Woo Tennis Lessons

David is amazing! I’ve had a few other tennis instructors since I started playing as a kid and David has been by far my favorite. He’s super patient and he will explain things in several different ways until one clicks with you. I like that his lessons are structured so you never feel like you’re wasting time but he’s still able to focus on the technical side. He’s very professional without being cold and I think that’s really hard to find. He is a clear favorite over the city’s selection of instructors.
He’s great with kids and the kids before me are really good. I’ve even had one of the parents tell me that their kids were with another instructor and once they switched to David they were exponentially better.
I’d definitely go back to David once my schedule frees up.

Yep — found David on Unilocal and decided to give him a shot based on the reviews. All I can say is they are all correct! He is a smart guy who has studied the game and can definitely help with everything from stroke mechanics to strategy. I’ve been around competitive tennis a long time and seen a lot of junior, college and adult coaches — David is one of the best out there.

I have been taking lessons from David Woo for almost a year now. This past weekend I won my first tournament! I had taken lessons in the past, and wasn’t a successful or confident player. David has made ALL the difference in my game. He really breaks down each stroke in a way that makes sense and is achievable. Through the learning process, David has been MORE than patient. He narrows in on any specific complications I have and tailors my lesson for me. David also introduces new teaching tools as they become available. Not only has he helped with lessons but also with choice in racquet, shoes, and anything else pertaining to tennis. David Woo is hands down the best teacher in O.C.

Great instruction for beginners. David breaks each stroke down in detail and explains the reasoning behind each step so that one can develop a strong understanding of sound technique. The lessons and tips provided are detail-​oriented and challenging. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to learn the game.

When I started training with David, I was a low level player without much knowledge of the technical aspects of tennis. I love tennis but was limited to chaotic rallies with my friends.
David is a teacher and he doesn’t just feed and let you make errors, like many of my previous tennis teachers. He actually takes the time to breakdown each stroke so we understand the technique, which really helps us understand why we make mistakes. He is also a very nice person. In the beginning, he was very patient in teaching us the basics and made it easy to understand big picture concepts (spacing and footwork). Now that we have trained with him for over a year, he expects more from us and pushes us to not be complacent.
One awesome aspect of the lessons is that David provides a video review of our strokes. He films us with his small digi cam and posts it on YouTube with customized little notes telling us what we did wrong and what we did right. It is REALLY helpful to see yourself on video and it helps me connect that with what David is actually telling me. I have never seen another coach do this — totally awesome and probably takes a lot of time to do!
I am starting high school in the fall and feel confident that I can make the high school team after training with David. We have touched on all the tennis strokes — forehand, backhand, serve, volleys, and overheads. I have improved immensely. I definitely recommend that you contact David if you are looking to learn tennis or fine tune your skills. His rates are very reasonable!

I have only just started training with Woo Tennis, but there is already a significant change in my tennis game. As a recreational player with no prior training, David immediately established a technical foundation for my strokes based on footwork, positioning, proper point of contact, and the swing. David is a great coach — encouraging, supportive, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, I could not ask for more. I am happy to say that for the first time since I started playing, I am confident in my backhand, not only in its technical accuracy, but also in its effectiveness. Thanks Woo Tennis!

Woo Tennis helped me improve a lot, even tough he makes you run a lot in the beginning. He gives u drills to work on to help work on your forehand, backhand, etc. Overall, Coach Woo is an excellent teacher.

My backhand has always been abysmal, but I never bothered getting any actual coaching help until recently. I originally went with Dave because he was the only local tennis coach I could find that didn’t charge crazy rates, but he’s actually helped me make a lot of subtle adjustments with my grip, footwork, and shot selection that has improved my previously awkward form into something much more fluid, and I’m glad I went with him.
Though my backhand is what has improved the most, he’s also been quite thorough with all the technical aspects of my game, with my serve and net play being the other two aspects that have benefited a lot. He’s also helped me read the court and manage my court spacing a lot better.
One neat thing he does is set up a tripod and record me as I play practice matches and drills with him. In addition to the feedback he gives me during our lessons, he posts these videos on youtube and adds annotations to them. This is actually great help — there’s nothing like being able to watch yourself make mistakes so you know exactly what to correct. I don’t know of any other local tennis coaches using this learning tool, but they should, because it’s pretty useful being able to watch yourself play and see the instant analysis.
I train with him in Fountain Valley, but I know he gives private lessons all over OC and parts of LA county to newbie and veteran players alike, and is also a high school JV/​Varsity coach.
Overall pleased with the improvement of my game, and I’d recommend him to anyone in the market for tennis lessons. He is a pretty nice and patient guy in general (very vocal with his encouragement, which reminds of me those volunteers all over the course that cheered me on as I ran the OC marathon last year).

I trained with David throughout summer looking to improve many poor aspects of my tennis game. I can honestly say that my consitency (which is probably the most important thing in order to win points) has improved by far. I used to hit much flatter balls but being taught by David, my spin has increased resulting with more balls in the court/​He knows all the fundementals to an effective kick serve and his drills are excellent. The drill definetley work you out and are extremley effective in improving feet movement which also playes a HUGE role for matchplay. He has many helpful techniques to improve reflexes and agility for those short balls or those shots that make you struggle. I definetley recommend David as he has helped me move up even though Unviersity High’s tennis team is extremeley competitive. 5 STARS!

Looking for a tennis teacher huh? got a great one right here. teaches everything. plus does stretching that stretches out every inch of your muscle so that its comfortable to play. he teaches basics, techniques, and strategy. i really got a lot better after starting to learn from him. hes nice and hes the guy in the white shirt and wearing the cap in the picture above. also hes a great tennis player himself.
