History

Established in 1937.

This one of a kind destination nursery and Century Farm began in 1937 when William and Corlie Schmidt started a nursery for their daughter Garland. Back then, Garland Nursery specialized in only four plants, Camellias, Chrysanthemums, Magnolias and Rhododendrons. Garland’s only son Donald expanded the nursery to what is it today. With the help of his wife Sandra, they began to carry Annual and Perennial plants as well as more trees and shrubs. They even turned the old milking barn into an indoor gift and garden store. The old concrete troughs can still be seen after 71 years. Donald also started the Landscape Design department.

All three of Donald and Sandra’s children are now owning and operating the nursery. Brenda, an OSU graduate in Horticulture, manages the business office. Lee, a licensed Landscape Architect graduated from LSU in Landscape Architecture, now manages the design department specializing in up-scale landscapes. Erica runs the customer service and buys the hard goods
