**Update** Still love The Butchery! I continue to be patiently taught about meat, cheese and wine. The staff here is always attentive, helpful and happy. Personable as well.
I am EXTREMELY happy that I have found this place!
The staff, especially Mike and his sister, were absolutely exceptional, knew their product and helped guide me to the right cut. I bought 3lbs Chuck Roast and their ground turkey and I will definitely be back for more meat.
Mike was amazing in his knowledge of cheese and wines and took quite a bit of time to help find me the correct wines for my taste; so far I am not disappointed!
I am so happy to see more places such this who support local agriculture and hormone-​free meat! And the prices are really quite good.

I’m not sure how I’ve never reviewed this place before as I’ve been coming here since it opened as The Meat House. I love everything about it: steak tips, chicken breasts, prepped and seasoned sides, filets, speciality meats, and most importantly the chicken wings. Those wings are killer and the way I do them on the grill… well I’d put them up to any other wings around. I’ve turned so many people on this place and they are now customers for life. It’s the quality and the awesome marinades that you pay for. They also have a very friendly and helpful staff. I prefer this location over the others. The small shopping center it sits in is a one stop shop for dinner (check out Produce Direct at other end).
For some reason I still haven’t tried their deli sandwiches! Soon enough though! Keep it up guys.

When my husband says «let’s stop by the butchery» I know he’s planning to prepare a great meal for us! Great selection of high quality meats, a nice cheese counter, AND even a large selection of craft beers and wine. I believe they will even butcher something that you bring in to them (may be worth looking into if you hunt or something). You can also order exotic/​rare meats that are difficult to find if that’s your thing. They have a bunch of vacuum sealed items that are great sides, some things pre-​marinated.

This place is outstanding. I came in today and purchased a cowboy steak and a filet. Both were very fresh. The flavor of the meat was the best I’ve ever had. It will be impossible to eat any meats from elsewhere after trying this place. I am very happy to have found this establishment. Exceptional customer service and high quality products.

Great placed with great customer service… They have high quality and harder to find cuts… they have a decent assortment of items you will need or can pair with the meat you buy. Customer service was great! I was asked multiple times if I needed anything or help finding something

Only disappointment to date is specific to the sandwiches. There is some room for improvement with the bread and quality of meats/​cheeses given the massive selection less than ten feet away.

The quality of products that The Butchery has is great. I love the prime baseball steaks, the lemon pepper chicken breasts, whole chicken, guanciale, and the great cheese selection. The staff will help cut your meat however you like (I usually get the backbone taken out of a whole chicken), and they are great at recommending good cuts of meat, or even cheeses. I highly recommend going in to take a look around!

This is my first not quite satisfying rating,
for my experience only, it should be two stars,
but they have been doing well usually for other customers,
I respect that and judge as a whole, therefore three stars.
I would like to make this not as a negative complain,
but as a positive constructive feedback to benefit them by
1, Analyzing the issue with fairness in mind,
2, Trying to think about ideas to solve it,
and propose possible solutions for them.
Well, here is what happened.
I asked if they have any grass fed beef,
and they said not in the show case,
but would get one from the back room,
So, I didn’t have a chance to take a look at it
before I buy.
After I bought it and returned home with excitement,
I opened it and found that
it was over aged, some dark gray surroundings, smells not fresh, and sticky a little.
I had to trim and threw away about one quarter of the $ 30/​lbs meat.
To make it fair,
it was still very tender and taste good.
And they were all very courteous and helpful.
Other shopping items like frozen patties and bones, were all good.
Now, in spite of all good comments from other customers,
why this time it didn’t work for me?
I guess the store is doing good job as far as
they deal with the regular grain fed meats most customers buy.
But the problem is that
only a few would buy the costly grass fed meats,
and therefore it’s hard to sell only the fresh ones.
Then, how about selling only certain days regularly,
like every month from 1^st to 7^th, and announce
it to the grass fed meat customers?
Or, when enough aging time comes to the end,
freeze them and sell only as the frozen meat?
That way, they don’t have to worry about
ending up with over stock old meat.
They can trim out the gray colored surroundings
before selling too, that’s an easy first step.
Anyway, It was my first shopping there,
I was very happy finding a place selling grass fed products,
and I was hoping to be their regular customer from now on,
and therefore even bought their T-​Shirt to support, oh well.
I hope this feed back will be welcome to them not as an offensive one,
but as a friendly, fair, helpful, and serious enough to consider one.

***Update*** the owners took the time to write me back, this shows true passion for their business. I stand corrected, they do carry Wagyu and many other fine cuts. BTW — my wife also loves the dark chocolate with pistachio.
Let me just say… the bone in pork chops are the best that I have ever had. I am a self professed meat head and I love my red /​white and poultry. The store is very welcoming and nicely set up. I have also purchased their steaks before, and on some level I wish they had more selection. I would love to see them carry Wagyu or Kobe, that said, their red meat is top quality and you can’t go wrong.
The staff is super helpful and almost too persistent in asking if you need help finding something… lol. Not a bad thing… they also have the best natural lump coal I have seen anywhere. companies like Green Egg tries to brand their lump coal and it’s a joke. Come get your lump coal here… they are large chunks all the way through.

The stellar reviews are consistent to what we experienced at The Butchery. This is definitely the place to buy if you want high quality meat. We came and got a good chunk of boneless rib eye steak for dinner. The shop is not huge but big enough to store and sell mainly various cut of fresh meat (as well as pre-​packaged meat), sausages, and Kabobs. In addition, they also have an adequate size counter for cheese (both hard and soft) which we have yet to try. They have have wine, imported condiments and some artisan bread to go with meat. While we were waiting to pay for our purchase, I was very tempted to try the Greek olive oil and balsamic vinegar they sell. Since moving back from Europe, we have not found a good quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It seem like they dont really sample the olive oil from the big barrel here or the balsamic but the cashier was really kind to make it happen for us. Both were pretty good though not bold enough. Its otherwise adequate for dipping. The other great thing about it is that you can reuse the bottles for refill for less on your next purchase (one step to zero waste). Yeep I am a fan.
And the meat, boy it was good! Very tender, juicy and tasted evenbetter than the dry rubbed steak we got from Flemings nearby. Ohhh yes we are absolutely both a fan of this place.

Solid guys. They know their product and are super friendly. However, stick with the meats. The sandwiches are nothing special. We tried a couple different sandwiches including the buffalo chicken, pastrami, and Italian. They weren’t terrible, but certainly not worth any sort of premium. You get decent bread, a step up from grocery store, but not artisan bakery stuff and Boar’s Head meat. Again, nothing that really wows you for the $ 10 price tag.

Once you start buying your beef from here, you will never buy meat from a grocery store.
My hubby LOVES the dry aged beef, which he gets every father’s day and b-​day, which is priced reasonably for the quality of meat.

The initial reason that I came here was because I was looking for pork back bones to make a certain dish, and I knew that this butcher shop in particular deals with a lot of pork. Well, they didn’t have what I was looking for, but I wasn’t about to leave empty handed either. Along with carrying different brands of high quality pork such as Duroc and Berkshire, this shop also offers a good variety of different cuts of pork.

I decided on some beautiful center cut boneless loin chops that I spotted in the display, and were about an inch & a half thick. This butcher shop, which is also a gourmet market with the high end products that one would expect, carries a full assortment of gourmet deli cold cut meats and cheeses. Fresh high quality chicken, both whole and cut up, along with some convenient pre-​seasoned cuts available.

Their prices on the dry aged beef from ‘Double R Ranch”, are reasonable. And it’s not everyday that you see a Cab dry aged Kansas City strip loin. I liked the lay out & the space inside, making things easy to find, with lots of friendly people behind the counter, ready to help, keeping things moving.

And because it is also a market with lots of different items, I picked up a bag of «Jackie’s» brand gourmet chocolate chip cookies for my daughter. At $ 7.99 for a 7oz. bag, pricey but worth it, she loved ‘em.
Unfortunately. The only thing that kept this from being a tale 5 stars, is the fact that my daughter had to use the restroom, and the cashier said that they did not have one. I know that there is at least an employee restroom available for staff, and not necessarily a public one. But she’s only 7 yrs. old, and had to pee. I could understand if it was a bus full of high school wrestlers, but, what evers. Too bad. I will still be back for some dry aged beef.

Meat the family. Want to cook good meat? Buy good meat. Here. They sell it, know it and will educate you on it with no airs. Go. Buy. Meat. Now.

The baseball steaks were phenomenally tender! MAN THESE GUYS ROCK!!!

Everything they offer is the best. From service to steaks, you will be satisfied. My daughter and I are here at least twice a week to pick up our usual lunch meat and cheese, but when it comes to suggestions the customer service is always helpful in getting you what you need.

Wow — I just made braised short ribs & they were amazing!!! After passing this butcher shop for months, I decided to finally check this place out today because it was *freezing* outside and i wanted to make some comfort food for dinner. I’m so glad I stopped in — the short ribs were so flavorful & fall-​off-​the-​bone tender – a truly great cut of meat! I consider myself to be a pretty good cook, but this dinner got RAVES! The quality of the meat was just outstanding!
I also picked up a loaf of bread there from O C Bakery — fresh, locally baked crusty bread… so yummy! I really like that they feature locally grown/​produced items.
I’ll definitely be back — And I really hope the locals support this business because now that I’ve found my new butcher I never want them to leave!

SO MUCH MEAT! They had a large selection of pre-​seasoned and raw meats. The staff was friendly and food was good. I took a star off because of the prices but overall, good experience!

Love this grocery store for their gourmet meats and many other items to compliment your next meal at home. It’s also a great spot to pick up a bottle of wine and charcuterie items on your way to a dinner party. The staff is über friendly and helpful. The owners or whoever buys for this place has incredible taste and does not compromise on quality.

The specialty products are confusing and the staff spends plenty of time explaining the product and the best execution for your maximum enjoyment.

This is the best place to go to purchase meats in the OC! Everything is local
They have all different types of meat marinated and ready to cook.
The house chicken and tri-​tip are really good.
They also sell various cheeses and make sandwiches using the meats, cheeses and other products sold in the store.
MY favorite sandwich is the turkey made with Humboldt Fog goat cheese. MUST TRY

The Butchery Quality Meats is my kind of shop.
If you are like me and enjoy shopping for superlative ingredients to make wonderful dishes at home with this place is extremely dangerous. In fact, you ought to figure you will be spending roughly $ 100.00 per bag (if not more) going into the store. The staff is incredible, offering great suggestions and pro tips for preparing anything you toss into your hand basket. Don’t know what to make for dinner? They do, just ask.
Foie Gras, Truffle Salt, 45 day aged Porterhouse, Artisan Sausage and Cheeses, Kansas City Strips, Tri Tips, Marinaded everything… these guys have it all. Do not see what you are looking for? Ask, they will hand cut it on premises for you at a moments notice. Remarkable thought goes into each item that the shop carries; the quality can be easily seen in each and every product in the store. Even their Craft Beer selection is impeccable, showcasing my all time favorites next to fun and obscure new brews to try.
I will be making it a point to stop at The Butchery Quality Meats any time I find myself at the Costa Mesa and Newport Beach border hoarding their fantastic offerings for the next weeks worth of home dining.

Awesome products and staff. I purchased some goat cheese sausage, cheese, Salami, and some veggies for the grill. It’s no doubt that they care what kind of product is being sold and they are so open to questions. The guys were patient as I meandered around the store. If you like artisan cheeses, you must try the moonlight which is made from goats milk, it was recommended by one of the guys. It has such a unique taste to it that words can’t describe. You just got to try it.

This place epitomizes «as good as it gets», as Unilocal identifies their five star reviews.
Is it expensive? Yep.
Is it quality product? YEP.
Is it worth it? Abso-​f-​ing-​lutely!
I love The Butchery as much as I love their cross-​the-​street neighbor, fishmonger Santa Monica Seafood. The good Lord has smiled upon little Costa Mesa.
I’m so grateful I moved to a community that has quality meat and seafood close at hand. I was a little worried coming from foodie-​land Chicago, to be honest. And you know what? I love it here. Albeit the pizza, but we can spar over that a different day.
BUTCHERY! You’re the best! I called in for short ribs, you had them, you brought the quantity I needed out of the back, they turned out delicious… I couldn’t ask for more!
This place is QUALITY with a capital Q and I will be back again and again.

Can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this place yet even though I’ve been here a hand full of times. I usually only come here to buy my dad a gift of awesome meat. What man wouldn’t love a nice juicy slab of meat to celebrate an occasion. I would highly recommend giving it as a gift because it’s funny, genius, unique, and so effing delicious.
The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly so any question is encouraged and they give super helpful tips. They are also great at conversation and giving out free samples.
Their cheese and deli meet is beautiful. The variety and the taste is just orgasmic. You can’t beat quality even though it’s pricey.
