Specialties
Sun Pirate specializes in solar electric and solar thermal systems for residential and small businesses. We have installed thousands of solar electric, solar pool heating and solar domestic hot water systems since our establishment in 1981. In 2005 we branched into the solar training field and now offer online solar training in Photovoltaic System Design & Installation and Fundamentals of Solar Hot Water. Both courses are NABCEP registered and IREC accredited. Our Photovoltaic course qualifies students to sit for the NABCEP PV Entry Level Exam also.
History
Established in 1981.
Sun Pirate started in 1981 when Roger Coghlan was given the clients of a solar company he was working for that shut down. He then got his contracting license and established Sun Pirate which has been a family run business ever since.
Meet the Business Owner
Roger C.
Business Owner
I began in the solar industry in 1976 after leaving the Marine Corps at which point I got my AA in Business and an AS in Air-Conditioning Technology in 1978. I then went to work for Solartherm where I learned the hands on skills involved with solar. In 1981 Solartherm closed down leaving me with their client base. I then received my Contractors License and started Sun Pirate, specializing in installation and service of solar energy systems.
In 2000 I decided to get my Bachelors and teaching credentials to pursue training within the solar industry. I got my BA in Environmental Studies and planning and a Certificate for Energy Management and Design from SSU in 2003. I then developed and currently teach ongoing IREC accredited online courses in Fundamentals of Solar Hot Water and Photovoltaic System Design & Installation. These courses have also been registered with NABCEP for continuing education hours and our course qualifies students to sit for the NABCEP Entry Level PV Exam.
