As someone who works in the healthcare industry, I am super careful, aware, and picky of my health care services. I needed a new PCP closer to my work and with a schedule that fits mine so I chose this place. I was wary of the low rating, but I skimmed the reviews and… something I’ve learned about Unilocal reviews of medical offices is that patients complain about a lot of stupid stuff… some valid stuff, but mostly stupid stuff because they’re entitled =x They wait 10 minutes and they complain. The office doesn’t accommodate them, they complain. Don’t know/​understand their own benefits and learn that they have a high deductible and have to pay the contracted rate, they complain. Basically, if they don’t get their way, they complain.
That said, I called to make an appointment and was scheduled with Dr. David Chun. It was easy to get an appointment. For those who say it’s hard to get an appointment, if it’s urgent, go to Urgent care. If it’s an emergency, go to the ED. Otherwise, you can wait a week or so.
From start to finish, my entire experience was a positive one. Staff was friendly, verified my insurance prior, I had no billing issues whatsoever… Dr. Chun was punctual, friendly, thorough, and professional. He spent a good amount of time with me and I did not feel rushed. I was getting some panels/​labs done and needed a biometric screening verification form filled out for work (health and wellness incentives!), and Dr. Chun and staff made this process seamless. They also do the labs in-​house so I got my results back and uploaded to my electronic health record within 2 days. Dr. Chun completed the forms and left that for me up front as well.
Preventive services have NO COST SHARING (thanks, Affordable Care Act!), so just like that, I’m up $ 300 from my work for completing and submitting a validated biometric screening. Healthy BMI, check, health cholesterol level, check. I can now take my lab results and rub it in my bf’s face since it proves my hot Cheetos diet is jussssssssst fine.

My wife and I go to this clinic and see Dr. Kariya. She is an excellent, caring, down-​to-​earth physician that takes an interest in her patients. She communicates extremely well and always follow-​up with our visits. The Mychart app is an excellent healthcare tool and this group utilizes this. I’d give this office and Dr. Kariya (and the rest of the staff there) six stars if possible. Also, they have a lab on the premises making this a one stop medical care place. The wait is always short too. Highly, highly recommend!

If you are healthy and just need well/​preventative care they are great. If you have anything rare or complex or needing referrals this is a poor choice. Even referrals made by your primary to UCI/​St Joe’s or any teritiary facility will be denied.

I didn’t really like this place very much during my previous visit. Dr. Sheen’s nurse seemed confused!
This visit though, I was so lucky to get my physical done by a new doctor who just moved here, Rachit Doshi MD. He is very young, open and extremely helpful. I know it takes forever to get an appointment here but Dr. Doshi is worth it! He is very good with following up, listening to the patient and not rushing! Very valuable quality in a doctor these days!
I knocked a star because you have to make an appointment at least two weeks in advance and they don’t call to remind you the day before the appointment!

I might actually like this place if I could ever get in to see my doctor (or any doctor, for that matter.) The Urgent Care on Bristol in Newport Beach has largely become my primary doctor’s office because there are rarely ever any appointments available within a reasonable time frame at Memorial Care.
The people are always courteous and the facility is clean and nice. They’ve got that going for them. But I think I’m going to look into finding a new PCP. Unless I’m in a position where I can afford to wait a couple of days to see a doctor, this place is completely useless to me.

I came here yesterday (Saturday) for an appointment with a nutritionist. I was happy for a Saturday appointment…
The waiting room was pretty crowded, at 10:30am but they were moving people back pretty quickly. When I came out around 11:20, there wasnt anyone still waiting — the waiting room was actually empty.
My appointment was ok… seemed a little unprepared but I got the information I needed. It started a little late, and ended early… but like I said, it was ok.
The staff at the front was very friendly and helpful. Everything was nice and clean as well.

Everyone in this office is a shit head. They left me in the exam room for two hours, when I stepped out to jokingly ask if they forgot about me, they apologized and said they’d have someone in there right away. They FORGOT about me! Also, they lost a pee sample of mine and accused me of not doing it. Really? The nursing staff is absolutely retarded, they never call you back and have a constant attitude about them. Never going back and regretting sticking with this medical provider. Hopefully I get a new job so I can get different insurance bc I can’t deal with their bullshit. (Oh and their appointment setters are just as bad). I miss kaiser so much right now… If I wanted something done, my doctor would email with me back and forth and always get me in or they’d find another doctor to do it. The appointment setters were kind and would try to help you the best they could… I hate memorial care.

As a good big sister that I am I took my little sister to the doctors I understand we didn’t have an appointment but the wait was a little over two hours… Ridiculous!
The only thing they were fast at was collecting the co-​pay before you took a seat! All that wait… so she can just be told to drink liquids and cough drops. What a waste of time & money…

I was hoping my PCP at this place (Dr. David Chun) had his own Unilocal account so I could give him the one star he deserves.
This guy is a piece of work. I came in several times for the same issue that he failed to resolve (even after I basically spoonfed him on what to provide to help me). He continued to make me come in for more visits and continued to charge me copayments when it could all have been resolved in one appointment. He doesn’t care about his patients or providing them a solution to why they are there. It seems he was only after the $$$$. The guy is a prick and doesn’t even deserve the one star rating.
I am still going through the same issues I went to see him for 6 months ago and do not have time to continuously make appointments to go in for each and every feable attempt of resolution he provided.
Do not go see this clown.

DANGER!
I no longer could see my old psychiatrist because my insurance changed, so I made an appointment with a doctor just to get a prescription until I could meet with a psychiatrist covered by my new plan.
I walk in… there’s no one at the desk. I wait around… someone comes out an tells me to wait. I go in… and wait. The place is DESERTED. A doctor comes in and let me tell you, this man–
–never makes eye contact
–doesn’t ask me any questions
–does not verify my past prescriptions of these psych meds
–does not verfiy one of my prescriptions that is OVER the normal max dose
–GIVES ME 12 MONTHS OF REFILLS******************
Any decent psychiatrist will insist on seeing you AT LEAST every three months to monitor psych meds, not only due to possible psychological consequences, but to check for the symptoms of physical consequences — like liver damage.
Now, I was honest about what I was taking and why, but I expect a doctor who has never seen me to either A) verify that I’ve been taking those medications, or B) have a long enough conversation with me to ascertain that they are appropriate. Who knows what he would have prescribed me… what if I had just walked in and said my previous doctor had me on benzodiazepines (think Valium), amphetamines (think Adderall), or heck, what if I said I was taking OxyContin?
ALSO, HEADS UP LADIES:
I was having what I call Lady-​Issues and the appointment line said I would actually have to go see a primary care physician before I could see a gyno! Are you kidding me? A medical group that doesn’t think I know when I need to see a gynocologist? AND is willing to postpone my diagnosis and treatment goodness-​knows how many days so they can get two co-​pays instead of one?
So, I switch to Talbert Medical Group. I found and met with a psychiatrist who insists on monitoring my medication every month and talks with me for an hour every appointment. I continue to have Lady-​Issues and Talbert Medical Group gets me in to see a female gyno in 3 days or less every time.
MemorialCare is no good, my friend.

Patient beware. They run tests on you that are not necessary so they can put more money in there pockets. Dr David Sheen in Costa Mesa runs tests and doesn’t even tell the patient what tests are being run and then you get a massive copay from the blood department. Shame on you.

The office staff are discourteous in-​person and over the phone. They are unprofessional and short with customers. Most act like they have something better to do. It is unfortuante that my doctor moved here from the Irvine location, as I cannot stand dealing with this staff. Completely unhelpful!

This place is a joke. My first primary doctor was Dr Lynn. He left and I was transferred to Dr Lee. Within 6 months, he left. Then I was assigned to Dr Kariya. I tried to make an appt, but then she was out on medical leave. I had to go to urgent care 6 months later, and they referred me back to Dr Kariya for an annual checkup. I made my appointment, and then the day of they called to cancel because she was out again. It would be great if Bristol park could learn how to keep a doctor around for longer, because every time I switch I have to go over my medical history all over again. Also, if I need a refill on my prescription, they make me come in and pay my copay every time because the new doctor hasnt seen me yet!
They have had my x-​ray results for over 24 hours and I have called twice to find out what the results are. The doctors and nurses don’t call you back, and their answering service is extremely rude. I have been treated like a call center customer and basically told that because it’s not «life threatening» they are «too busy» to call right back. Nice to know I’m not important unless I’m dying, and if I were in urgent need, I sure as hell wouldn’t call Bristol Park for help. The front desk staff clearly doesn’t want to be there because they seem miserable and are not friendly. And last time I was there, I waited for over 30 minutes because she forgot to hand my chart to the doctor.
I am trying to switch doctors, but Bristol Park also took 9 months to send my medical records which makes it difficult for a new provider to be able to treat me. If you haven’t already had the displeasure of being stuck with Bristol Park, find somewhere else while you can.

Dr. Kim is by far my favourite doctor in the world. And that means a lot coming from me, I HATE doctors. He is kind, patient, helpful, and understanding. When I don’t have much to report (I see him about once a month) we talk about books.
His nurse, Veronica, is really sweet and caring as well. She always takes time to say hello to me and see how I am doing, even if she didn’t have the time to check me in herself. They make a wonderful team. When I have a good visit (generally a result of having a good month) they compliment me on how great I look and seem to mean it. In my opinion they embody everything that a doctor and nurse team should be.
To say thanks I’ve written them thank you cards and given them both hugs, but that’s just kind of who I am. I’m grateful when people do what they can to help others and these two go above and beyond on a regular basis.
The rest of the staff is about standard for a doctor’s office. The one thing that bothers me more than anything else is that there are some people in this office (at the reception desk to be more precise without naming names) that seem like they want to be anywhere but here. The only one I’ve never had any problems with is Carlos. He gets people the messages that they need to get and follows up to make sure things get done. The others, however, seem to be missing something in the way they do things. They are severely lacking. I’ve left messages that Veronica never received. I’ve called and never been called back. I’ve mentioned it to Veronica and on occasion Dr. Kim as well, and they have both been appalled at how many times I had to call.
The saving grace about the «support» staff at this office is that I can now bypass them completely by using NextMD. I can email Dr. Kim and Veronica directly and I know that they are getting my messages. For non-​urgent matters, NextMD is the best service that Bristol Park provides. And, I have the piece of mind knowing that if all else fails, I can always just go in and ask to speak with Veronica directly.
I lived in San Diego for about a year and refused to switch doctors because I would rather make the hour and a half drive up than to find another team that is amazing as Dr. Kim, Veronica, and Carlos.

I love this facility! After a few years with Kaiser, I grew very tired of all of their red tape and impersonal service. Going in for women’s appointments is not fun to begin with, but to get a different doctor every time does not make it any easier.
So I changed insurance providers, and found Dr. Kuriya at Bristol Park Medical Group based on a friend’s recommendation. I am so happy that I made the switch! Not only do I get the same doctor every time (which is huge in my book), but they take my questions and concerns seriously. They don’t make me feel like an idiot when asking questions about blood pressure or prescriptions or anything else. They call when my insurance wants to make changes to my prescriptions, even if they are minor changes. They take time to make recommendations for me.
Not only that, they are super prompt. I never have problems getting prescriptions filled, and they always answer my calls or messages. They use an online service, which I like because it’s often late at night when I remember to do things, and that way they can just call me back with an appointment or answer to my question. But they also will help you out if you just give them a call. They are so prompt that today I went online to request an appointment, and before I even got a confirmation email that my request had been received, they had called me back to confirm an appointment time.
Dr. Kuriya is amazing, and always takes a few extra mintues to talk with me, as do all the nurses. I’ve never been a fan of going to the doctor, but they make it bearable and make me feel more comfortable. I highly recommend this facility!
