I’ve said this for only one other company: if you are reading this, stop and call Ol Skool. Your search is over. I semi-​frantically called them and talked to John, and told him of a special project I needed done by a certain time: a mantel shelf for our fireplace. He got back to me within 24 hours, and came to look at my house and the project area. The fireplace and chimney are not what you’d call typical, and my wife and I really didn’t have any idea exactly what we wanted, but he had some excellent ideas and we went forward. He left not too long ago, in fact, and we were both looking at the mantel shelf, and said at the exact same time: «it looks like it’s always been there!»
We will be using Ol Skool for any other projects we have (and as owners of an aging home, you can bet we’ll have a lot!). Not only are they extremely professional and brilliant, but they are personable as well — John made us feel like we were his only customer (and we definitely weren’t!). Thanks Ol Skool!

I can’t say enough great things about John and his crew. I needed to build out and remodel a physical therapy clinic in Costa Mesa so I contacted half a dozen contractors for quotes, and was finally successful when I found John Foley with Ol School Construction.
He provided me honest quotes and the timeliness that I needed to get my business up and running. John and his crew really treated us like family and offered the peace of mind that I needed during the stressful time of rennovations at the office.
He completely remodeled the bathroom, built out the office with privacy windows, integrated modern lighting techniques with wall cut outs and windows, floors, industrial look and style, custom tv mount! I mean, John really went above and beyond with his ideas and precision to detail. He really made the office an extension of our home and every time a new patient walks through the doors they blown away with how great the clinic looks and feels.

This review is long over due. John and his crew were amazing. They were very professional, clean and focused on the details. My mid-​century home was in need of restoration after a years of mods that left it looking like a mixed bag. John was not only the contractor, he was basically my interior designer on the project. We put in all new floors, remodeled the kitchen replaced and opened up the windows and lighting. He even undercut the fireplace so the new hardwood would look perfectly original. The custom front door was the perfect touch and now we are working enclosing the front courtyard for entertaining. Thanks Ol Skool for the great work!

I hired John Foley and his crew on two separate occasions for various house remodeling projects — Ipe deck rebuild, re-​roofing our garage and fixed up the house for resale. I found him very organize, diligent and with an impeccable attention to details. Amazing work ethic and a strong drive to do the right thing. After not having much luck with a couple sub-​par contractors, I am so thankful to have John to take care of our needs. I highly recommend him.

It breaks my heart to write this, as John is a very nice, professional man, but he totally left me in the lurch when he went AWOL after a month of promising to restore my kitchen cabinets after a disastrous slab leak. As soon as demolition & mold remediation were completed by a remediation company, he stopped returning my calls & completely vanished, leaving me to find a new contractor to restore my kitchen. Luckily I hadn’t paid him anything, but the extended delay & inconvenience cost us peace of mind & ongoing aggravation of having to live without a kitchen for an extra month.
John, all you had to do was be honest & tell me you didn’t want the job. Is that too much to ask?

I cannot write enough about John Foley and Ol’ School Construction. After my Father passed away, I had the enormous task of getting the home that had basically had no work done on it for 30 years to bring it «back to life» for our family to move in. We gathered estimates from 7 contractors in the area, for a lot of home upgrades, repairs, and some remodels. Ol’ School, by far, was the most fair and reasonable. Beyond price, this company is ethical, and really cares about the work that they do. No job is too big or too small for John. He did everything from hanging towel racks, to knocking out a wall to create a home theatre. Not only does he do meticulous work, he has a vision for remodel. He had wonderful tips about colors and space. He also went out of his way to recommend where to purchase things for the best quality, and the best price. He was always accessible via phone or text, when I had questions or concerns. His crew were respectful clean and nice. I used them for tile, paint, new doors, windows, instillation, and everything in between. On his OWN Father’s Day, he showed up at our home to complete some work for my husband’s Father’s Day gift. Who does that?! Ol’ School is right. They don’t make contractors like him anymore. On another day, the dishwasher install guy was ready to leave, and John saved the day by enabling the unit to fit with our clunky Mexican tile. Our family was so impressed that I recommended him to friends and family. We plan to use Ol’ School for future outside and garage remodeling and work. They are the absolute best.

John Foley is one of the nicest, most ethical and superb general contractor’s I have ever worked with. My family is in the real estate development business and I have never come across someone so professional as John and the crew at Ol Skool. He helped my brother and I with a huge mold remediation job we had at our house in Laurel Canyon. His crews were always on time, they did excellent and expedient work and John has helped us out on numerous side jobs where he didn’t even ask for payment. Who does that??? Ol Skool is 100% my go-​to for anything construction or repair-​related in LA. They did cabinet repair, tile work, floor repair, roof repair, gutter cleaning — John and his crew DO EVERYTHING!!! Do yourself a favor and work with the kindest and most honest contractor LA has to offer.

So John and his staff were great. They helped me install some TV Wall mounts, huge whiteboards for our classrooms, ceiling mounts for our projectors, and a variety of other stuff. They are basically able to handle anything. The best part about John is his customer service. He’s truly a nice guy and very responsive to our needs and phone calls. I highly recommend him.

I hired Ol’ Skool for my parents’ kitchen remodel and I am so glad I did! I have been in the design and construction industry for nearly 20 years and, by far, John Foley and his team are one of the BEST! Their professionalism and expertise made the process a smooth one. The guys are able to fix ANYTHING… replacing windows, replacing the water heater that decided to bust during the middle of the remodel with a new tankless water heater, and even tackling our unforeseen, funky electrical issues.
