it used to be a ware house of some sort. I went along with what my fellow Unilocalers have recommended which was the iced hazelnut latte (thanks, friends!). It was creamy, smooth, and had just the right amount of hazelnut in it (they use real hazelnut milk, no syrup here). My barista Evan was this cool, tattooed, pierced chick. Although our interaction was short, she was pleasant and had a down to earth vibe.
I’m not certain about the pricing but any artisanal coffee joints with quality/​local ingredients will be on the pricier side. My only qualm was that I wish I had more! On a brighter note, I appreciate that their to go drinks are packaged in reusable jars! Very eco friendly *2 thumbs up*

Different take on coffee.
The coffee shop was industrial. Driving by it you would not think its a coffee shop. I was expecting a typical coffee shop with expresso drinks and fancy foam art, instead it was more of a new hipster environment serving iced coffee roasting their own beans and serving small breakfast items. The ice coffees were served in jar mugs — different and nice presentation. Honestly, I’m still on the fence about the place until I go back a few more times. For now the stars are up because it was an interesting take on coffee.
GUJI (cold brew) — definitely light. Maybe extra extra extra light roast because it never gave me any affect caffeine usually gives me. I added the syrup they had to sweeten my drink and although it sweetened it the taste didn’t excite me. Perhaps it was a different take in coffee and I’m not use it. I’d come back and try it again to try the other beans.
