Description

Specialties

Individual and family counseling (including couples counseling) are provided in a comfortable, respectful atmosphere where people are not judged, but rather encouraged to make positive changes in their lives.

In addition to helping to resolve family issues I have worked with people experiencing grief and loss, anxiety, depression, separation, divorce, care taking responsibilities and family of origin issues among other concerns.

I have been told that I am easy to talk to. I feel this is very important as the therapeutic relationship is an integral part of counseling. To be able to successfully navigate counseling a person needs to trust his/her therapist. Trust is developed through the cultivation of a healthy professional relationship.

I see ages 13 through senior citizen.

If you call for information or to schedule an appointment please leave a message if necessary. Out of respect for my clients I do not answer calls during sessions.

History

Established in 2002.

I began working in the Coventry area in 1992 as part of my full time position. In 1995 the counseling center I worked for closed. I was asked to continue my services at this office part time, which I did until 2002 when I opened my own full time practice. Working in Coventry for the past 20 years has given me the opportunity to become better acquainted with Kent County and the people who live here.

Lori J.

Business Owner

I was born and raised in Rhode Island. A 1981 graduate of Prout I went on to the Catholic University of America in Washingtin, D.C. In 1986 I was awarded a BA with a concentration in Social Work. In 1987 CUA awarded me with a Master of Social Work degree.

Following graduation I worked for the D.C. government in Child Protective Services.

When I returned to RI in 1989 I began my career as a Clinical Social Worker working for Catholic Social Services. From there I moved to St. Francis Chapel and City Ministry in 1995, eventually becoming the Assistant Director of the Counseling Center. At the same time I maintained a small private practice in Coventry.

In 2002 my small practice became a full time venture. I feel honored that so many people, over the course of 20+ years, have entrusted their life stories with me.
