Good food when its open, but the owners just randomly shut it down for the season before I could cash in any coupons or do anything… It is crappy random events like this, that business owners think is ok to do up here, this why I will be moving soon… When you can’t even keep your seasonal businesses open for the season it’s a pretty good indication the town is dying off…

For many years this has simply been called«Sommers Sausage» and looked like a rather run-down building. After receiving a facelift and a more appealing name, it compelled us to try it. Sommers main business is selling sliced deli meats and making sandwiches. They sell deli sandwiches in 3-, 6-, 9-, and 12-inch lengths. Let’s just say for comparison, a 6-inch sub at Sommers goes for about $ 4 but packs a lot more meat and stuff than a similar Subway sandwich, though the price is not that different. Clearly this place is the better one in that respect. On the downside, they have no sandwich production line like Subway, so each one is hand-crafted in back, the individual meats sliced as needed to complete each sandwich. That means a longer wait but a superb finished product rather than a mess of loose lettuce stuffed into some bread like I’ve grown accustomed with fast-food subs. They have a few dining tables though take-out is what most people do. And they have a pathetic-looking wooden picnic table outside their shop surrounded by metal framework that once may have been a covered tent area. The wall next to the table reads«Sommers» in a graffiti style that really looks ghetto-ish and out of place for the quiet UP town of Crystal Falls. I won’t go there and won’t hold it against them either since I’ve never seen anyone eating at that table outside. Finally, let’s talk about their ice cream. They got 26 flavors of Jilbert’s. A single scoop in a cone is $ 1.13, by far the best deal around in the area. The 5 of us got cones for around $ 7 total, so it’s an awesome deal that no chain ice cream shop can beat.
