We are 3rd generation family owned moving company that was founded for William Lawton Senior. We have been providing moving and storage services for families and businesses for over 70 years and we are proud to say we have great customer satisfaction.

Lawton Moving & Storage was started by Bill Lawton Sr. in 1945 and has been owned by the Lawton family ever since. William Lawton III and his brother Chris are third generation movers. Bill graduated from URI with a degree in business management. They started working on the trucks part time in 1977. Being taught by their Grandfather and Father, they started from the bottom and worked their way up, learning all aspects of the moving business from moving and packing, to hoisting and piano moving, When William Lawton Jr. retired in 1990, they were more than ready to start running the family business. They instill all their knowledge and enthusiasm in all of their employees. Customer service is their first priority and they treat all customers like they are family. They make it a priority to take all of the stress out of moving.

I have used Lawton twice. They were great both times. The crew arrived on time and went to work right away. They were very efficient and were very careful with all the items they moved. The move took slightly longer than what I anticipated but that had to do more with the house layout than anything else.
The driver was able to maneuver the truck on our tight street and never touched the grass. No damage whatsoever. The price I agreed to over the phone (they charge per hour and give you an estimate of how many hours the job will take) was exactly what I ended up paying. Great job!

Contrary to other reviews, I have only good things to say about my experience with Lawton Moving. They moved me from Providence to Newport about a month ago. They arrived in the exact timeframe that they said they would. My street is really tight and they patiently worked at getting the truck backed into the driveway. They guys doing the move were great. They were friendly and polite. My closing was a bit of a disaster and I actually had to leave them at my old place with friends to run to my closing, hoping to get to my new house ahead of them. I got there just minutes ahead of them. They were great about getting everything moved in and in the right rooms/​storage in the midst of a bunch of girls celebrating my new home. And to make things better, not one single thing that was moved was damaged in any way. I would highly recommend Lawton Moving. Thanks guys!!!

Writing this update only because the owner figured out what Unilocal was over 2 years later and keeps messaging me about my review.
The owner should be mindful about customer service and not going on here telling everyone that they are wrong. I’ve used other companies since then and have had great experiences.

This was the first time I’ve used this company. I can not say enough excellent things about Bill and the crew he sent out. 4 men worked their hardest on an extremely humid day. None of them complained. They just kept on going. They were ALL courteous, polite, more than going out of their way to be accommodating, and friendly. I thought I was missing 2 shelves but it was my mistake. The shelves were right there in front of my face even though i swore to Bill I didn’t have them! He was very polite and understanding about my concern over what I thought was their mistake. Nothing was scratched or damaged either. I can’t thank the crew enough for making a very difficult move for me, bearable. KUDOS and PROPS to Lawton Moving & Storage!!! Thank you all!!! On 6÷15÷15 I used Lawton moving to move in to my new house. I had been choosing between them and another company, but I definitely made the correct decision! The crew arrived on time and were very polite and helpful. I had many important items that were difficult to move, including a grand piano and a 65 inch tv. The crew was able to move all of them without any damage at all. I also had them pack my belongings into boxes and I was pleased to find there was no damage to any of the smaller items as well. I am glad that I used Lawton moving and would definitely recommend them to anyone!

Very un-​impressed. They were late and no one called me, I had to call them to find out what was going on. The staff complained about accessing the apartment through a standard size door frame. The fees and magic reasons they came up with to inflate the price on the day of service were ridiculous. I chose this company over a larger company because I feel that you generally get better, more personal service from small businesses. Not the case here.

I have used these guys twice in the past year and they are AMAZING! They are fast, affordable and very responsible. I completely recommend them. They moved everything but the small boxes with our very fragile items (I will never trust anyone with them so it’s not about them, it’s about me) and it took them 6.5 hours including travel time from Warwick to Coventry. One thing that impressed me the most is how respectful and nice they were. We have some really heavy furniture and I never heard them swear or complain (I know would have!.) The driver Jamie his crew were simply the best. My husband and I were very happy with their service and I recommend them 100%.

I used Lawton movers to move from Providence to Boston almost a year ago. My advice is — if you want to stay within your budget and be done within reasonable amount of time — DO NOT USE LAWTON MOVERS!
I had to move 1 bedroom apartment, everything was packed and ready. The movers showed up a bit late, even though it was a morning move, Then, when they started taking things down, i thought their pace is slow, because they are not fully awake yet (even though it was 10am already). But the pace stayed the same throughout the move, barely walking, taking smoke breaks every 20 minutes, gasping and complaining.
It took them 2 hours to get from Providence to Boston and they blamed it on the traffic (right! i took the same route and got to Boston 40 minutes before them). They kept the same pace while unloading the truck. I was so frustrated, that i told them i have a certain budget for the move and if they go over it, they are not getting a tip. At this point they became fully awake and aware of what they were doing there. And mind you, i was helping them to unload the truck, because otherwise they wouldn’t be done by midnight!
Eventually, my move started at 10am and ended around 5pm, it cost me almost $ 800, they were dragging the time on purpose (with the slow pace and constant smoke breaks) and obviously this was to get more money for the job.
If you’re planning a move, do yourself a favor, skip Lawton movers. You won’t spend the whole day on the move, won’t be frustrated by movers, who openly treat you like an idiot by dragging the time and thinking you have no idea what is going on. And you will definitely save some money.
