5 stars Because this complex by far has the Best… THE BEST Property Manager. Cassie is the best, hands down. I have lived in many complexes and nobody compares to how efficient she is. She is so considerate and handles any concern with a smile and genuine care. I don’t know how she is so efficient and takes care of so many residents. She is a super hero! Me and my wife were indifferent about the complex when moving in, as its slightly older than other complexes, but having Cassie as the manager made it worth way more than we ever imagined. She literally handles everything you can imagine so quickly and kindly.
Also, her maintenance staff Ricardo is equally a super hero. He almost always gets to service requests within a few hours and always within a day. He is always happy and goes above and beyond with helping. He keeps everything neat and cleaner than it was when he leaves and fixes everything. He is amazing. Between the two of them, they personally make this complex perfect. it has been my favorite place to live just because of how smooth they run things.
The other biggest pro here is the parking. Its never hard to find parking and also they allow one reserved spot along with an open spot, which we always get right outside of our complex. Guest parking is easy too. Its nice having guests over and not having to worry how they will park, or if they will get towed. We will def recommend this complex to our friends

I have been here for a few years and seen a lot of bad changes and good changes. Cassie is by far one of the best changes at The Missions at Back Bay. She is the best manager this community has had and part of the reason I’ve stayed. Ricardo is as well top notch. He is friendly to everyone and makes an effort to know everyone’s name. If I have a repair that needs to be done or help with changing a light bulb, Ricardo’s at my apartment in no time. Surrounding UDR proprieties could learn a lesson from these two. Great management and team work goes a long way. Cassie has made so many improvements for the better for this community. This is a great area for families and pets. The only thing I will complain about is when I first moved here three and a half years ago my car was towed by mistake. However the old manager was able to get it towed back and I did not even have to pay. Kudos to Cassie and Ricardo.

This is my second go around at Missions at Back Bay and I’m happy with my apartment. If they improved the parking process for visitors such as automating the parking pass system that would alleviate concerns about visitors getting towed. I would recommend Missions as a good place to live. People are pretty considerate and friendly.

Cassie is the best! She really helped me and my BF move out and into our dream condo. We love Missions at Back Bay soooo much, but we had a chance at a dream home. Otherwise we would have stayed at Missions and recommended (and still will) all our friends to come move in.
The other property managers have been nice but Cassie has been THE BEST. UDR made a great choice in making her Property Manager. And all the other tenants we spoke to thought Cassie was doing awesome!

Cassie is THE BEST Property Manager I’ve ever worked with. Ever! I have lived here 10 years and I’m now moving out. This is usually what tenants dread, but Cassie made the entire experience smooth and painless. She went out of her way COUNTLESS times to ensure my transition out was great. She kept my exit costs minimal and truly did what was in my best interests to sadly leave the apartment complex.
It is REFRESHING in this day and age to work with a 3^rd party representative like Cassie who truly has the best wishes of her tenants in mind, and is a genuinely nice person. I can’t say enough nice things about her… you will experience for yourself.
I wish I could clone her and have her manage any other properties I live at in the future.

This place is awesome :) I’ve been in a 1BR here for a year and just resigned for a 2BR. The management team is always friendly and super helpful — Blake rocks & is really on top of managing the property. I feel safe here and taken care of; Ricardo is the man at keeping the grounds up to par and keeping maintenance straight around the complex. I wish visitor parking was a little easier/​more available, and I wish there were washer/​dryers in the units because I’m not great at stashing quarters, but otherwise the price point is perfect, the apartments and bedrooms provide plenty of space, the pool is warm & always welcoming; I’m super happy with Missions at Back Bay! Bonus points to that Starbucks that just opened right across the street… :)

Ive one major problem: the apartment manager. I came to him with a problem and he was rude, sarcastic, snapped at me, and insisted I was lying. He picks and chooses which residents he will listen to and ignores or even picks on the rest of the community. My roommates and I felt so uncomfortable with him that we would have to wait until after hours, when he left, before we could check our mail. After contacted his supervisor and she in turn contacted him, I was then told that I was: very verbally abusive, irate, and he felt threatened by me. He, singlehandedly, made my experience at a UDR property miserable. If it wasn’t for Blake, I would have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would have considered renewing my lease. I would hope this is a special case and not the company’s standard for the managing positions at other UDR properties.

My family live here and I have watched this place go down Hill more and more every year. Now they rent to anyone. More break ins are happening not to mention the crackheads living here. No Exaggeration A Lady was chasing after an invisible animal 2 Days ago and the police took her away. I have caught her and her man peeping into people’s windows. My family has had many items stolen from their laundry and it’s no coincidence that the same people are always in the laundry room. I’ve lived in some scary places but there are some sketchy and scary tenants and every couple weeks a new and more sketchy tenant move in. I am truly scared for my family. The new management company clearly just cares about occupancy and not the comfort or safety of their tenants. They have made many promises and gone back on them. Disgusting. They should be ashamed of themselves.

We love living at missions at the back bay. the community is very quiet, the grounds are always well maintained. The maintenance is awesome never have to wait to get something fixed. We have a new manager that is top notch. Blake (the new manager) is always here and available. Addresses issues right away. Dog friendly and safe. I would recommend, as I have to family and friends and they moved in and agreed.

Great little apartment community however parking seems to be a major issue here! Guest parking is practically non existent. I have also heard of people having their cars towed?! Not a way to treat your residents or guests of residents!

I’ve lived here for almost 5 years, and am happy with my stay. We just bought a property, but had we not, I would stay here as far as apartments go. Relatively speaking (for Costa Mesa) the rent is affordable, and the location is very assessible. Maintenance was insanely easy, I would say that Ricardo is a great worker and on the ball with any repairs.
I’ve stayed in other apartments in Costa Mesa, so the neighbors are going to be to that standard, but in my opinion I would consider them more on the chill end of the spectrum.
We’ve had 3 different managers since I’ve been here, and I loved Donna, and the current manager Nick. He’s very responsive and accomodating to our needs, and very easy to talk to. Anytime we needed anything, he was always persistent to help out.
Great place to live if your searching in the area, I’ll definitely miss it!

My overall stay at Missions at Back Bay was great. Maintenance issues are quickly handled by Ricardo. Ricardo is very nice and always in a pleasant mood. The manager Nick is the best apartment manager I’ve ever had. Nick is warm and accommodating, yet he’s stern with no BS. Nick is also very quick to respond via phone and email; he even returns emails on his days off.
The property is well maintained. Pool is cleaned daily in the summertime. I lived on the pool, so there is a certain level of noise that comes with that; but overall, the community is quiet. While there are children who live here, they kept to themselves and are polite when interacting. Neighbors are also polite and friendly.
The laundry facilities are cleaned daily and there’s usually always an empty washer/​dryer anytime. The afternoons do get crowded, but it is very workable.
Parking if you are not a resident requires a pass. Nick was very good about supplying passes. Between picking up a pass and future resident parking, you can usually find a space for guests at anytime. There was rarely an occasion when a guest of mine could not find a space.
This community welcomes pets; I found that the residents were very good about picking up after their pets and mostly had their pets on leashes.
I would recommend living here. The community is quiet, fun, clean and affordable.

I have lived here for almost 2 years. I moved in when Donna was the Manager, and was still here during the Alyssa nightmare. I am still here for our new Manager Nick, he is working very hard on getting this place back to a great place to live. I have not doubt he will make this happen.

When I first moved in about 14 months ago, I was very happy here. Donna was a great manager, the place was quite & clean, Ricardo (Maintenance) was and still is wonderful and the neighbors great. After a wile however, the place took a little turn. More obscure neighbors moved in and the place started to feel more like living in the ghetto. Here are just a few things I encountered. Parking: A joke. There were so many occasions where I would come home to NO parking because residents would not want to get a parking pass for their visitors or wouldn’t want to park in their designated parking stalls. There was also a blue truck that was parked for about a year int he same spot before it was towed ONLY because they had to repave. Residents: Also a joke. The ones with dogs NEVER clean up after they potty. Nothing like a wonderful whiff of crap after a long day at the office trying to go home. on numerous occasions I would see drunk people passed out on the grass or in front of the bbq’s. My neighbor below me sold marijuana for a long time too. I loved coming home after being gone all weekend to an apartment that reeks of weed or the fact the traffic in and out of the place would carry on until the late hours of the night. My neighbor across from me was an alcoholic. Always knocking door-​to-​door looking to take the trash out for a few bucks or to bum a smoke. Family’s with kids let them roam wherever they want. Doesn’t matter if its in the parking area or just ripping off plants in the courtyard. Nobody is friendly there. There is no nice neighbor-​to-​neighbor contact there. Management: I liked Donna… kind of. She played favorites with the people she was friends with there. I always felt bad for her being sick and all but didn’t find it fair when she would refund a tenet a tow fee because they chose to park where they shouldn’t of been in the first place. Good luck getting anything out of her. The new girl they have is a total B**ch…she has he biggest attitude and could care less about anyone’s concerns there. Laundry: Don’t ever think about doing it on the weekends. Heaven-​for-​bid you leave it in there for longer then you should because you might get someone who steals your cloths or pours bleach on your things in retaliation. There is not enough units for the amount of people living there. Rent: going UP UP AND UP! I FINALLY moved because they were going to raise my rent $ 350 bucks. And they don’t pay any utilities, that are also on a «Sharing» scale. They also automatically take $ 300 out of your deposit when you move for various things so be aware of that as well. I feel like I could go on and on here but this is enough. I would NOT recommend moving here. Rent is too high for old and falling apart place with bitchy management and horrible residents moving in. Now, if you want crack smoking, annoying neighbors, management who doesn’t care and just a giant headache all together, then be my guest. I could move out fast enough… out of everywhere I ever lived, this place was the WORST!!!

THEY DO NOT RETURN SECURITY DEPOSITS WITHIN 21 DAYS!!! We are currently in a battle with UDR and Missions because they refuse to send us the remainder of the security deposit withing the 21 days REQUIRED by the state! Once we received a letter postmarked exactly 21 days later, we were informed that it would take an additional 2 – 3 business weeks for the deposit to be sent to us. I base this on principle. Even when they know they are in the wrong, the refuse to do anything to help you OR to even call you back for that matter. I have contacted at least 7 different people from as low as the property manager herself all the way to the manager & deposit person at their corporate headquarters in Denver… Hoping to get this resolved asap.

I agree with both of them. I have lived here almost a year and really hoping I can afford to stay alot longer. Living alone is very expensive, especially with the cost of rent in OC if you are west of the 405, and then add paying all expenses here and it adds up fast. Water, trash, sewer does fluctuate and I found out it is because it isn’t your usage it is the entire complex divided that you are paying for, so you can try all you want to be careful and it isn’t going to help unles everyone does! That is my ONLY disappointment or frustration in this place. Otherwise I totally love it. It is quiet, no barking dogs or yelling kids — althought they are both here, you can’t hear every little noise from your neighbors through the walls, maintenance is wonderful, Donna in the office is the best manager I have seen and I have lived in alot of apartments. My favorite thing is I live upstairs in the back, so when I look out my slider all I see is a golf course! The one bedroom is spacious enough for one person, kitchen is upgraded — like she said, nothing fancy, but I would rather have modest than noisy any day!

My review is EXACTLY the same as Ashely’s! My husband and I love it here. We’ve lived here for 2 years and would love to stay another, but the rent is going up, and since no utilities are included, they do fluctuate like hell!
For the most part the complex is simple, quiet with a friendly staff, hardworking maintenance guy and very quiet neighbors. The units have a great layout with lots of space, and the location is great as well. Nothing fancy, just modest living.

I’ve lived here a year now and I would actually stay another. The only reason I’m moving is because living alone is expensive. Management gave me a month long parking pass for my boyfriend just so he would be able to park within the complex. My only gripes are that the laundry area is coin operated and the utilities are not included so they fluctuate like hell even if you watch your usage.
This place was way quite except for the couple across from me who really need to break up already or shut their windows.
