Our favorite breakfast spot! The debris grits alone are worth getting up for. Great spot to stop in for breakfast after walking through the farmers market on Saturday mornings.

HORRIBLEHORRIBLE service!!! I will never go here again. Walked in at 10:00 to order breakfast(which is served until 10:30) and after giving us menus, we went to order. We were then told that most of the items for breakfast will not be available now because the cook was making burgers. We asked how long we had to wait and they said 20 minutes for breakfast. Don’t know why the cook was making burgers because no one was in the restaurant!!! So I said if he’s making burgers then can we have lunch and they said no we would have to wait until 11 o’clock to order lunch!!! Seriously??? I have never had a restaurant act like they did not want customers before and that is EXACTLY how they were acting!

I had a great first experience. Fried Catfish with Mac ‘n Cheese and Green Beans is a special on Friday. It was awesome! The catfish was fried perfectly and the sides were also very good. Will definitely be back. The sandwich selection was large and the restaurant had a very laid back comfortable vibe.

Went here for breakfast while visiting the farmer’s market for a birthday trip. I agree with John L. H.‘s review; I had the same experience. Prices were good, and the food was fresh. The service was also good; if I visit again for lunch, I might write another review, but I would say that the food itself was just«good.»

I go to Beck-N-Call at least once a week for lunch, and sometimes breakfast, and have been doing so for years. Their food is fantastic. The daily specials are fresh and delicious and the sandwiches are always a winner. My favorite is the Rueben. Tasty! The fried catfish special served every Friday is consistently good. They serve it with homemade mac-n-cheese and green beans. They also have blackened fish with a crawfish topping that is exceptionally good. Entrees with sides are less than $ 8.00, which makes it one of the best values in town. Salads are good, always fresh ingredients, and the hamburgers are a perennial crowd pleaser. Breakfast is tasty as well. During the week they pump out breakfast fast, but on Saturday it may be a bit slower, but worth the wait. The folks that work there are a delight and will accommodate any request.

Breakfast is the one meal that I eat out more often than any other. On a recent trip to the Covington Farmers Market, I stopped in and gave Beck-N-Call a try. When I first entered I was slightly confused. The main room I encountered was completely empty. I don’t know of it used for lunch or just overflow, but all ordering took place in the second room towards the back. Ordering takes place at the counter, and your food is brought to your table. While I normally prefer an actual server, this method does mean you get to order immediately. There is a coffee station right next to the cashier so you just grab a cup and fill. Refills are also self service. All of the staff encountered were friendly and professional. My order came out pretty quick despite a warning that it may take a while. As an omelet aficionado, I decided to try their version of a western omelet. I found it to be good, but not extraordinary. The best thing about this restaurant is it’s proximity to the farmers market. It’s so close that you could actually park here, eat and then walk the few steps to the market. While I don’t know that this will become my regular breakfast restaurant they do a good job. If you’re headed to the market, or just driving around old Covington, give Beck-N-Call a try.

Probably one of the best places to go for home cooking. If you are near you should go as often as possible. I am in Mandeville and I would definitely eat here again. I ordered the lunch special on a Friday(fish). Plan on going on Tuesday for the lasagna.

I found the food to be very mediocre. They’re sandwiches are far too overpriced. I got a burger, fries, and drink and my bill came out to over $ 12 without the tip. They did have some pretty cheap lunch specials though. If I were to eat here again, that is what I would get; it seems to be the best deal.

I hesitate to review Beck-N-Call just yet because I was only there for a special event with a buffet of their food, not for typical service during their normal hours but here goes. It is a cute, informal place. I was there for a special Jazz event with the Maryland Jazz Band of Cologne, Germany and Don Vappie playing, which was awesome. This was 5 – 7 and they are normally only open for breakfast and lunch. The buffet for this event had fried catfish, mac ‘n cheese, potato salad, and maybe another item or two I am forgetting. I had the catfish and potato salad, both were nice but the catfish won’t replace my cousin Lorrie’s as the best fried catfish I’ve had. I really liked that, although it was a buffet, there were waitresses that would bring you refills on your drink and other things. I did notice that the back room where most of the tables were didn’t seem to be air-conditioned. The front room was, thank goodness. I would be interested to try this place again.

Great little breakfast place. Very informal dining, you order at the counter and they bring it to you when it’s ready. By far the BEST grits I’ve ever had. Ever. In my life. Next time I’ll get them without the extra butter on top — why mess with perfection?
