History

Established in 1979.

The company was founded by Bill McLea as a one location shop with retail service and commercial truck tire service provided by the Piner Road store in Santa Rosa. Bill’s two sons, Les and Rick, were there from the beginning, overseeing day to day operations. When Bill retired in 1996, Les and Rick were ready to take over and have since expanded the company to 5 locations within Sonoma County. Petaluma was the first addition in 2001, followed by Cotati in 2003, Baker Ave in Santa Rosa in 2013, and finally Windsor in 2015. And there is no shortage of family as the 3rd generation is led by General Manager Darren McLea and Service Manager Brandon McLea, who both spent endless summers as clean up kids and tire service busters learning the ins and outs of the business.

Jason started at our Piner Road location as a tire technician and has worked his way up the ranks from there. He quickly became the tire service manager and and then moved on to service writing. He is now the proud store manager of our Cotati location and has a work ethic that surpasses most while still paying close attention to detail. Since my last review, I’ve visited McLeas in Cotati two times. The first time, I was given a list of everything that needed to be done to my truck and told which items were safety issues and which were «needed in the near future». One of those items was new tires and the other was a horn switch replacement (my decision to hold off on it). When I had the tires replaced, McLeas’ credit card company erroneously charged me twice, four days apart. I called McLeas two minutes before closing and Jason got all my information and let me know the credit card company was already closed and that it would have to wait until the next morning. By 8:30 the next morning, Jason called me to let me know what the issue was and that it would be taken care of. My account was credited back that morning.
Today, when I took the truck back to have the horn switch replaced, James called and let me know it was only dirty connection points which they cleaned and they also stiffened up the springs saving me approximately $ 100 for a new switch. They could have easily gone ahead and changed the switch and not told me. Their honesty and good work will keep me continuing to do business with them.

I was impressed with the exceptional customer service provided by McLea’s in Cotati. The whole team, and James in particular, provided thorough, professional, respectful and friendly service. I went in because my tire had a nail stuck in it and I needed it repaired. I was treated just like a client who took in a several-​hundred-​dollar item. They said the tire would be ready in 40 minutes so I decided to go run errands and told them I’d be back soon. When a little over 40 minutes had passed, James gave me a courtesy call confirming it was done. Upon returning I requested a quote for two car maintenance needs to be taken care of in the future; within minutes I had a formal printed quote ready to go and zero pushiness. James acted as my account executive; like he would take care of orchestrating care for my car no matter what. As I was leaving, he walked me to my car and even offered me a bottled water for the road. Once in my car, I saw that the little tire light on my dashboard was still on. I stepped out of my car to get someone to turn it off and next thing I know three of the mechanics, as well as James, are rushing to my car to see why I’m getting out and to handle the issue. It is so clear that at the Cotati McLea’s customer satisfaction is a top priority. In this day and age, positive and outstanding customer service experiences across all industries are few and far between; I commend James and the whole team at this shop for raising the bar on customer satisfaction (and for doing so with a smile) and look forward to using their services again. As a side note, the location is very clean and tidy with a nice waiting area.

We’ve been going to McClea’s for quite a few years now. We got started with them because of a used car we bought off a lot. We learned that the dealer had used McClea’s to prep and vet the car for resale. It’s been a great, reliable car, and we found McClea’s to be a great reliable repair and service business.
There are other good choices around town but you end up sticking with the one that works best for your car (s) and your personal situation. Good work, fair prices, and you feel like you’re dealing with friends. Car repairs are never enjoyable but McClea’s Cotati makes the process as pleasant as anyone could!
When I’ve had concerns, such as why did it cost so much to fix that tire leak, they explain very honestly why they do things the way they do and that they won’t cut corners even where it doesn’t show. Bottom line, I always feel respected and I’ve never felt ripped off. Thanks, guys.

I have visited there shop three times, first two times, I was greeted by Reece, which were a simple repair. Then just stopped in to drop off some wheels to have re-​balanced, again Reece
greeted me and helped remove the wheels from my truck, then when I came back to pick up my wheels, Reece was busy with another customer, that is when James assisted me. this is what I call team work. they were very professional. I would highly recommend McLea, s to anyone. thank you both for all your help.

Stopped in to get a battery replaced under warranty.. This shop just said they would have to charge me $ 60 to install a battery! According to them it would take them 40 minutes to replace the battery. First of all, it’s under warranty and second, 40 minutes to change the battery is ridiculous!

I contacted McLea’s in Cotati last week when I was in a pinch. I needed a set of wheels and tires sized, ordered, and installed next day for my brand new subaru the day before a trip to tahoe. I called in on a Friday afternoon hoping for a Saturday service. When I called in, Reece answered and listened closely to my situation, got to understand me, my car, my driving style and my wheel/​tire needs. He was able to quote me multiple options by many manufacturers at multiple price points. He was incredibly knowledgeable about each option and was able to get very technical with his explanation. This is a big shout of to McLea’s and especially Reece who helped me out big time on short notice at a killer price on a weekend. I few good about keeping my money local, especially when the business goes above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction. I work at a motorcycle service center in town and I know what quality vehicle and customer service looks and feels like.

I’ve been a customer with McLeas since 2007, normally I use the Petaluma location but I came to this one (cotati) because they do exhaust. I asked about getting a muffler installed and due to my work, could only have it installed on the day that the exhaust technician was off.
The guys at the front desk called other locations to see if any other were available that day to no avail. Since they could not offer me their services for this installation, they recommended and scheduled me in at another local muffler shop. Everything worked out great, and my car sounds awesome now.
Thanks guys, that’s quite exceptional customer service, and why I will continue coming to McLeas shops and recommending them to others.

Took my 2001 Jeep Wrangler in with some very complicated issues to say the very least, research had to be done and phone calls made, thank you so much to service manager Brian Lee, everyone from the desk on was welcoming and very professional. I know nothing about cars, trucks or Jeeps, I put my faith in McLea’s to fix my problem, electrical stuff, got my love back (the Jeep) Mcleas will definitly have my future business!

Premium price, subpar results at the Cotati location.
I’ve been a big fan of McLea’s Piner location, and have taken my fleet of fuel trucks there for years. Recently I took my personal truck to the Cotati location on three occasions and won’t be going back.
The first time was for a starter, which they bought from O’Reilly and marked up 100% to resell to me — literally — I listened to the phone call as I was in the lobby and later verified with O’Reilly (total cost $ 500).
The second was to diagnose several items which I asked them to take a look at. My truck is older than their scanner would read, so rather than diagnose any of them old school, they simply recommended a major tune-​up and charged me for an hour’s diagnostics ($ 145). I questioned that, so they knocked it down to half an hour. I paid for the tune-​up (over $ 500) which they performed. When I picked up my vehicle, it was overheating when driven for more than a few minutes. When I took it back, I was told I could pay another full hour of diagnostics ($ 145) for them to figure out what they had done on the previous visit.
I elected to spend my money elsewhere. If you’re going to charge a premium price, be able to back it up with quality workmanship. Standing behind the work you do is always nice, too.

I love this place these guys are the best, if your a lady take your car here they are trustworthy and will not take advantage of you, and they are easy on the eyes to boot. I will only ever take my car here, they can do just about anything, when I was waiting on getting my flat tire fixed they even offered me some pizza, what a deal, and they have all kinds of coupon deals, I don’t think I have ever paid full price for any service. Took my car in with a nail in the tire. needed mud and snow tires on my SUV
They put 2 new tires on the back.
After my car was in a auto shop due to a shimmy going 60mph, they mechanic
discovered that McClains sold me 2 tires for the rear that did NOT match the same size of the ones on the front. Had i put the car in 4 Wheel drive at any time, it would
have dropped the differential and caused big damages. Also the front tire was not
totally round, causing the shimmy.
These people are not professional or informed, they should NOT be working on
your car, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE

WHEELWORKS uses the exact same method and patch your crook at the counter showed and tried to sell me. Your explanation is bogus… Go to WHEELWORKS and save your money $$$$

I operate a shipping company called Huntington Beach Hauling. We put a lot of miles on our trucks and trailers and subsequently we consume a lot of tires. I recently moved to the Cotati area and was in need of 2 new trailer tires. I lucked out and found McLea’s Tire and Automotive Service just a few blocks from my new home.
I was helped out by a guy named Chaelo at the desk and he sold me 2 great tires at really competitive prices.
I will certainly be back to do future business with these guys and I would encourage anyone reading this to give them a shot the next time you need tires, service work, or mods to your vehicle.

A few months ago I took my car in for a tire rotation at another auto place and was told I needed new shocks. I was completely thrown off by the price they quoted me at. Convinced I could get a better deal, I began calling around to every mechanic in the area. All quoted me the same or higher price except for McLeas. They didn’t quote me at all! The man I spoke to on the phone offered to do a bounce test for my shocks to see how badly I needed them replaced. I figured a second opinion couldn’t hurt so I drove straight there. After getting them tested, McLeas told me I did not need shocks. They were fine and it’s just a manufactures recommendation based off of how many miles I’ve put on the car. They saved me hundreds of dollars! I appreciated their honesty and felt like they weren’t trying to screw me over. I’ve been coming back to them ever since.
Also, I think it’s a huge plus that everyone is always so friendly. I always leave in such a good mood because everyone is so nice and helpful! :)
