Roebling Murals at the Covington Riverfront

A good site to see. No charge, and parking available right there. Turn around and there also is a great view of the bridge and the river!

These murals are exactly what they played them out to be. They are historic and they are beautiful. There’s so much history behind every single which one of the murals. We watch the documentary specifically about Covington and learn so much about the murals that it is just so worth looking up for. The history of Covington altogether is phenomenal and coming to see it live and color at the Roebling murals is the icing on the cake.

Gorgeous. You get a lovely stroll, the Cincinnati skyline and beautiful artwork. What more could you ask for.

The murals themselves are beautifully done.
They’re a little tricky to find if you don’t walk over the Roebling Bridge from the Cincy side. (My friend and I parked near some shops in Covington and walked over, and at first we got lost in the Marriott parking lot, lol.)
I just wish there were a bit more context, like a brochure or little booklet at each end. (Ex: I know what Tall Stacks IS, but not the history behind it.)
Walking along the murals, you can also turn around and get some great views of the bridge and the Cincinnati skyline. Perfect for photos.

Make time to walk around to the outside river side of the RiverCenter Marriott to view the 16 beautiful murals! They are HUGE but also SO DETAILED and amazing.

These are some really well done murals depicting important events in the area’s history. I particularly like that you can see them while you’re walking across the Roebling bridge. As you get closer to the murals you notice more and more detail that way. I love to photograph the bridges and downtown from the landing in front of the murals, and that’s how I first fond them. They are a bit hidden, and I’m not even sure a resident would be able to tell you where they are. They are certainly worth finding though.

These are probably one of the lesser known murals in Greater Cincinnati, yet these are some of the biggest, best, and most detailed.
These are in one of those areas, where if you’re not on the water, and aren’t sure where they are, you’re going to have a hard time finding them. Yes, you can see them from the water, which I love! The separate themes, each depicting a certain important date, or decade, has as much detail as you can cram into a small (ok like 15 foot long) space. There’s an Independence Day celebration, a horse race in which you can see every jockey’s number and color. The attention to detail is just amazing for something this large.
The best thing about it, is that at the top of each scene, it has the year, or years, that it happened and a small plaque below it signifying the importance. This is a great place, for art and history lovers alike! Or if you’re just looking for a change of scenery. Go on a little exploratory mission, next time you’re down that way. You won’t regret it.
Oh and I highly suggest finding a parking spot and walking down that way, it might make it a little easier, and not have you cross back over the bridge. That part of town can be a bit confusing.

Traveling over the Roebling Suspension Bridge, you may have noticed artwork lining the flood wall in Covington. The series of murals spans 800 feet and depicts the legacy of Northern Kentucky from the 1800s to the early 2000s. Some historic memories include: the city’s first baseball team, German heritage and industry, churches, streetcars, the Latonia racetrack, and the riverfront.
Just a short walk onto the Covington Landing, these beautiful murals are free to the public and a must see for any local person or visitor.

You must visit the Covington Floodwall Murals at least once, and take any out-​of-​town guests there, too. Now that the 800 foot area was recently illuminated, you can also visit at night. The artwork is located between the foot of Madison Avenue and the Roebling Suspension Bridge.
This project began with the 2003 unveiling of five murals depicting local historical events and persons. The project is now completed and contains images of a frontiersman, the founder of the Boy Scouts, a fugitive slave, and the Roebling bridge designer. Other murals depict the Latonia racetrack, buffalo crossing the Ohio River, and more.
Both the details and sheer size of the murals are amazing. A team of artists led by Robert Dafford painted the murals. Dafford created similar murals in Portsmouth, Ohio, as well as Maysville and Paducah, Kentucky.
Strolling along the floodwall to enjoy this public art is completely free and well worth your time.

The public art murals along the flood wall on the Covington, KY side of the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge are outstanding. Each scene depicts a period of Covington’s history from the 1800’s to 2003.
I was awed by the remarkable colorful detail of these gigantic pieces of art. This is a «must-​see» for anyone visiting the Covington area. I’ve included samples of the artwork in the photos section.
