Dropped by last Saturday to inquire about JR Rail passes, spoke with Aiko who explained the different pass options that were availble based on our travel needs.
Also asked her about travel tips, she was kind enough to share her personal expereinces — this is appreciated!

I was searching online to purchase the Japan Rail pass, which according to everything I read had to be purchased outside of the country, and after looking around, Iace had the best price and luckily, they had a location in Orange County, so I called right away and spoke to a nice lady who explained what it does and how to purchase it. I paid for them over the phone on my credit card, and she informed me that I can pick them up the following day.
I went to their office and spoke to another very nice lady at the counter and got my passes, she explained how to exchange the vouchers for the actual JR pass and where to do that once I arrive into Japan. She was very clear and even asked me about my travel plans and gave me some advice. It was very helpful.

I have used JTB for the past 5 visits I have made to Japan. Because they closed the office in the Mitsuwa Marketplace, I decided to try IACE. We were booked on to an overnight flight via Delta, so we had connecting flights set up for domestic flights in Japan. Found out soon after the Delta flight was canceled. We could take a daytime flight if we wanted and there would be no fee; however, we had arranged those connecting flights with JAL which could NOT be canceled. The Delta flight cost about $ 835, but we had to rebook with ANA for just over $ 1100. Aaarrrgh.
Next problem was that the hotel room in Osaka had only one bed. We felt there should have been two beds. It also was on a smoking floor. The hotel room in Kochi was also on a smoking floor. We thought that was crazy. There were 4 non-​smoking floors but only one smoking floor, and we ended up on it! I think maybe the travel agent should have asked us about that.
Another issue was we could not pay for our rooms beforehand like we did with JTB. We were also disappointed not to have had breakfast included in our hotel package. We would have paid for it if asked.
For our next trip we are going to work with JTB through their office in Torrance and online. We did not realize that other travel agencies do not have the perks they have. The JTB people are just much more helpful. We were told, for example, if it was realistic to travel from one location to another in a single day. We were given suggestions re places to visit. We always get contacted by the staff when we return from Japan to see if everything went smoothly. The people at IACE are nice peope, but I don’t think they helped us at all. These days a person can get their plane tickets online, and we could have done that all by ourselves. We had hoped for the same kind of service that JTB has provided, but it did not happen.

Having lived in Japan for 12+ years, my Dad would always call IACE Travel to book our vacation tickets. Since I moved to California and my parents still live in Japan I take a trip out to visit them every possible chance that I get. I was surprised to find that there was an IACE Travel only minutes from my house. Since then, I use them every time I need to get a ticket to Narita.
The staff at this location are incredible. Their customer service is outstanding and they always go above and beyond to make sure that you get a great deal! I remember a few times where I wanted to book a ticket, but needed to consult with my Dad before making the purchase. It was early morning in Japan and I couldn’t get a hold of my dad. The lady understood that the time difference was a pain in the ass and she held my ticket for me until I was ready to make the purchase! I was so relieved!
Once you’ve purchased through them, they keep your name and address on file. So the next time you come to buy a ticket they have all the information they need. All you need to do is give them your credit card number and they will send all the paperwork to your house.
If you go to their website, they have great discounted airfare on airlines like Korean and Singapore. I personally ride Korean Air every time! Make sure you book early because the best deals go fast!
If you want to be stress free when planning your next overseas vacation. IACE is the way to go!
