History

Established in 1980.

Don and Sara Bauerschmidt purchased «Lake Drive Hardware» in 1980 and has remained in the family to this day.

In the summer of 1984, Radio Shack came to town. The addition of this well known brand was a welcome and needed addition to the community.

In 1995 a major expansion took place with the accusition of the miniature golf and arcade property located across the street from the main store in Crestline. This allowed the addition of enhanced products and services such as building materials, equipment rental and a full line nursery.

The Garden Center was remodeled in 2005 adding much needed additional square footage to the building with a refocus on the equipment rental department and addition of outdoor power equipment. We are a full line Husqvarna dealer, offering saws, trimmers and service.

Presently Karl Bauerschmidt and family oversee the operation of Lake Drive Hardware and Arrowhead Electronics.

This review is long overdue, I have been to this store many, many times. I can’t think of one time where I didn’t leave feeling glad there was someone to help me get the job done. Any question I’ve ever thrown at the staff has been answered. Plumbing, painting, working on the jeep or buying tools. Great people, outstanding product knowledge. Couldn’t be happier with my 30+ visits to this store. Never had a bad experience. Keep up the great work guys, and THANK YOU.

If all you need is a screw driver, or a box of nails, then Ace hardware store is a good tool store. They have deals all the time, so go in and pick up a flyer or simply ask for one.

Here’s the deal with ACE.
–Good, convenient store with hard to find items on the mountain.
–May save you a trip down the hill, or a bunch of trips!
–Prices are not bad for being on the mountain.
–They have decent sales periodically.
Here’s my issue with this ACE, The staff. Literally, there is one nice lady, and one nice guy working here. The staff are generally rude, unwilling to help, and lack courtesy. In fact, I have to avoid the old grumpy man; as my tollerance for his attitude and BS is wearing thin.

Bought some paint there for a kitchen project. When I got it home I realized it didn’t match the color sample I got from their paint Dept. When I tried to return it they agreed that it didn’t match but I would have to come back another time as their mixing machine wasn’t working. I went back the next day and they told me the reason it didn’t match was because I bought Semi Gloss paint and the color chip was Flat. They should be able to match the color samples from their own displays regardless of the finish. Stuck with more paint I can’t use.

I just moved to the area and this has become my go to shop for hardware. The prices are just as good as any hardware store, but the staff in the hardware and garden centers are extremely friendly, and helpful. The first time I went in was to get a new flex hose for my dryer. Customer service found the parts I needed, explained to me how the installation would go, and they were right on. I’ve been back many times and it’s a great example of what a local neighborhood shop should be.

I am really surprised at the harsh reviews of Ace Hardware. I find this to be an amazing little hardware store in Crestline and I am very, very glad it is there. I’m surprised at the selection of items they have considering their tiny size. I’m sure the entire place would fit into one tiny department at your average Home Depot.
The staff has always been very helpful and treat me with a lot of respect considering I barely know what I’m doing in the world of cabin repair.

This is located in the Mountain community of Crestline, Gregory and Arrowhead. The parking lot is very tight and limited. They are very well equipped with hardware supplies and most of their staff are very helpful. I did have two bad experience with one particular employee name Randy who was unhelpful. I asked him twice for assistance and he will blow you off and when he does finally decide to help you he is sarcastic, rude and very demeaning. Cause of his poor customer service and terrible experience I rate this place low. Have him sweep the front and clean the windows. Not help people.

Its really pretty simple… would you rather be in a warehouse sized store trying to find your way or have some really cool people help you. The prices on some things might be slightly higher but you get GREAT SERVICE and you support a local business. I have been and will continue to go back!

Overpriced… extremely rude staff! There are much better places to go on the mountain than this place. I would rather drive down the hill than shop here ever again. I was in the other day and noticed that the plants in the nursery are 3 times the price than other places! The woman at the counter seemed confused and was not helpful at all. She ended up helping another customer while I was waiting to pay… needless to say I walked out without purchasing anything. I will never go back.

This is a fabulous hardware store. I have had several opportunities to shop here recently as we are building a new deck. EVERY time I walk into their door I had some knowledgeable employee ask if they could help me! It is like you have your own personal shopper. This woman doesn’t know much about hardware, but, that has never been a problem at Ace Hardware in Crestline, they have the answers. This experience makes a visit to Home Depot or Lowes, painful! Prices seem pretty competitive, however, seeing that it is so convenient and offers such a pleasant experience, if it is a little more, it is worth it.

Every time myself or any of my employees enter this store, we get the best customer service every single time. I am a plumbing contractor in town and need so many different types of materials for our jobs, and these guys and gals are on it!
