Ask A Mama

My husband and I signed up for a private class with Jamie that included her coming in to our home and walking us through — sort of what to expect, how to _​_​_​_​_​_​_​, what if _​_​_​_​_​_​_​, etc? she spent the morning with us and even stayed over the allotted time to answer AAALLLLL the questions we had! Being first time parents, we’re anxious/​scared/​terrified/​excited, etc and Jamie really put our nerves to rest!
She came fully prepared, provided us a thorough handout and walked us step by step through: swaddling, changing diapers and clothes, sponge baths and umbilical stump care. She showed us a few tricks of the trade and told us what products we still needed to get.
Having Jamie come in to our home and really set us up was definitely worth it. She was patient, non– judgmental and very kind. 100% recommend her! I’ve already emailed her with a few follow up questions ;)
Now if she could just induce labor, we’d be set!

This class was super helpful. It gave me and my husband a good idea of what to expect for our first baby. Jamie was really nice and helpful and I would definitely feel comfortable contacting her with more questions in the future.

Jamie came to our house for a private parenting class and it was way beyond our expectations! It was 4 hours long, which seems like a lot, but there was so much information that it flew by! I thought it might all be a bit overwhelming but Jamie was so patient and the way she explained everything really made it all stick. She also had a little booklet for us with the most important notes just in case we need a refresher. Jamie was so patient and not judgmental or pushy at all. I feel way more prepared now for my little one! I highly recommend her class.

We could not have been happier with the infant care class we talk from Jamie. The difference between what you get from Jamie and the classes offered at hospitals is drastic, but the cost isn’t. We decided to take an in-​home lesson with one other couple and it was beyond perfect. Jamie’s not only knowledgeable and helpful, but very warm and runs the class with such a nice personal touch. She answered all of our (many) questions and never made anyone feel dumb for our sometimes silly inquiries. If I could give 6 stars, I would.

Thank You Jaime for such a down to earth and informative class. My husband and I initially went to the free Kaiser classes and were not as happy with the impersonal feeling we got from a group class with close to 75 people. We looked around online and came across Ask A Mama which seemed more up our alley with a hands on and small group approach.
Jamie is very knowledgeable about all things infant and in addition to lecture/​instruction time, she presented information in a very open forum type of manner which easily lended itself for questions from the participants. As many know, when you take that trip into motherhood, people will offer you their opinions regardless if you ask for them or not. Jamie’s personality was easy going and non-​judgmental which I think is perfect for first time moms. It was refreshing to take part in such a great class. And a bonus? She came with snacks for the group!
What a tremendous resource this class was!

Jaime (owner/​infant care specialist extraordinaire/​teacher at Ask A Mama) has been an amazing resource throughout my pregnancy.
First of all, she leads an awesome meetup group that brings together pregnant mamas in West LA. Each event has been totally fun, helpful and I’ve met lots of great mama friends this way — right in my area.
My husband and I have since taken two of her classes: The Baby Registry Tutorial and the Infant Care Class.
The Baby Registry Class was SO helpful. Honestly, before the class I had no idea what to register for and what we would really need to prepare for our baby. Jaime helped us tune into what was really useful, what was a waste of time and money and also tuned us into some real practical ideas for preparing for the baby. She even reviewed our registry afterwards to make sure we hadn’t missed anything or fallen into the trap of registering for all the stuff with bells and whistles that seasoned moms just never end up using.
The Infant Care class was EVEN MORE helpful. I found myself using the word «enlightening» multiple times during the class. Jaime covered diapering, swaddling, first aid, car seat safety, bathing, umbilical cord care… even how to put a onesie on in the most comfortable way for the baby without stretching the little one’s arms all over the place :) These are things I am sure we could have figured out with some trial and error… but we feel so good having practiced with a real pro on the dolls Jaime brings so you can get real hands-​on practice.
Jaime also provides a handy booklet for reference.
I highly recommend this class for first time parents! You will learn so much and have fun too.

I went with a mom-​to-​be friend of mine to Ask A Mama and I completely understand I’m not the target audience at the moment, but it was an impressive class. My friend signed up for a group class but we ended up with a private class. Although I’m sure this really changes the experience because the attention is much more individualized, it makes for an awesome experience.
I bought my friend a gift certificate after I heard of this class through word of mouth from a friend. I wasn’t sure if it would be worth the money and I’m so glad I did. My friend doesn’t have any kids but she’s a smart cookie so I wondered what can be learned? This is the type of class that’s full of all sorts of wonderful eye opening beautiful information and we could ask anything. Really! My friend was certainly a little nervous about her dog being around the baby, as well as had some pretty personal questions about birth. Nothing phased the teacher. I like how Jaime took both the pet into consideration as well as the baby so the dog wouldn’t be stressed out by suggesting starting with slowly introducing the dog to the baby. There wasn’t an option to kick the dog out of the family ever. She realized the importance of the dog in the family. She was a wealth of information and we could speak with her in complete comfort and openness. When your friends don’t have kids and your family is far away it’s good to have someone with strong knowledge to discuss things like newborn sleeping habits and what to expect just after birth.
We both left class with a knowledge and confidence that we did not come in with. Ultimately, It felt like the class was really catered to my friend as well as covers so much information I would never think of (and well I actually don’t need to think of) yet. The only drawback I have is that maybe having someone else in the class would be good to hear their questions and experiences so having a group class may be a nice choice. The class did seem a little pricey when I first bought the gift certificate, but ultimately there was so much information that it was worth it. This is such a unique informative class I think every mom-​to-​be should take it.

My husband and I took the infant care class from Jaime at Ask a Mama last Saturday. We also took the Cedars infant care class and found Jaime’s class to be much more informative, intimate and helpful.
Jaime is a natural with tons of practical experience. The three hour class flew by and we learned a ton. It was well organized and the booklet she provided was very useful.
I would definitely recommend this class to any expectant first time parents.

I can not say enough good things about Jaime! She is an invaluable resource for all new moms & dads out there & makes the transition into parenthood so much less stressful :)
