This is hands down the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. My companion ordered sushi, seafood combination with fried rice, I ordered sesame chicken with fried rice and combination lo mein. My companion commented on how fresh the sushi was and we both raved to the staff about our meals. The service was outstanding. From the outside you may not think that it’s little more than a hole in the wall but don’t let that fool you. There is limited seating but they offer carryout as well. A perfect blend of Japanese and Chinese cuisine. We will certainly be going back!

We are new to town and had a few people suggest you this place for dinner. Service was friendly and prices were reasonable. We had General Tso’s chicken and pork-fried rice.

Excellent food. Spring rolls are the best I’ve ever had anywhere. Order the fried rice with the yum yum sauce cooked into it Food is always spot on though sometimes the service is a little cruddy. They do offer takeout/delivery and a group of co-workers and I order from here a lot. We’ve gotten to where we take bets on whether or not we will get the«rude» one to answer the phone. She literally answers the phone«Dragon Chef, wha’ you wan’?» And can be a little gruff… You just have to laugh because the food is good enough you put up with most of the crap. Haha

Chinese food is too salty! We ordered chicken broccoli and tofu vegetables. They both had virtually the same sauce, a viscous brown sauce. We ended up using rice to soak up sauce and then eating with new scoop of white rice. The broccoli was shrunken and overcooked. The moo shu vegetable was also over salted. We didn’t take our leftovers, which is a first for us. The highlight was a pleasant avocado roll and the shrimp shumai were fine. I read in one review the Japanese food was better and wished we had ordered that.

Quite tasty and the perfect stop between Charlottesville and DC. If you’re not doing barbeque, what’s better than solid sushi, szechuan, egg drop soup, and teppanyaki with great fried rice all under one roof? While all-in-ones usually go awry, dragon chef delivers at a really reasonable price

Me and the hubby stopped in for Lunch. The food was very flavorful but not spectacular. I had the Chinese, he had a Japanese dish. The service was good and the prices reasonable. The only minor complaint is from where we were sitting(in front of the Sushi bar), it was a bit awkward and crowded, due to customers picking up to go orders and paying and so forth. Overall, a good experience.

I like the fact that they serve both Japanese and Chinese. Neither is top notch, but both are decent and the fact that they serve both is awesome, because you can get a variety of dishes for a diverse group of people. I recommend going for lunch because it’s way more than enough food for a much cheaper price. Their lunch combination Chinese combos usually provide lunch and dinner: P Their hibachi is no exception. Their sushi is second best in town. Second best to Osaka, who they just can’t compete with, for specials or quality, sorry guys. That’s not to say they aren’t good, just that they aren’t the best in town. They skimp a bit on the hand rolls, and they don’t have a very good selection of ‘special’ rolls. They also come out a bit slow. Some places won’t allow you to tell the chef what you want, here they will, if you know a certain roll, they will allow you to tell them what’s in it and the chef will re-create it. Note: I read a review that said their fish wasn’t fresh but I have NEVER smelled or suspected that their fish wasn’t fresh and I order sushi and sashimi a lot from different places. I’ve never smelled theirs as fishy, and never seen anything that would lead me to think it wasn’t fresh. I’m not sure what happened with that person. I will say that for whatever reason it’s just not as good quality as Osaka. I think they could use some practice in their rolls. They are never quite as stable as Osakas is, and their service isn’t quite as friendly and their wait staff doesn’t smile like hardly ever: P But they are still more than accommodating to any requests we’ve made in the past. Their sweet tea is strange, it’s not your typical tea and it’s never sweet enough for my nephew. I don’t like it so I skip it. It’s never consistent in how it’s made. Their Hibachi is good. This is where they have one up on Osaka. Their yum yum sauce is thick and good, not like Osaka who has runny yum yum. They don’t scorch the veggies, but they do cook them perfectly. They just do something extra to their rice, and their meat isn’t over cooked. I just like their hibachi better, and my whole family tends to agree, which makes me really sad. I can’t talk them into going to Osaka so I can sneak sushi while they have Hibachi. Oh well. Their Chinese food is ok. It’s what you expect from most chinese places. My favorite things are their Vegetable Lo Mein, their Combination Fried Rice(I get it without the chicken, i recommend you do to) and their Pan Fried Dumplings, which no place around town that i have seen is as good as their dumplings, but I haven’t tried a few places yet so I’ll get back to you on that. Those are my go-to dishes at any restaurant, things I will try to tell me how good they are, before I branch into other things. If a place can’t make a bomb fried rice, it fails as a Chinese restaurant IMO.

Don’t go here. I have eaten sushi in a lot of towns but this was the worst. It tastes like what you might imagine cat food on rice would taste like. The fish was ground up like hamburger meat. Very gross.

This place has the best asian food in town! Their sushi is very well done and all of their hibachi is delicious. I definitely suggest trying their«yum yum» sauce. Some of the hibachi dinners are a bit pricey, but their lunch menu is a great bargain. The service is fast and reliable. This is a good place for family dinners and casual gatherings with friends. Also great for group dinners!

So I went here for the first time with my two friends and my friend’s 10 year old daughter for lunch two weeks ago. The three of us had the sushi lunch. The food was great! I’m giving 3 stars because the service was absolutely awful! The server was rude and not accommodating at ALL! Just as an example, we asked for milk to drink for the little one, and he acted like we were insulting him! Ridiculous. Would hesitate to go back due to the rude service.

Since yesterday was our 25th anniversary, & since Monday isn’t a good fine-dining restaurant night, had a surrogate 25th anniversary dinner«Loveboat for Two»($ 49.95) of sushi/sashimi at «Dragon Chef» last night. Something we haven’t enjoyed there since ’09(which I reviewed back then). It was delicious, as usual, & more than enough for two. I was stuffed. I may not remember everything, but am recalling that there were, like, three slices each of five different kinds of fish sashimi — tuna, salmon, white tuna(aka escolar –which I LOVE), rockfish, & one other white fish that escapes me. Six pieces of Tekka-Maki(tuna roll); eight pieces of California Roll; & two pieces each of five different kinds of Nigiri sushi(the fish atop rice ovals) — which included all of sashimi fish varieties. All beautifully arranged on a beautiful 2-foot long bamboo sampan boat — little fishnets & all. It was truly a lovely presentation. In addition, since we’re regulars there & the staff knows us, I had mentioned that this was an anniversary dinner, & our waitress had the sushi chef make us up a complimentary appetizer plate of eight pieces of a special roll that was both interesting & quite good — crab salad wrapped in unbelievably thin slices of avocado. I’d NEVER be able to make anything like this at home. At first I thought the wrapper was cucumber until I ate one. How they can get avocado so thin & can keep it flexible enough to use as a wrapper I’ll never guess. They were topped with drizzles of two different sauces, & an über-spicy hot sauce was used to spell«congratulations!» around the rim of the white plate. It was very sweet of them. They’re such nice people. So needless to say, we were stuffed to capacity. I’m glad they didn’t offer us a complimentary dessert as they have done sometimes in the past, because I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy it. Bottom Line: All in all, a wonderful dinner that we thoroughly enjoyed. The«Loveboat», three large Sapporo beers(served in icy mugs @ $ 6.50 ea.) plus two well-deserved tips — one to our lovely waitress & another one to the tip jar for the wonderful sushi chef pushed the bill over $ 100 a bit. But worth every penny for the service, quality, & kindness.

Coming from the DC area, I would have to say this is the best you can get in Culpeper. I wish they would have more variety when it comes to specialty rolls. I would go back, but I can most likely wait for sushi until the next time I’m in the NOVA area

Quite pleased with Dragon Chef. Many times I’ve found myself judging a restaurant by how it looks and again I have judged incorrectly. The food was delicious. I can only speak for ordering off of the menu but it was fantastic. If I am ever in the area again I will definitely be back.

My husband and I have been here for our anniversary. The sushi was excellent and the atmosphere was wonderful. Our meal on the hibachi table was also very good. I highly recommend this place for families since the kids love the show.

Don’t let the décor fool you. The sushi is excellent. Initially I was scared when I saw the Chinese menu — in my experience usually restaurants that don’t stick to one cuisine are lacking in one or both. And in truth I can’t speak to the Chinese side of the menu but the sushi is very good. Have done both eat in & delivery several to times & never been disappointed.

This was an amazing restaurant. I ordered the General T’so Chicken w/a plate of chicken fried rice. It was delicious. The customer service was very good. Courteous staff, nice environment. The prices were fair for the quality of food. I will definitely come here again and I recommend If you haven’t tried it. Check it out. Good place to have a party, with the Hibachi grill… Good entertainment and amazing food. Alcohol is served here from liquors to draft beers… And an amazing frozen margarita!!!

I think this place is trying to be all things to all people. There was a Chinese menu, a Japaneses menu, and a sushi menu. I went for the sushi. I got the cucumber roll and the house special roll. Cucumber rolls are typically a big favorite of mine. I was disappointed. The roll came soaked in some sort of a sauce/water. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great. The house roll was delicious though! The place also looks a little run down. Chipped tables, busted booths… Overall not a bad dinner, but I’ll try another place next time I’m in the area.

I’ve never eaten on the hibachi side, but we have been there for sushi numerous times & are never disappointed. They have some unique rolls along with the old stand-bys & they’re all amazing. Their food is great & service is even better.
