Summers Academy of Dance has been offering superior dance training in a positive and professional environment since 1996. We offer classes for the child, teen, or adult recreational dancer who enjoys dancing once or twice a week as a creative, fun, and physical outlet. If you are looking for a more disciplined program with more hours of training, we also offer award-​winning competition teams (the Starr Dancers and the Summers Dance Crew) and a pre-​professional ballet company (The Berkshire Ballet Theatre). Our mission is to assist students in developing scholastic aptitude and excelling in life by providing excellent education through various forms of dance and performing arts. Whether you are simply seeking to experience the joy of dance for personal accomplishment or you are seeking a professional career; we can give you the training and the outlet that you need to experience the joy of dancing. Open Monday-​Saturday, and Sunday: Dance Birthday Parties (afternoon reservations required) — call for additional info!

History

Established in 1996.

The doors of the Summers Academy of Dance opened in 1996 on Berkshire Drive in Crystal Lake. Since that first day dancers from 18 months old to adults; beginners to professionals have come through our doors to train with our outstanding faculty and experience the joy of dancing.

Our Mission: To assist students in developing scholastic aptitude and excel in life by providing excellent education through various forms of dance and performing arts.

At the Summers Academy of Dance you can find classes for the child, teen, or adult recreational dancer who enjoys dancing once or twice a week for the creative, fun, and physical outlet. If you are looking for a more disciplined, program with more hours of training we offer award– winning competition teams, and a pre-​professional ballet company.

Business Owner

Vicki Summers is the Executive Director of the Summers Academy of Dance, the Berkshire Ballet Theater Company, and the Starr Dancers as well as a Faculty Advisor at Harper College for the Pom, Spirit and Dance Teams.

Vicki is proud of the many dancers who have trained with the school to dance professionally all around the world.

As Foundation Board Member of the Crystal Lake Chamber, Vicki has been a proud supporter of business and civic activities in Crystal Lake.

An outstanding dance studio for children and adults. The studio offers a wide variety of styles and competition opportunities. The students receive top quality instruction from passionate and talented instructors. Additionally, Dance Company students are given the opportunity to perform alongside professional guest artists during the year.
Overall, my daughter’s experiences with the studio over the course of the last 6 years have helped her develop into a well-​rounded, confident, disciplined individual. She has made many great friends and considers it her home away from home. I would highly recommend Summers Academy of Dance to anyone interested in having their child grow as a dancer.

More than just dance! Both of my children started dance as toddlers at Summers Academy. While one of them moved to another sport, my youngest has now been dancing for 12 years and she isn’t even in high school yet! Not only are the dancers trained professionally, they are encouraged to serve their community. As members of the dance company, dancers gain skill, grace, time management, confidence, and pride, as well as become contributing members of their local community. If your child wants to dance — REALLY dance, not just learn a routine to perform, Summers is the place. Whether your child is interested in an instructional program or is looking for the challenge of dance company, there is something at Summers to suit your needs. Amazing new studio on Route 14 in Crystal Lake, definitely worth stopping in and checking it out! You can’t go wrong — amazing instructors, safe environment, wonderful parents, and dancers who support each other and form lifelong bonds. Simply the best studio around!

As far as dancing instruction if you want your child to do well in ballet and jazz this is a great studio for instruction they are serious about dance and their instructors are great. This is not a studio to do arts and crafts and a bit of dance, this is a studio for dance training. Hip-​Hop and Poms competition this is not the studio for your child… there are others in the area that are better.
The owner is a complete #&%@$, we came from another competing studio to inquire about classes, the owner came out and started ripping on the studio we came from, made my daughter do some jazz and ballet moves in flip flops (hello ankle injury waiting to happen) in the lobby in front of a bunch of random people, and proceeded to tell her how awful she was and it was our current studios fault. Well, of course we know she needed improvement that is why my daughter was there was for more instruction, but she didn’t need to be treated like she was a mutant from «the other studio». Owner needs to get off her high horse and realize she is not Abby Lee Miller from Dance Moms, that her studio for the longest time was in a rundown strip mall next to a 7 – 11, now near an animal shelter, in Crystal Lake… not a fabulous world renowned studio… and the students she puts down are the children of the parents that write her the checks that keep her business going.
If it wasn’t for my neighbor having such a good dance experience, after our inquiry visit run in with the owner we would have never set foot in a class. So 4 stars for dance instruction, 1 star for having to deal with the owner.

Just great! The teachers are friendly and nice, perfect for my two girls. They have learned so much in such a short time, and we really feel part of the family. I really enjoy is being able to watch my children in class thru large windows, which was not available at the other studios I checked out. I look forward to their dance recital and being part of this studio for many years to come.
