I’ve been here dozen’s of times over the years for coffee/tea to go, egg and bacon sandwich etc. and its always good. Checkout the blackboard for some cool specials. Good place to meet a friend for lunch.

Hands down the best breakfasts. And more importantly the best breakfast ribeye steak and potatoes. Good cut of beef.

Hands down, my most favorite place to eat EVER. No matter what you pick, I can assure you it will be delicious! I think the Cromwell location is 100% better than the rocky hill one!

This is a good breakfast spot. I’ve been here three times now. And I haven’t had bad service or plate. Staff is always on point waitresses handle complaints professionally. I’m never let down. And it’s only five minutes from the Cromwell diner and this place is sooo much better. I just feel welcomed here and food is consistent. So come here for a great meal to start your day

It’s good. Just good. The corn beef hash is dry. But it’s ok. If you are choosing between the Cromwell Diner or Mitchell’s, pick Mitchell’s.

The lack of more stars has to do with a long-time waitress of Mitchell’s committing an inexcusable faux pas. My daughter ordered scrambled eggs with cheese, spuds, and toast. Upon its arrival she started to eat. A minute later a woman is walking by with a plate saying to the waitress behind our booth that she doesn’t think she got the right plate.(Hers was similar — looked liked a cheese omelet) Upon hearing this, my daughter realized she had the wrong meal, too. So, I just stood up and mentioned that to the waitress, that we probably had our meals mixed up by accident. She proceeds to take the plate off of our table and replaces it with the woman’s plate that she was carrying around. I’m sorry, but that is disgusting and poor serving etiquette. Who knows if that woman ate off the plate first. When I told her my daughter would not eat what was at someone else’s table, she seemed annoyed that she had to have the kitchen prepare a new one. Maybe some refresher training is needed because that was not cool.

The staff has really picked up sense the last time I came hear, the wait at the door has shorten tremendously The food is still phenomenal, as it always have been, and continues to be a great place to bring your family for breakfast or lunch.

Many people we know like this place. My wife has even been before and had a good breakfast. I wish now I had taken a picture of mine the morning I first ate there. Even my wife agreed my meal looked bad. Wrong toast that came smeared in unmelted butter. Really crunchy burnt potatoes. Too far for me to drive to give it another try.

Best Breakfast Dinner in the area! What’s my fav. Best French toast(very homemade style), waffles, and home fries. They cup of orange juice is huge. Bacon is very good too, cook to perfection. And the price is very reasonable. Tips, if you go on a weekend around 10AM, you probably have to wait around 20 – 30 min to be seated. if you go around 12:00, you are good. I don’t know about if you go too early because we can never get up that early to test it out. All waitress and waiter are very very friendly, we only went twice, and the third time they already remember my chocolate milk :) Highly and highly and highly recommended! Get the Waffle!

Delicious breakfast and very accommodating. We walked in thirty minutes to close and everyone was very gracious and didn’t rush us at all. Ordered hash with potatoes and eggs and everything was perfect except the potatoes — the server explained that she wouldn’t charge us for them before even setting our plates down, but I would have gladly paid since I think fried potatoes are ok burned. Boyfriend ordered a breakfast sandwich that was also delicious.

Because DINER, people! Was on a fast dash north to Dartmouth for a conference, but after spending a(short) night in the Super 8 nearby, I had to stop here for breakfast. Had a terrific omelet, served by a very friendly and caring waitress. Very neighborhood feel, great food. Will happily stop here again any time I’m in the area.

Whenever I am in Connecticut, I come here every morning for breakfast.(Cromwell location) The owner is a wonderful individual and my favorite waitress Lisa always gives excellent service. This is a charming classic eatery and there is something called ‘consistency’ which is not found in other diners. Waffles are made with real Waffle batter and not pancake batter which is a major plus. Food is cooked to order and not sitting around in trays.

My husband and I decided to try a new spot for Sunday breakfast. After checking out the Unilocal reviews for the places in the area we had not tried yet, we settled on Mitchell’s on Main. When we got there, there was a little bit of a wait. It gave us the chance to check out the extensive list of specials on the board. They all sounded great, a lot of stuff similar to what you’d find at O’Rourke’s(banana walnut bread French toast, homemade roast beef hash, strawberry bananas foster stuffed French toast, etc). However, the prices were far more reasonable than at O’Rourke’s, and the restaurant is larger and warmer, and the parking is better. I knew as soon as I read the specials that I had to have the strawberry and bananas foster stuffed French toast. We got seated in less than 10 minutes at a booth in the back section of the restaurant. We were asked immediately if we wanted coffee, and we got one coffee and one herbal tea. They had a good herbal tea selection, which I was happy about since I gave up caffeine over the summer. However, they didn’t bring us spoons, so we had to stir our drinks with forks. Not a big deal but it’s one of those details that keeps me from rating as a 5. I also asked for ice water and didn’t get it. Coffee refills were a a bit slow. We also didn’t have knives, one came with my husband’s plate, but I had to ask for one. The food was the reason for the 4 rating. It’s probably even a 4.5. I ordered the stuffed French toast special, which was fabulous!!! It looked good and tasted better. I also got a side of corned beef hash, which was prepared well done(as I requested) and tasted fresh and homemade. My husband ordered the eggs Benedict and one pancake that was on the specials board — pumpkin white chocolate chips. His eggs Benedict was great… crispy English muffins, flavorful and perfectly grilled Canadian bacon, perfectly cooked egg, good Hollandaise sauce, his pancake was great too. I definitely want to go back soon to try more of the items off the regular menu, as well as more of the fabulous specials! If the service was just a little but better, I could increase their rating to a 5. We heard our waitress at a table behind us… I guess they were regulars because she rattled off their normal order off the top of her head, so they probably loved the service, I just wish she remembered to bring our water, utensils and coffee refills, pretty basic stuff for a breakfast restaurant. Overall, great experience and wonderful food. Mitchell’s will definitely be on our regular rotation for breakfast spots.

Kudos for breakfast all day, and the service was decent, but let’s be honest. The place is kept up like a dump. It’s downright filthy in there. Dust caked up on the wall hangings, dried hunks of food and God knows what else in the space between the booth and the wall, a bathroom that seems as though it’s not been updated since 1950 — wow. They could overcome their dirt ugly space with some simple attention to cleaning and décor. Excuse my stereotyping, but I’ve got to believe there is not a woman involved in ownership or senior management of this joint. Breakfast food was decent, though other offerings were somewhat limited compared to the typical diner if you’re there for lunch or dinner. Not a place we’ll be returning to though.

Met a dear friend here for breakfast the other morning — it’s her favorite spot — and was very pleasantly surprised. It’s your typical«Mom and Pop» local type of place, and apparently has a loyal following — we had to wait to be seated. The menu had some interesting specials — including a very tempting blackberry pancake — but I went for an omelet filled with feta cheese and asparagus. It wasn’t overdone, like some places I’ve been to — it was fluffy and light, and looked incredibly appetizing. It tasted as good as it looked. I also asked for a fresh fruit bowl, which was full of pineapple, melon, watermelon, strawberries, and grapes, which was nice considering that some places serve canned fruit or serve only the cheapest fruit they can find. The prices were reasonable, which was another happy surprise. I’ll be back. If you’re looking for a basic, good breakfast that will satisfy at reasonable prices, this is the place.

Ick. We woke up Saturday morning and thought we‘d check out a local dinner. After researching on Unilocal, we decided to check out Mitchel’s on Main. We ordered a variety in hopes of tasting lots of yummy things… we were sorley dissapointed. We ordered eggs benadict, a pancake, the house special(shaved potatoes, ham, onion, peppers and cheese), a biscut, oj, and a side of corned beef hash. Where to start… The house special was god awful. Burnt beyond belief. ¾ was ineatible– burned black with greasy chease mounded on top. I can’t belive they let that peice of crap out of the kitchen! It was disgusting. Seriously regretting not sending it back. Pancake– chewy, flat and tiny. Where’s the yummy, fluffy buttermilk pancake??? Not here. That’s for sure. Bisquick is better than that pot hole cover. Eggs benaddict– english muffin was not toasted. Halandaise had no lemon in it. Afterwards, we looked into the kitchen and saw a dirty coatainer with all of the shocked poached eggs floating in it. Gross and unsanitary. It came with potatoes that were burned and unseasoned. Biscut– dry, tastless, burned and dreanched in butter. Disgusting. Again… bisquick wins out on these. Perhaps I’m spoiled since I grew up with home made buttermilk biscuts and pancakes. Oj– acidic and from concentrate. Bleh. Corned beef hash– eadible, but how hard is it to screw that up. It came from a can and got put on the grill. Would have been better if it was HOT! This place was expensive for a diner too. $ 30 for a stomach ache. I can’t belive how many people were croweded in there eating burned food! So dissapointed fellow Unilocalers. You’ve lead us astray. Apparently people in Cromwell have no tastebuds. To sum it all up… WOOF!

I can walk to Mitchell’s on Main and have done so many a Saturday morning for breakfast. Great spot for a nice greasy breakfast. It’s the type of place where you order a side of bacon and they bring a dozen strips to the table. You order a waffle, and you get a waffle the size of your head. They have some really cool specials… s’mores waffles, banana french toast. The kids love the place. They also have lollipops for after breakfast. Nothing like putting the kids into sugar shock after their carbo-laden breakfast. The kitchen is open. As a former waiter, I find this comforting that the staff can’t do any funny business. Service is quick and friendly. You can get out of there in ½ an hour, or stay all morning with your coffee and paper. It’s up to you. And you can’t beat the prices. It’s great to see a classic breakfast spot in downtown Cromwell.
