Get over here and support this super great little lunch spot. It’s tucked away in Mainstrasse, but it stands out to me as a great place to pick up a cold pressed juice or smoothie. Covington lacks juice and smoothie bars, and I’m so glad Son and Soil is revolutionizing the Cov with its clean, fresh menu items.

I’m not sure why it took me so long to meet my new lunch staple, but it was worth the wait! The veggie wrap is filling, not fluffed out with too many greens instead of actual ingredients. Potato salad = superb. The Ginger ‘C’ is my new cure for one-too-many the night before. All in all, I’d say the quality of my life was improved by eating here.

Had the spicy club and soup of the day, which was a potato. Both were incredible. Super friendly staff. Great little space.

Son and Soil is precious! I stopped in yesterday right as they were closing, so I didn’t get to order off the menu but grabbed a to-go juice and cookie(I had to offset the health benefits of the juice somehow). It’s really convenient that they have both quick, to-go options in addition to made-to-order meals! The lady helping me out was friendly and welcoming, even though I came in at a time that wasn’t ideal for her. They had a few cold-pressed juices in both large(16 ounces) and smaller(looked like about half the size of the large) bottles. Some of the juices were available in shot format as well. They didn’t have the variety that some other stores have, but the one I tried(So Fresh and So Clean) was great! It was more strongly cucumber flavored than I was expecting, so if you’re anti-cucumber, you may want to steer clear of the So Fresh and So Clean juice. I noted that the prices at Son and Soil were a little lower than comparable shops. The cookie was great, but to be honest, I haven’t ever met a cookie I didn’t like. It was a smaller, more dense cookie with noticeable salt, which I loved. I can’t wait to go back and try some of their sandwiches, coffees and smoothies!

Wanted a healthy brunch place to balance out a heavy meal from the night before, and Son & Soil was PERFECT. Charming space, super friendly servers, and a good selection of smoothies, juices, sandwiches, and baked goods. We tried the Ginger C juice, the Green Peach smoothie, and the Spicy Club. I LOVED the club — best sandwich I’ve had in a while. Beautifully made with well balanced flavors and textures. I also really enjoyed the smoothie; the spinach gave it a nice but not overwhelming earthy freshness. The juice had a bit too much ginger for me personally, but my husband loved it. Basically the only thing that would make Son & Soil better is if it were in our neighborhood, haha! Can’t wait to come back.

We stopped in here randomly on a 64 degree January day. After ordering we were served with an awesome spicy avocado turkey club salad on arugula & spinach with a side of espresso. The complimentary cucumber water was some of the best water(as weird as it sounds) I’ve ever had.

Son & Soil deserves all the stars. The only complaint I have is that it’s not open 24 hours. Their food is all local and delicious. My favorite combo so far is the BLP(bacon, lettuce and pickle) with a size of orzo. Everything they give you is recyclable, right down to your fork and knife. I haven’t tried their juice yet, but I hope to soon. Son & Soil, don’t change.

Probably my favorite lunch spot on Main Street. The spicy club is one of the greatest sandwiches I have ever tried. The burnt carrots bring out the perfect flavor throughout the whole sandwich. Everything I’ve had here is delicious and satisfies your hunger. Eat here

It’s great finally having a healthy option in the mainstrasse area. Extremely fresh. Very tasty. Reasonable prices for the quality you are getting.

When the owners of Bouquet announced they were opening Son & Soil — a lunch spot just up the street that still offers the same local food, farm-to-table ethos that’s so entwined with the essence of Bouquet I was ecstatic. While Bouquet is one of my favorite places to have dinner in Covington, I always thought their biggest drawback was that, while dining there is an experience that should be savored — sometimes you really just want a quick bite of delicious food on the fly and the second is that they’re closed during lunch hours. Son & Soil has solved both these shortcomings! I’ve now eaten at Son & Soil twice(I like to eat at each place multiple times before commenting) and I am still just as giddy as the day their doors first swung open! My first visit was a couple weeks after they opened. When you first walk in, it’s hard to escape the small size of the dining area. Only about eight tables and a long bench down the far right side. But the second thing that strikes you is the clean feel, not in the sanitary sense(though that too) but the almost Scandinavian efficiency with which everything is laid out. Plus with the ever present smell of freshly brewed coffee hanging in the air, you can forgive yourself if you think you’ve wandered into a café in Stockholm. Son & Soil offers a seasonally rotating series of juices, smoothies, and sandwiches & wraps. And while the menu is limited, it’s always been my opinion that I would rather have a choice of a few dishes that are exceptional, rather than a smörgåsbord of mediocrity. I really wanted to try the smoothies, but I was absolutely famished and wanted to make sure I was able to sate my hunger. Being a vegetarian, I really only had one choice — the veggie wrap. It was delicious! I really think it’s the bulgur wheat makes the wrap so exceptional. It’s such an underutilized ingredient in my opinion — with a consistency between quinoa and couscous, but with mild earthy flavor it really was the main flavor that the other ingredients gravitated around and complemented. On my second trip, it was late in the day — in fact they were just minutes from closing for the afternoon. I walked in and after a cursory look at the menu — I knew what I wanted but I always leave myself open to spur of the moment temptation. I ordered The Green Mango smoothie with mango, spinach, banana, soy milk, and flax seed. After I ordered it I could see that almost everything in the kitchen had been cleaned in a familiar effort to get things done ahead of schedule. If the young lady making my smoothie was in anyway perturbed at her now redundant need to clean the blender she broadcast not a hint of it. As I was heading out, my first sip of the smoothie lit up parts of my brain in a way that doesn’t happen often enough. So much so that I turned back to the counter to give the ladies working a nod of approval. I’ve had smoothies from one or two places where at the very end you find a chunk of something too big for the straw or worse clogging it up and you have to, like an unruly schoolchild, retract the straw and blow it out like a spitball. But this was a perfect blend from top to bottom! If Son & Soil can maintain the consistency of excellence, the way they maintain the consistency of their smoothies — they’re going to be a luncheon institution in Covington for many years to come and I, for one am looking forward to the new tastes and culinary adventures that they will provide!

It’s hard to find a place with substantial smoothies that are not sugary. Son & Soil is a super neat little space with some hardcore smoothies, juices, and some tasty sounding sandwiches. Did not try the rest of the menu but I enjoyed my smoothie. I’m not sure about the pricing though, at $ 7 for a 16 oz smoothie. Feels slightly too splurgy. This is an ideal menu for simple dining and lunch though, so it will definitely be in my rotation.

Let’s just start off with saying that these kinds of joints are my favorite. You know the place is gonna be good with local ingredients, an interesting menu, and fair prices. My boyfriend and I came in for lunch on Saturday and we both already knew what we were going to get. He got the Spicy Club on Sixteen Bricks bread, and had a very interesting and almost Asian taste to it. It almost reminded me of a modern take on a Bahn Mi sandwich(obviously not, but the freshness and crunchiness was close). The sandwich was pressed into a panini and was a very big portion as well. I got the Ham and Jam sandwich, which I liked more than the Spicy Club mainly because it had the sweet and salty thing going on, which I loved so much. They had an array of other options of sides and juices that we didn’t try, but will next time. They had a pumpkin spiced cupcake topped with pistachios that was glaring at me since we got there, and at only 75¢, I finally caved. It was so delicious and tasty, and a perfect treat after the sandwich. We also had previously gotten a coffee at the Bean House, but next time I will definitely try their coffee. If you want a quick and decent sandwich that includes local ingredients then come here. And if you’re considering the dessert after, just go for it.

I have been eagerly anticipating the opening of this place! Lovely owners(also of Bouquet Restaurant and Wine Bar), a beautifully transformed space and fresh food! I got the green juice(cucumber, celery, spinach, apple and grapefruit) and the very tasty spicy club(whole grain bread, turkey, cheese, arugula, burnt carrots and spicy-sweet jalapeño jam). Both were very fresh and tasty! I will definitely be back(though only on Saturdays as I work M-F), next time I will try a smoothie!
