Honey & Butter Macarons

Super sad and disappointed that I couldn’t try these. Maybe Unilocal time was wrong, waited outside for quite a long time and they were still not open at 12 o’clock on Saturday. I was not the only one waiting and disappointed outside.

Five stars for the macarons! 3 for the parking situation and the small store at The Lab.
If you are visit the Costa Mesa location, make sure you get there early as the lines can get long and the character macarons tend to sell out quickly. Also, when they are sold out for the day, they will close the shop early. It is useful to follow their instagram to see when they are open/​sold out.

Went to the soft opening and was one of the first in line! I’ve been looking forward to this location opening, so I’m glad we were able to make it, even if it is for a soft opening! Everything in there is adorable, the location is clean, and the macarons are delicious. Regular macarons go for $ 2, character macarons go for $ 2.75, regular creamarons are $ 5, and character creamarons are $ 6. Their ice cream is also made in-​house and soooo gooood.
Diabetes does not get any cuter than this.

As a macarons lover, I recommend this place :). If you are in the area, or looking for a place to get macarons, you should definitely give Honey & Butter a try!
Their macarons are super cute & delicious too! The shell is hard outside, but soft and chewy the inside, the filling texture was smooth and sweet. They have a lot of different characters, the Tsum Tsum characters are so adorable! But if you want to get character macarons, you should come early, because their character macarons sell out pretty fast. My favorites were Matcha Green Tea, Passion Fruit, Chocolate, and Salted Caramel.

I’ve been wanting to try this place out for ages after stalking their Instagram for so long! Even for a Friday they can sell out within hours of being open and there was a line when we got there around 1PM, but it didn’t take too long. I was lucky enough to snag some of the totoro macarons although I think some of the other characters were already sold out. Not only were the macarons undeniably adorable but the flavors were actually really good too! I actually think these taste better than Lette, and the flavors are much more interesting and strong as well! I’ll need to make this a permanent detour every time I go up to LA from now on.

I came on a Sunday at around 1pm (nervous that they would run out of character macarons), but the wait wasn’t that bad even though I was probably 20^th in line when I lined up! Waited for about half hr in the hot hot sun, but a girl brought out ice cold water, which was so refreshing (and much needed).
Each person is limited to 6 character macarons. Regular macarons are sold, free box when you purchase 6, 12, 16 for $ 12, $ 24, $ 32 respectively.

French toast– adorable with small toasts on top, tastes like Cinnamon Toast Crunch
Pistachio– special flavor, one of my favorites, very strong pistachio flavor with pistachio nuts!
Matcha green tea– green tea and creamy
Churro– interesting, just like a churro, beautiful with goldfish glittery macaron cookie
Salted caramel– rich and tasty
Enchanted berries– enchanting, no kidding! Such strong berry flavor
Everything tasted great and was so cute and pretty. You could tell they put a lot of thought and attention to detail into each macaron. It’s recommended that you keep the macarons refrigerated. And I ate the last macaron a whole week later, and it was still good! Pretty impressed!

My friends and I dropped by Honey & Butter after our fantastic brunch at Habana. They’re located at the back of the LAB in a tight, small trailer. I’ve never heard of them, but friends wanted to pick up those oh so cute character macarons. Turns out they ran out for the day, but that’s fine by me because I just wanted normal macarons and picked up a pack of 6 for 12 bucks.
There are plush animals near the entrance and window. The case of macarons was towards the back with 2 lovely women ready to take your order. My favorite flavor of my 6 was the salted caramel, but all the flavors I got were very good. Next time I’m at the LAB I’ll be sure to get more. I just have to get there early enough before they run out!

This place is located in the LAB, in a tiny trailer like shop near where all the parking is. There was a line to get into the trailer shop, because it is rather small and can only house a handful of people at a time. The décor inside was really cute and nice though, and the overall feel of the place was very cute.
I wasn’t expecting much at first, I assumed the macarons were just really cute looking and wanted to get them mostly for how cute the characters were. However, after eating the macarons I was pleasantly surprised by how great tasting they actually were. The macarons were really on point, from the nice shell of the cookie to the filling, I enjoyed basically all the parts and found them to be delicious!

While passing through to Los Angeles i wanted to stop by this place so many times to try their cute and delicious macarons. I have to admit that i came here hoping to be able to buy their cute daily character macarons. (Disney tsum tsum inspired macarons) I was disappointed that they are only available at a certain time and usually sell out within the first hour of being brought out.
Honey and Butter is actually sold at a small trailer but soon will be opening a store at the spectrum. I can’t wait to come back to Irvine to hopefully get one of the adorable character macarons.
If you’re looking for what their macarons taste like, theyre absolutely delicious! My favorite was the churro and nutella.
I recommend this place for anyone looking for desserts that are cute as they are sweet!

I cannot believe I haven’t written a review for Honey & Butter! This is my favorite macaron place thus far! I’ve been avoiding going here though because every time I go, I spend about $ 30 and it adds up when you go once a week. I can’t help myself though. The macarons are so good! All of the flavors are so yummy!
Anyway, I couldn’t resist going today because they had Pikachu and my beau and I were already in the area. We got there around 11:45 and there was already a line. One of the staff members came outside with water for everyone who was waiting. I thought this was a really nice gesture. Another staff member also offered a sample of their milk and honey macaron. Right before opening, the same staff member informed us that there was a limit of 7 character macarons per person so that there’s enough for everyone. The trailer is really small so they only allow 3 – 4 people in at the same time. We were maybe the 4^th group of people to enter the trailer. It took about 15 minutes after opening to get to the register. Everyone in front of me came out with bags full of macarons.
I’ve had A LOT of Honey & Butter’s macrons. A LOT!!! I’ve tried almost all of their flavors and I can honestly say they’re all very good. Anyway, this time, my beau and I ordered 4 character macarons: pooh bear (matcha green tea), Baymax (milk & honey), Eeyore (oreo), and Pikachu (milk & honey) for $ 2.50 each. The first time I got the character macarons, they’re just too adorable to eat, but then you get over it because they’re so delicious. Btw, they’re best served chilled, and will last up to 3 days in the refrigerator according to the staff at Honey & Butter. (Although I’ve kept mine in the fridge for a week before and they were still pretty delicious.

Friend got one for me before so I always wanted to come try it myself. The price for each macaron is about regular to mid-​price so it isn’t bad. I believe the character ones are pricier.
Came here on a wed for the first time and didn’t know their cartoon ones were that popular that they will be sold out on a regular weekday.
BUT I still bought some regular macarons that don’t have designs. I got churro, salted caramel, tiramisu, French toast, Black sesame, and Hazelnut.
You would think that this place is just popular because they have macarons with cartoon characters and they prob taste eh. BUT surprisingly, their macarons are pretty good! It’s got the soft center with crispy outer shell. Each macarons have their unique flavors and taste as the name described. The only downside I think is that their macarons are a bit too sweet in comparison to a well-​made macaron but overall, it still meets the standard of a macaron.
I will def come back for the character macarons!

Come 30 minutes before they open and you might just be the first one in line. People don’t play when it comes to cute desserts! Someone once said presentation is everything and it is absolutely true in this case. I came solely for this reason and I can say confidently that these macarons not only look good they also taste good! I can tell there was a lot of care when these macarons were made and I can sense it in every bite that I take. Every flavor I tried, there was not one that I did not like and that is saying a lot. I usually think macarons are sweet but these are perfect! The milk and honey one is definitely my favorite. It is so simple, yet so good.
So what are you waiting for? Search up their Instagram, find out what characters they are making for the week, and be prepared to have your tastebuds and eyes wowed.

The main reason I visited Honey & Butter was the ‘cuteness’ of the macarons. Often I find macarons too sweet, so black coffee is a must. Depends on the favor, Honey & Butter adjusted the unique favor in par with the level of sweetness. I found the macarons just perfect and wanted more after I ate one. At this time, my favorite is passion fruit & sesame. That’s because I have only tried 4 different favors. Hehe. The passion fruit almost tasted like yuzu. The sesame favor was so distinct that I ate the whole thing before I could share. Oops.
There wasn’t too many cute characters to choose from when I was there. I was hoping for bear or pikachu. $ 2.50 for characters and $ 2 for regular. I appreciate the macarons were home-​made, individually wrapped and I actually understand the simple ingredients listed. Honey & Butter is by far the best macarons place in Orange County!

I enjoy trying out various location’s macarons and OF COURSE I HAD to hit up this spot out in Costa Mesa when I got the chance. I came here a couple of times and each time I arrived, the line is out the door filled with people buying boxes and boxes of these yummy goodness!
Physically located on the same lot as Habana (cute Cuban restaurant), the storefront is well, not an actual storefront, but instead a very cutely decorated van/​trailer hollowed out and serves as their place for people to walk in and check out their accumulation of cute items such as tsum tsum dolls, displays of their previous macaron creations and other eye candy.
The current flavors of the day are written up on the chalkboard next to the register for people to look at while they wait their turns (and hopefully the ones you want will still be available when you reach the front). As flavors are quickly sold out, they will cross the flavor off the chalkboard as well. Additionally, they also have a THEME of the day which consists of their creation of characters from animes, Disney cartoons, etc. that they create specifically for that day. You can follow them on IG and they will announce what the character of the week are so you can prepare yourself in advance if you’re really wanting to grab them that day.
Parking: Horrible! Since they share the lot with the Habana Restaurant, it is fully packed majority of the time. So try to be a little patient as you look for parking as even though the lot looks big, it’s still pretty tight parking spaces and people don’t leave as quickly as you want.
Prices: A little expensive for just macarons, but if you want to splurge, what better way to surprise your gf than with cute decorated character macarons?
Overall, just have a little patience with finding parking, lining up (as its pretty busy from when they open at noon to when they sell out (when they sell out, they just close the shop since they only make so much inventory in a day) — so make sure you call if you’re heading there later in the afternoon; and hopefully your hard work will be rewarded!

This is totally a great instagram worthy place. The macarons are pretty cute! The best part is that their macarons are really delicious too. Some places, their food just looks good, but tastes bad. Not the case for Honey and Butter!
I got a couple character macarons and green tea macaron. The green tea taste was very distinct and didn’t taste artificial at all. The macarons are reasonably priced as well. $ 2 for regular and 2.50 for character ones.
Make sure you get here early cause they will run out of character macarons about 30 mins after they open! I came just in time and managed to grab a couple. There were only a few left after I ordered mine!
Parking can be a pain, but if you are patient you will eventually find a spot once people start leaving!

Hands down one of the most poppin’ macaroon places ever. Not only are they so cute but they taste amazing. Gotta give these people props, macaroons are not easy things to perfect, let alone design them in such a cute way! I’ve tried making macaroons before and they were a crackin mess.
They have different character cartoons and vary on the days, you can check their Instagram for the schedule. They also let you know what time they run out of certain things just in case you were about to bust a mission and to get your feelings hurt. They also have non character macaroons as well.
The workers are so nice! I remember one time they ran out and I was so sad. But I guess Lowkey they had one left and ended up giving it to me, you don’t understand how happy that made me. They also gave me a small little water bottle to drink as well. I literally sat in front of their little trailer store and ate 10 macaroons in one sitting. Shout out to good customer service !!
Parking is hell though! My boyfriend parked at pep boys, don’t do that if you wanna fight anxiety and fear while in the long line waiting to get your macaroons. They only let about 3 people in at a time.
I’ve been here about 2 – 3 times and I always buy so much each time. I will be returning in the future !

Was suggested to try out this place on our last trip down to SoCal with best friend. She had been looking into it previously and stated how they have limited amounts, opens at noon daily, usually have people waiting… but sounds like the normal limited quantity item right?
This place is located in «The Lab» … essentially one of those «hipster» places… Located on the corner after you turn in before you hit the «larger» parking lot. Easily to spot. Its a metal tow-​style trailer. Super nice and friendly attentive staff. Handing out waters to the people waiting.
Simple style. None of the macaron’s are made on site. They have single, simple macarons of various flavors (flavors may vary) and character macarons (limited 1 per style per person). Prices are $ 2 for simple single macarons and $ 2.50 for character macarons. They only allow 3 people inside at a time (height and space issues)… YES height… if you are tall, WATCH YOUR HEAD ! *rubs forehead*
Flavors are nice. Not too sweet. Characters are super adorable. Pandas, disney characters like baymax, etc. … Good place to check out if you got some time in the morning. We got there about an hour prior to opening and there were 3 people ahead of us.
Tip: if you are like us and are from out of town, and weather permits (nice cool weather, not too warm). they will last in a cooler with some ice in a bag until you get home a day or so later. They do recommend refrigerating but we didn’t have a fridge in the hotel but they lasted the way home. Lasted quite the long time in the fridge at home after too. They state no preservatives and something else too (forgot…) that doesn’t permit it to last as long as some other ones …

I always try to come at off hours so I don’t have to stand in line. I don’t really feel the need to get character macarons all the time because I’m gonna eat em anyways… but it’s true I’ve given in many times and get one every now and then because they’re so cute!
Regular macarons are $ 2. Character $ 2.50-$ 3. They all have different flavors so it’s always a pleasant surprise!
The macarons are delightful. They have a great crunchy texture. Not overly sweet and the fillings are creative and delicious. They do have some run of the mill flavors like earl grey. My top two flavors from here are French toast and enchanted berries. French toast is a creamy filing flavored just like French toast. Enchanted berries is very tangy.
Parking is horrible sometimes. Especially on the day with special character macarons so be prepared to wait.
Service is on and off. When it’s the busiest I’ve actually had the best service. When they were slow not as much.

Since macarons have gotten popular, I’ve gained a whole new appreciation for them. Knowing that they’re not the easiest thing to make definitely adds to that.
Earlier on, I wasn’t big on them because the versions I’ve had seem like nothing more than a sugar puck filled with sweet cream of some indiscernible flavor. Since then, people have been upping their game (imho) and I’ve been really enjoying macarons.
Honey & Butter is one such example. I’ve been getting poke bowls at Calipoke and realized that the line of people outside the adorable Airstream trailer was for Honey & Butter, a place I’d heard of for a while now but never bothered to try. Finally, I made up my mind to check things out while still picking myself up a poke bowl ha ha.
I was second in line when I moseyed over with my bowl at about 11:39am (they open at noon on weekdays). By the time they opened, there were about 15 – 20 people in line. I have to admit, I got a little antsy when they didn’t open until 12:05pm. The cold water they pass out beforehand, however, does help a little.
They allow the first three people in the trailer and everyone after that will fill out order slips which is smart because it speeds things along when the salespeople can pre-​assemble the boxes and have them ready by the time your turn rolls around.
I bought a pretty good variety (3 boxes of 6 and 6 characters). Though I haven’t tried them all just yet, the ones I’ve had are pretty darn good. Favorite so far is the passionfruit. It tasted of fresh passionfruit and was just such a perfect morsel. The sea salt caramel and milk & honey were also very good (though I felt the milk & honey was very sweet).
Everyone ooh’d and aah’d over the character ones and, to be honest, I could barely bring myself to eat them. But when I did, it didn’t matter so much what flavors they were… cuteness tasted really yummy.

We usually go to South Coast Plaza and hardly go south of there; today we decided to find this place that has been on my bookmarks list for so long. Who knew it would exist in a hippy/​hipster plaza? The plaza, called The Lab, is very nature-​y and artsy, which is pretty neat, but you know it’ll be expensive (much like 4^th Street Market, Anaheim Packing District, Union Market at the District at Tustin Legacy, etc)
This little shop is actually a small Airstream trailer. The employee working there seemed very nonchalant and snooty, telling me that everything you see here is what you get, and after I asked him what he recommended, he said the Dark Chocolate Salt Caramel was popular, and that «if you don’t like dark chocolate, there’s not much I can do about that». strange attitude. You would think if he worked somewhere this cute, he would be chipper.
Macarons are $ 2 and the character ones are $ 2.50. There weren’t any character ones available when I went but I am definitely satisfied that these macarons were a good and reasonable size for $ 2. We got the French Toast macaron and the Sea Salt Caramel macaron (blue in color). The whole ambiance is very adorable with the Tsum Tsum dolls, but I probably wouldn’t come too often because of the difficult parking! I don’t really belong in a hipster garden and am just trying it to say I’ve tried it. But it isn’t something special enough for me to come all the way here for. $ 5 for a dozen Trader Joe’s macarons is a great deal for me already! :)
