Tommy’s Red Hots No 2

Had better food flying economy class on Air Cambodia. A patty melt. Pretty simple. Normally, grilled onions on bread grilled on a flat top. Instead got raw onions on raw bread that was never grilled and crisped. Come on, Man!

This restaurant is awesome it’s a little bit of Chicago in the suburbs. I love Tommys been going there since they opened I usually get the two dog special. Filling and sometimes you have enough food for two meals for an excellent price.

Let’s just say, «my meat loved those buns»!

Tried this place for the first time tonite and it will be the only time I patronize Tommy’s.
I was misled by their menu as it said ‘we make our own Italian beef’. I knew right away with my 2^nd bite that this beef was made for them by a company like bari or devanco. It is a lie for them to say that they make their own. Anyone that has had a homeade beef sandwich knows what I mean. It is a nite and day difference. Much better beef can be found at Mr A’s down the street.
Also the cheese dog I got for my daughter was small … I am guessing a 10 – 1 hot dog meaning 10 to a pound. Better hot dog stands use an 8 – 1 hot dog. Using a 10 – 1 instead of an 8 – 1 would give them an extra 20 dogs per 10lb box. And therefore they make more $$ that way.
The gyros was a sloppy mess. I did not think they put on tzatziki sauce as it does not say it on the menu. But they really do put too much sauce on and it ruined the sandwich. If I knew they put it on I would have had them put it on the side.
No shakes on the menu? … that is odd!
Fries were the best thing I got and were very good. Could have been salted better, however.
NOT impressed with the quality of food and wouldn’t you know it … was overpriced to boot.
In my opinion, Tommy’s is average at best.
Take your business elsewhere and quit overpaying for mediocrity, Crystal lake!

Tommy’s is a Crystal Lake staple. It’s the best Tommy’s location I’ve been to. Great food, great service, great experience.

very decent hot dog joint with tons of other items on the menu. the only issue I have is when you order for delivery, phone will ring unanswered at times and after calling back twice I have given up and called elsewhere. just need better staffing. decent food at reasonable prices.

Its great. Only problem I had was I told then no ice and they put ice. And the cooks were not wearing gloves.

Today my man and I decided to grab some lunch at Tommy’s red hots crystal lake. We walked in and were greeted with a smirk and can I take your order. We ordered at the order here line then paid at the pick up line, and we went back to the order line thinking that was where we should pick up out food. Please note during this time we didn’t even notice the signs because they were way above our heads hanging from the ceiling like four feet up from our heads. So get this after we paid the snobby and sarcastic childlike manager: DAVE he rudely says OK what’s above your head? I was like excuse me, he shouted it says order HERE! The one down here says pickup here! Can’t you read?! My boyfriend and I looked at him like he was nuts and said oh we haven’t been here in years, sorry? He then laughed at us and joked about us to his crew and they all laughed in our faces! Plus to make matters even worse there were so many people in there and they were just shocked by this guy! As were my man and I. we just grabbed our food and ate there because we were starved. My boyfriend was eating and I was like can you believe that freak?! My man looked pissed… we ate the food which was blan and really greasy and fattening… and very over priced! Come on a hotdog and fry doesn’t come with a drink yet the wonderful and Clean Tommy’s in Woodstock does… they charged six bucks for one lousy hotdog and greasy fry with no drink? Ya know the one in Woodstock has a two hotdog special whatever you want on it and a fry and a drink for FIVE BUCKSthe crystal lake one is ripping people off! Nine bucks for a chicken gyro!!! So anyways my man got up and said I’m gonna tell that guy off, and GUESS what that wimpy chipmunk looking manager practically flew to the back, he hid… he should be fired! Who does he think he is Chef Gordon Ramsey… Hes basically Pee Wee Herman!!! Don’t go there… go to Woodstock!

Used Tommy’s for years and the delivery has always been on time and once in awhile even early. This night however was absolutely HORRIBLE. Ordered pizzas from them for the first time. Was told that they would be at my house within the hour. 1 hr and 20 min later the driver shows up after I called twice to find out where my order was, this was after I was told at the 1 hr mark of my first call that the driver had just left and should be there any minute. Unbelievable is all I have to say. My wife’s hotdog special was mildly warm and soggy, the two pizzas felt warmer when the driver handed them to me than they actually were when my family open the boxes to start digging in. I was going to cancel the entire order when the driver pulled up and the manager Tito said he would knock off a pizza off the bill and refund my card the one pizza. I an extremely disappointed in Tommy’s. The pizzas would of tasted SO much better if they were piping hot, I have heard good reviews of their pizza from relatives. I was told by Tito that the driver was overwhelmed with deliveries tonight. Well my solution would be to have one other employee help out the normal delivery driver. Unfortunately I ate the money on this one thinking, «Ok, it hasn’t been too long the food should still be hot, so I will not take the refund of the entire order I will take the discount.» You know the saying, «Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.»? Well Tommy’s you won’t get to fool me twice. And I felt bad not leaving a tip for the driver, I usually tip them very well every time. If the owner of Tommy’s reads these, I’m sorry but your menu is going into the garbage and I will never use you guys or patron in any of your restaurants again. It’s a shame your REAL gyros are the best around the Crystal Lake area. I’m giving you 2 stars because of the past service and I stress past. I should of listened to my wife and just canceled the entire order even though the driver was in my driveway, but my hunger and the hunger of my family overrode my better judgement. Bye Tommy’s.

Hot dog needs help. First you need a steamed poppy seed bun, the bun was to big for the hotdog. The hot dog was very small, I guess I should have gotten a double dog. Need to get the bright green Vienna relish. Mustard, pickle, sport pepper optional. Top with celery salt. I woul say for starters the bun that they are using might be good for a polish or Italian but not a hotdog. Trust me, old school from Chicago when you had the guy on the street corner selling dogs.

Tommy’s is always awesome… Burgers, Beef, Gyros, Tommy’s special… my fave right now is the Cajun chicken on a pita with ranch instead of mayo!

Possibly the worst gyro I ever had in my life, sloppy, messy, insanely greasy, and no napkins! In my to go bag. This place has gone to hell… it used to be fairly decent… pizza looked old as hell too… like it’s been sitting there for 3 days… very over priced too… fair warning.

Great place if you’re looking for a big selection, fast service and good prices. It’s a dinner so don’t look for gourmet food. Not a fan of the pizza but most everything else I have had is good. I probably like the gyros best and just had the shrimp plate special and to my surprise it was pretty good. They also deliver and are probably the fastest in town. Faster than Freaky Fast.

Food is a great price and if you like greasy food this is your place not always a bad thing but the service wasn’t as friendly as the one in algonquin I went in and they were fast to get the food out so that is a plus! But fast isn’t really all you need.

I don’t know why I come back to this place. I think I went here today because my normal pizza place is closed on Tuesdays. I got a slice of pepperoni, fries and a drink for $ 5.50. The pizza was hard, greasy, had the consistency of cardboard and had probably been sitting for several hours. The fries are easily the best thing at Tommy’s. They are always Fresh out of the fryer and will burn your mouth. Refills on soda for only $.25 and they take the $.25 and put it in the donation container for multiple sclerosis. So props Tommy’s for that. They finally accept credit cards… Visa and MasterCard only. There is certainly better food in the area. But if you happen to get a flat tire in the parking lot, this would be an okay place to eat.

You can’t beat the Chicago area for having such diverse food. Tommy’s is a semi-​fast food type restaurant with quick but interesting food. The Gyros are delicious but they also have a wide variety of other food to choose from like burgers, ribs, and dogs. What is a plus is that their prices are the same if not slightly lower than chains like Burger King and McDonald but the quality is much better. The only drawback to this location is the interior does not make for the best in restaurant dining. Do not waste your money on fast food chains if you live in this area.

Solid joint with a very diverse menu. Finished my third trip there this week and dig the Gyros. Not the best I’ve had but very good. This last time, they put Tzatziki Sauce on without my asking. If I read the menu correctly, you have to ask for Tzatziki. So I just said no tomato no onion… they put the sauce on anyway. Since the taste of cucumber is vile to me I just couldn’t force myself to eat it.
Recalling the French Toast Scene from «Road Trip», I was hesitant to send it back. But the guys happily corrected it for me. Good customer service.
I’ve notice the regulars here are really friendly with the staff, that’s a good sign.

I love this joint. One of the best things about it, is how quick the delivery is.
My wife orders the gyro special and I get the every day special (2hot dogs, fries, and soda). The have great prices.

The cost for the two dogs, fries & drink special has gone up… $ 6 after tax. Still good stuff though. It’s a lot of food for the price really. They’ve taken out a couple of the parking spots out front and put in some outdoor tables… nice.

Their Gyros are lacking, dogs aren’t that good and the pizza is NY style.
I always find their buns to be hard on the edges and they make the dogs so fast that they tend to miss with the topping or don’t put enough on. The service has gotten old to me… I used to appreciate their snobbyness, as though it was their schtick, but it now is just annoying.
I think you’d be better off spending your hard earned dollars at Portillo’s, Dante’s or Kojak’s…but that’s just me.
