Elite Event at Catfish

Sooo Late on this but I went out of town right after this great event!
I like this place and I go past there all of time, its right in my hood. Very warm and inviting place all the staff seemed very friendly and cool which was refreshing after my work day.
The event was for Movember and most of the elite members who came join in with the wearing of great mustaches, beards, chops and soul patches. This was great fun and laughs!!!
The food was good especially the rice balls and I also enjoyed the devil eggs a little heavy on the mustard for me but still tastey. Of course the drinks were tastey and potent which I like!!!
I will be back and great event Peter!!!

Peter introduced me to some Unilocalers, with whom I had the opportunity to chat having good beer and good finger food, very well made by the staff of Catfish. Just say the cake was super…
The restaurant/​bar itself that hosted our night is very warm, beautiful, relaxing, as well as the patio on the back, lit with the kind of lights that create lots of athmosphere; there a super friendly little cat greeted us and gave us the honor of cuddling him… cute.
Unfortunately catfish is not close to my place, and it’s a little bit out of my way; if it wasn’t for that I would surely return often.
Thanks Peter and all of the Unilocalers that made me feel part of the Brooklyn team also if I was new.
Can’t wait for the next event!

Wow! Aren’t we a lucky bunch?! I feel so fortunate to be part of this Unilocal elite fam! Tuesday was no exception! Unfortunately my husband had to work last minute and he was unable to attend. However, I love Catfish and did not want to miss the event. Catfish is known for it’s New Orleans style food and drinks! And I love New Orleans. And this event was extra special since, proceeds would go to Movember. Drinking and eating for a good cause is always a win win in my book.
I arrived early in the area and moseyed to the event a little after 7. I got my ticket scanned and I happened to bring my own mustache. Which was smart on my part since, most of the good ones were snatched up. The place was packed with excited Unilocalers and their guests. The batenders did an amazing job of keeping calm and the quality of the cocktails were spot on. The cocktail options were Hurricanes and Sazeracs! THe Hurricane was a fruity and delicious. The kinda drink that taste so good but might catch you by surprise. I had to switch it up to the Sazerac. I love a nice strong, short cocktail in the crisp fall weather.
The apps were continually being passed around. There was creamy deviled eggs and fluffy cornbread. My favorite was the grape and goat cheese stuffed mushroom! A balance of creamy, crisp and savory. I might have to try to make these babies at home.
And as always I met some cool peeps, ate some delicious food and drank some incredible cocktails!

Second time is definitely a charm! I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Catfish on Tuesday.
The food was plentiful and delicious. My favorites were the boudin balls with that delectable, slightly spicy sauce and the mushrooms with warm grape and cheese. Yum! The Andouille sausage on toast with spicy mustard hit the spot, and the warm corn bread with honey butter was quite tasty. The deviled eggs were pretty good too.
As for the drinks, I sampled the Hurricane– delicious, not too sweet, and surprisingly potent!– and the Sazerac, which was even better than the Hurricane. Needless to say, I left tipsy and full.
The mustaches were a fun touch. I initially attempted done whiskers to go with my purple lipstick, but they didn’t quite workout.
I will definitely be back to Catfish for some boudin balls and drinks.

I can’t believe I had never been to catfish before Tuesday’s event. This in itself is a crime, but not the only one I committed last Tuesday. Well Unilocal crime anyway. We happened to be double booked via a last minute invite to Ruggy’s event at Havana Central. Working up on 168^th street and the fact that the first event was from 6 – 8 /​«on the way» to Brooklyn, and that the second event was from 7 – 9 and «not that far from the first event», we made the awful assumption that we could easily do both. Rookie move. It was fantastic meeting up with some of my favorite Manhattan elite friends for some Cuban, and as per usual Ruggy had a great thing going on; but I couldn’t help but feeling rushed the entire time. We left Havana around seven and had an uncomfortably long ride on the 2line to our home borough, only to find an event so cool, I couldn’t help but yearn for the lost minutes and seconds I spent crammed on the train like some half buzzed sardine stuffed into an overly full can. I won’t be doing anything like this again — great in theory, awful in execution.
Huge shout out to the guys at Catfish, they really nailed this event. The place was geared up perfectly for a night like this; we walked in (…late) to find a rustic looking bar PACKED with Unilocalers. After a quick hello to our fearless leader, we made our way to the bar (obviously) and found what had to have been the most fun drink line up at a Unilocal event this year. We were graciously handed Hurricanes (so good, and so strong), and some seriously well-​made Sazorac’s. But there was more than just the two mixed drinks, they had beer for us! And not just any old brew, the fine folks at Catfish had Abita Purple Haze on tap for us (as well as an awesome IPA and a light beer). I love when YEE’s let us sample beer; it may fill you up but you can have a few drinks without the room spinning around. The bites that were offered up were simple, and incredibly tasty. They had sausage on crusty bread, a mushroom Veronique that was absolutely delicious, and devilled eggs that were out of this world good.
We spent the majority of our evening in the nicely laid out back yard; if there is an outdoor space at an event I always seem to gravitate towards it. We had a great time out there, good company and drinks that kept flowing. The local alley cat came to say Hi, and quickly became the focal point of our conversation. Dunno why we got such a kick out of the cat at Catfish, but it made for some funny conversation. The best thing about being in the back was that we got a real feel of how this place operates. If you’ve been to a few YEE’s you realize that the food goes fast (Like if you are more than three feet from the kitchen the empanadas are gone fast), but not here. I was SHOCKED that the guys brought us food out there, and not just once or twice. By the end of the event, we were actually saying «no thanks» to the food offerings, this has NEVER happened to me at a Brooklyn event before; I was unbelievably impressed with the service.
So happy that we got introduced to this place, huge shout out to Peter D for continually expanding our Brooklyn horizons with amazing places like Catfish.

remember when the first thought of Catfish was a fish with a ‘stache??? not the humiliation of a «virtual» Tinder/​Grindr/​Match/​eHarmony/​etc. date reveal that’s gone completely off a cliff aka you’ve been chatting with a mental patient with internet access or a feisty 89-​yr-​old shut-​in. :shudder:
any/​s/​way. hiked over from the Franklin Avenue stop. amazing to see how much this neighborhood continues to change. saw the reddish neon glow of CATFISH, met +1 future Elite Jeff «Tall4AnAsian» K. and we rolled into this joint, checked in, snagged a fake ‘stache (didn’t wear it. i know… booo/hisss…always the villain), and made my way further into the NOLA-​inspired space.
encountered a barrage of passed appetizers via the friendly hardworking staff.

the space is cool ‘n’ casual with the right amount of NOLA w/​o becoming kitsch or gimmicky. a good amount of seating at the bar and tables to straaaatch out at. the patio space with tables, benches and lighting was a cooling escape from the crowd of UnilocalERS who heated up the joint. the outside area also had a neighbor’s cat who kept jumping from fence to table to table as people as folks awed and adored it, except for Chuck C and me who felt that the cat was a jerk. Erin P. protected it from Chuck’s and my machinations or that fiendlion would be having 8 lives ‘stead o’ 9 YO! (JUST JOKES people – no need to call PETA!)!
staff was aces & super friendly – from bartenders to those passing food. kudos and much appreciation to Peter D. and Team Unilocal for putting together another great event for a great cause! YESSSS!!!
and last but not least, it’s always nice connecting profiles, compliments, and insane YT threads to the actual people who are behind them. another outing where i got to connect with the real life versions of folks and not their «catfishing versions» LOL… and meet some new folks as well. still not sure why some folks clique out, but whatevz highschoolers. ((another gentle reminder: do not camp at the bar like it’s your backyard or a national park YO! crowds the drank area for no reason. grab yo drink and move.)) had a hilariously fun night at Catfish and hope to visit this chill establishment again for shenanigans ‘n’ laughs ‘n’ eats ‘n’ dranks.

As Usual Peter D. did not disappoint!
The Brooklyn Elite event at Catfish was great! Definitely a little cute spot with a backyard. I decided to stick by the bar because this place was packed with lovely fellow elites. The drink specials of the night were delicious! The Hurricane and the Sazorac. Both quite an interesting blend of flavor and alcohol mixed together and surprisingly strong! The bartenders were on point making drinks like machines! The appetizers were delicious as well. My favorite was the Mushroom Veronique which was delicious warm cheese on a grape in a mushroom, so good! Also the Boudin Ball (not sure what was in it but so good) along with the side sauce served with it. I would definitely come back to this spot in the future I had a blast as usual. I Love Brooklyn Elite!

For the second time an event at Catfish is the cat’s meow, the cat’s pajamas or any other saying that involves cats in a positive way. Meow.
The event had nothing to do with cats though (I’m grateful, I don’t think they taste that good), what the event did have was awesomeness, amazing food, fantastic drinks and plentiful moustaches.
Upon arrival I saw many of the usual Unilocal folk. I had a feeling everyone knew this was going to be a wonderful night. The last time they hosted an event they went all out. As it turns out, they didn’t disappoint.
My new roommate had to endure me coming up and demanding we watch Homeland at 10 pm, only to see me pass out after ten minutes due to how much alcohol this event had. Sazeracs and Hurricanes coming out like crazy. These are not easy drinks to make. They require time and effort. Somehow, someway, the bar managed to keep people from waiting too long and was able to make great concoctions at the same time. Tremendous job.
The staff that came around with food would not quit. They had people turning down food, left and right by the end of the night. I didn’t want to keep eating those deviled eggs, but I had too. They were unbelievable. Just the right amount of parprika went a long way. The best dish of the night were the boudin balls. I’ve had them before, but these were the best I ever had. they packed some serious Cajun flavor. The stuffed mushrooms with a Cajun twist were new for me. I really enjoyed them.
In the end, I got exactly what I expected. One of the best Unilocal events of the year. Top 10 for sure, just like last year’s. Thank you so much to the Catfish staff. And thank you Peter D for setting up this amazing event again.

The Catfish restaurant was the venue. Its relatively easy to get to, located a few blocks from the S train, Park Pl. stop.
The restaurant has a pretty cool vibe to it. As you walk in, there’s a bar to your right and tables to your left. Straight ahead and to the back, there’s an outdoor patio complete with park benches and seats. Servers were walking around the restaurant floor with light bites. Two of my favorites were the andouille sausage on brioche toast and the cornbread with vanilla cinnamon honey butter.
This event was pretty crowded, both at the bar and throughout the restaurant. At the bar, I tried two of the recommended drinks, the sazerac and the abita light beer. The sazerac was strong, but interesting and the abita light beer went down smooth. I did want to try the hurricane, but by the time I got around to the third drink, it was cash bar, so I passed.
The servers and the bartenders did a great job and were very friendly throughout the event. It was great meeting new people and seeing people I have only interacted with online.

I’m officially convinced that every day should be like Tuesday. A fun, cross-​dressing friendly party where I actually learned something fascinating. The joys of being a man. Well the joys of being a man with a full, overlapping-​your-​upper-​lip handlebar mustache.

First time for me attending an Elite event at the same place for the second time; if the first YEE at Catfish in June 2013 was great, this one was a freakin’ awesome party!
Catfish is a great neighborhood spot with a fantastic beer selection, and equally amazing whiskey selection, and perhaps the best Cajun food you can get in the County of Kings.
Being a beer lover, I stuck with Abita; Purple Haze is an old friend of mine, and IPA is my favorite type of beer, so I felt at home right from the start, and not just because Crown Heights is where my home is.
Food-​wise, the stuffed mushrooms Véronique were delicious, just as much as the decadent Deviled Eggs, and the Andouille sausage crostini. But the Boudin Balls were the real winner for me, particularly with that deliciously spicy sauce!
A big BIG thank you to Maxx, Luke, Aaron and the rest of the amazing staff at Catfish: friendly, enthusiastic, accommodating, and really fun people to interact with. That’s what makes Catfish such a great place to hang out, and what made this evening one to remember.
Also thanks to Peter D. and all the people who donated to Movember; we raised $ 300 for a great cause, and that’s just awesome. Plus, I got to experience first hand what must be feel like to be Tom Selleck for an evening, facial hair-​wise.

I feel so fortunate to have been able to come to a second event at Catfish, they are the Elite Event experts at this point! I live in the neighborhood, so this is one great example of an Elite Event introducing me to a spot I now return to again and again.
The staff at Catfish are among the most on point, friendly folks ever to host us, big round of applause please! This was a truly rare night where I got a bite of absolutely everything they brought out of the kitchen and didn’t feel like I had to stab fingers with a fork to do so. The big beautiful space and free flowing apps allowed everyone, I’d conjecture to guess, to just relax and know everything was gonna be a-​okay. Speaking of more than a-​okay, the bar! Its true, it does take a hot minute of doing the ants in your pants dance to get a drink, but that’s because they’re making you beautiful fancy things! Beauty takes time folks, its the truth. Those hurricanes have got to be the best ones north of the Mason Dixon, NOLA would be proud!

Things I Learned At Catfish :
— Peter D. has the coolest job in New York.
— There are other cool-​ass RNs out there who can’t make it to all Elite events
— There’s something called a Sazerac and it’s America’s first cocktail. It’s also pretty damn good. Additionally, it’s not a ’ Tesseract’, from geometry or Marvel Universe fame. Learned that the hard way.
— There’s an awesome cat that occasionally hops down from the fence, sluts out for about ten minutes, then disappears into the shadows. It’s a girl. I checked.
Overall, great event. I RSVP to whichever events I *think* I can make it out to, but sometimes work gets in the way. Luckily, that was not the case last night. Friendly crowd, great staff and no shortage of appetizers passed around. Considering I had already been coming from a bar in Ditmas Park after watching the Liverpool/​Real Madrid match, I wasn’t in the market to go heavy on drinks but I tried a few of what they were pouring at the bar and the Abita IPA and Pecan Ale were definitely worth ordering again in the future. Something cool worth noting; a girl lost her phone at the event and I was on the bathroom line when someone had gotten it back to her in pretty much no time. That’s how you know you have a solid group of people.
I intend to return to Catfish sooner than later, as it had a pretty cool vibe and some refreshing dishes to try; it’s also right near a bar I like to visit, so there’s no reason not to give it an honest effort.

My drink of choice was the hurricane… made me feel like I was on a sunny beach instead of BK. The cornb6reaf and deviled eggs took me back to my family reunion in NC.
The staff were very accommodating and super friendly they kept drinks and bites coming. Shout out to the bartenders who worked their butts off and churned out those amazing drinks. I know it can be a bit much when you have an open bar but they seemed to be completely unfazed. Lol!
I’ve been to brunch before but I’m excited about coming for dinner and being reunited with those deviled eggs!

No cat (save for my use of the complimentary stick-​on cat whiskers repurposed as cat eye liquid liner/​lash extensions); no fish (save for Matteo R., reviewer of all swimming pools and watering holes in King’s County and native of Venice and Sardinia); no «Jill M.,» Unilocal’s most famous Catfish before the phenomenon, «catfishing,» was given a name, movie, MTV show, or MSM press.
An abundance of: cool people, OGs and newcomers alike; strong, smooth Hurricanes and Sazeracs complimentarily provided by the energetic staff of Catfish, Purple Haze and other varieties of Abita® beer; delicious bites of Boudin Balls, stuffed mushrooms «Véronique,» and Andouille sausage bruschetta; my personal favorite new item of Unilocal swag: hand sanitizer clad in a beer cozy with an attached keychain, arguably the most useful and public health-​conscious form of Unilocal swag ever; and, most importantly, Mo money fo MOvember.
