Deep River Waterpark

To bad this place has become the disney land of hobart. Way too Dark and way too crowded. Everything smells like piss. There is no relaxing, you can’t enjoy any rides because your packed in like sardines, just a bad place to go if your not 16 and want to walk around with you boobs and cock out. If your looking to be over run with tiny children with no supervision or you enjoy disrespectful, entitled, uneducated trash this is definitely the place for you!

To say we had so much fun is an Understatement!!! My 12 year old son had been wanting to go to Deep River Water park for a while, so when I found out about the «2 for the price of 1» special they were having for for Memorial Day weekend, I decided this would be perfect opportunity for us to check it out. The fact that it was not a far drive from Chicago made it even better. First off, I LOVED the fact that they had free parking, we even got a parking spot near the entrance. Next, the staff was so courteous and helpful, I am very big on customer service, so I was impressed with every single staff member I came in contact with. Next the lines were not ridiculously long to get on the water rides. It made our experience even better because we didn’t get restless waiting for our turn. Next, I really liked the fact that you can bring your own food and drinks if you want, they even have numerous picnic tables throughout the property so its not a problem to find somewhere to set up your table. The fact that the lockers were affordable and they were in a convenient area, was an added bonus. I really enjoyed myself and I look forward to coming back this summer.

Went ice skating here on 2÷7÷16, arrived about 1pm and paid $ 32 for ice skating and rental. Once we walked out to the rink we realized that the whole thing was a combination of puddles and slushy areas. We stuck it out for a while assuming that it would be resurfaced at some point. Finally asked a worker and she said no it would not be resurfaced. It was incredibly hard to skate on and awful when you would fall into a puddle.

A very fun place to spend a hot summer day. Some things were a little more crowded than others but hey that is to be expected. It was a family friendly place and a great time was had by all!

I was afraid there wouldn’t be much for my 1 and 3 year old to do but luckily I was wrong. They have 2 different kiddie play areas which were both great the water wasn’t too cold either. Me and my husband were also able to take them into the wave pool which my 3 year old loved and my 1 year old was plenty entertained just hanging in the shallow end. Then there was the lazy river which we all really enjoyed and the water temp was perfect for us cool enough to keep us refreshed in 85 degree weather but not freezing. All in all it was a pretty decent place. My only thing was that they charge a little much for kids it could at least be 5 years and under half price or something considering they are too small to go on slides. The bathrooms could use some updating and the only real downfall was the food court. I waited in line for over a half an hour and there was literally only 6 or 7 people in front of me. After ordering I waited another 15 minutes. It was a sunday around noon and only one guy was working a register while there was about 6 other staff members in the back half slowly working and half moping around sipping on drinks. It’s a shame because the food was actually decently priced. They just need to figure out a better system because for a sunday afternoon it sucked! Next time I will bring my own food and then I won’t have any complaints.

I would recommend this to any family, that wants to have good time, in Northwest Indiana.

We went here while visiting friends on a vacation in the summer. The park seemed clean (except the bathrooms!!!) and safety procedures were followed fairly well. However, the staff was kind of… rude. They were condescending and treated everyone as if they were a child.

Love it! Lots of seating, you can bring in your own food and drink and loads of slides and pools :)

Editing my review to remove a star based on the condescending response from Deep River (review remains the same). Never once in my review did I say I was unhappy for not getting in for FREE. My review stated I didn’t «think» I would be back but now, based on the response I received, I know I won’t be back.

OK, maybe I had rose-​colored glasses on during my last visit. We visited again this weekend and it was a so-​so experience at best.
I don’t know if the prices went up or if I had a coupon last year but for 2 adults it was $ 50. Yeah, parking is free but $ 50 for a park that has minimal things to do is a hard pill to swallow. 2 sets of slides, one wave pool (that is always jammed packed), 2 lazy rivers (1 of which had ice cube water) and a child area seems more like a $ 12.99 ticket price. It seems there is a LOT of wasted space/​open areas. Not sure if they plan on expending or filling those up. Also, we inquired about the military promo but wasn’t given it because my husband is a veteran… geesh…at least offer some type of discount for a veteran (you don’t even have to extend it to family but having a promo for active only is insulting). Getting the snotty response from the guy in the ticket booth wasn’t that nice either.
There was one lazy river that we couldn’t even go in because the water was beyond freezing cold. People were dipping their toes in and walking away. Needless to say, it was empty. The other lazy river by the entrance was still cold but more tolerable.
Needless to say, I don’t think we will make the drive back to Deep River Waterpark as the ticket price isn’t worth it.

I read reviews before going and was a little nervous about the experience. We went on a rainy Thursday and it was not crowded at all! We arrived around 10am and until about 2pm felt as if we had the place to ourselves. I found the workers to all be extremely pleasant from the ticket sellers to the slide guards. I found the park to be clean. My only fault with the day was that we shlepped to the lockers toward the back of the park to find that you need to pay and get a key for your locker right as you come in the park. Not a huge deal but something I wouldn’t have minded knowing before the walk. It’s a little pricey but it did entertain us all day.

So much fun! Go early to beat the crowds and claim a spot in the shade :) Great place for families and kids of all ages, our 5 year old loved it!

Deep river brings me tons of childhood memories.
My family and I use to come here a lot every summer. Now, I can’t remember the last time I was here.
I have to say, nothing has really changed. Free parking, B.Y.O.F., same old’ water rides, lifeguards are always looking out and doing a phenomenal job.
Best of all, admission price is still very accessible. This «small hidden gem» will always hold a special place in my memories. =)

Came here on Father’s Day to avoid the crowd (too bad Dad was out of town, but that’s not really his thing anyways). It was a good time! Decent variety of slides. Both of the lazy rivers were fun but somewhat redundant… but I’m not sure how much those can vary. I’d add more jokes I think.
The mega slides look cool, but will leave you w/​skid marks down your back. Not from «scared the crap out of me fear» rather, not enough water to keep your skin from screeching against the plastic of the slide. However, it’s a good way to tell who’s a wuss and who isn’t. No mark = judged! HA!

I don’t really like fun. What most people think of as «fun» to me usually means being surrounded by gawking, slack-​jawed grins and rude people who don’t mind being rude because «we’re having fun and no one else matters.» Fun often involves too much sun, at least one gargantuan inconvenience, and the inability to nap as desired. Fun usually means base, dumb entertainment or easy impressiveness along the lines of «HOOOOEEEEE EXPLOSION SPLASH RAAAAWK DUH DUH DUH!»
With that in mind, I resisted going to Deep River Waterpark. I had no desire to stand in line for an hour, getting my brain baked until I drooled out exclamations about big splashes, only to spend 15 seconds shutting my eyes and waiting to splash.
As it turns out, it wasn’t that bad (I might even be so nice as to let them use that as their slogan «not that bad»). I spent most of my time going around and around and around something called «The Lazy River.» Sure, it had a few rowdy kids who didn’t get the concept of «LAZY» the way some of us embraced the term, but it turned out to be quite relaxing and, well, fun.

Ok I know reviews are suppose to reflect the actual business but I didn’t like the people that this place attracts. We got to the park at the opening and for a few hours it was ok. But at 3pm swarms of people started coming and we realized it was because of the reduced admission price. People were too busy lounging around instead of taking care of their rude obnoxious kids. This kid kept pushing my kid down the water slide and the «life guard» never said anything. I just made my kid leave the kid area to avoid this annoying kid with no manners. They also let teenage kids horse around in the kid area which annoyed me because my 4 year old couldn’t play without getting hit by one of them. The bathrooms were absolutely atrocious and don’t get me started on the shower area! I guess it’s better than what is in the Chicago area but the staff can definitely do better.

We spent all day at Deep River and enjoyed ourselves immensely. We were a group of 8 that ranged in age from 7 – 55 and we all had a great time. Between the various slides, the lazy river, the wave pool, and the lounge chairs, there was plenty to entertain us all.
The Monday discount was $ 5 off for two cans of food per person, which helped our total admission price by a good amount. You can also take in coolers, so we packed drinks and snacks and even stopped for Subway subs to take in. That also helped make it an affordable day for everyone!
The slides were all really fun and good for all ages. There were plenty of tubes to use, although many of them had mold on them (yuck). I thought the park was kept clean and all the lifeguards were very attentive.
We stayed for about 6 hours and were totally wiped out. Great way to spend a full day for sure!
Also, be sure to stop at Albanese Candy Factory when you leave. Deep River closes at 6 and Albanese is open until 8 and is only a few minutes down the road. You’ll love having a nice bag of candy for the ride home!

I’ve always threw BBQs for my birthday, but I wanted something different and outdoors this year so I decided to try out this water park since it’s suppose to be pretty good. My first surprise was that I got a free entry since we had a group special with 15+ people. I wasn’t told so it took me by surprise. Awesome.
I had a really good time overall and my favorite was the Dragon Ride with the steep fall, mind you i was screaming like a little girl! The rides were fairly good, however I thought there would be more since the park itself was so big, but it was just a lot of waste of space. And the ride where you get shoot into a bowl and end up in the lazy river is very secluded from the rest of the park.
The food is the typical amusement park food, but the best was we ordered way too much pizza and the workers said they will keep our food at the counter, but we just had to picked it up before it closed, which was awesome because I didn’t want our food sitting out in the sun and spoiling. When I went to pick up the pizza it was nice and warm because they left it inside the pizza warmer. Sweet.
What I wasn’t a big fan of is there were no height or weight limit for some of these rides and these little kids are riding by themselves and it’s so dangerous! On the Dragon ride this little boy went down the steepest ride and OMG I thought he was going to fly out because he didn’t keep his arms and leg cross and it made it look like he could just fall out of there! Than on another ride a boy coming down a tube ride got out of his tube, but the water was still too steep for him and he was struggling to get out and luckily my brother was right there and helped him. I hope they come up with new guidelines soon.

Spent the day here today with my sister, mom, and nephews! Honestly, I was a little hesitant about coming here since the last time I was here I was 13 or 14, and considering I thought Deep River Water Park was the coolest place ever at that age, I had the pre-​concieved notion that I would think this place was going to be completely tacky now that I’m in my 20’s!
I’m happy to report that I was completely wrong! Extremely clean facilities and pools (except for Lazy River… it’s not «dirty» as one reviewer called it but it’s full of leaves and dead bugs from the surrounding gardens. yuck!)! The place still looks relatively new. And I loved that the lifeguards were so chilled-​out lifeguards… there’s nothing worse than over-​zealous lifeguards!
Their slides are pretty cool, the lines move pretty fast, and wave pool is still awesome. Although, I have to say that now, the slides seemed a little smaller to me and the wave pool wasn’t as «hard core» as I remembered it. I guess that it’s just comes with age because my nephews loved it and everything their had this amazing «WOW» factor to them (they’re 11 and 9)!
Overall, great place to cool off on a hot summer day, kids in tow or not. For free parking and being able to bring in your own food and drinks, you can’t really go wrong!
Ladies: be advised, their shower water in the locker rooms was ICE COLD! And their are no shower curtains or mirrors. Don’t know why this is!
p. s. they also have a two really big beach volleyball courts! Bring your volleyballs if you wanna play and if you’re with a big group! :)

«Nobody makes you wetter»… at Deep River Waterpark
Yes, that is the slogan of Deep River Waterpark. Weird, right?!
Sexual slogans aside, this waterpark is so much fun! It is about 1 hours drive from Chicago, so a quick drive for a «splash-​tastic time!»
There was maybe 13 or 15 water slides, an action river, a lazy river (that was dirty, hence 4 stars), wave pool, kids area, etc.
The only slide I would NOT recommend was «The Dragon» which is a body slide that looks way more fun that it really is. The Dragon is a nearly vertical drop on a body slide, but all of us came off the slide with practically 2^nd degree burns on our backs. (And HUGE swim suit wedgies!)
Also should mention: free parking, BYOT (bring your own towel), can bring in coolers, which I would recommend because the concessions are pretty crappy and typically of an amusement park. (cold fries, nachos, etc)
Deep River is a lot of fun. My friends and I were clearly the only ones there in our 20’s without children, but we didn’t care. Admission (with coupon we brought from the website
) was $ 15.
Not bad for a day trip excursion on a beautiful day… if only we didn’t have to drive through Gary, IN to get there.
