I wouldn’t recommend the shop. Terrible customer service. Rude staff. Store manager is arrogant. Wanted to buy a bike from them and simply walked out.

I had been working next to city cycle for years and had always thought that I could never afford a quality bike. As soon as I walked in I was approached by Bob. I had given him my thoughts on my budget and riding style. He was attentive and enthusiastic with my needs. He showed me bikes from the lower to the higher end. Which really put things into perspective for me that I could understand. It may not be today or the next but Im sure that I will take my bike needs to them. Thank you again Bob and the rest of the staff.

Bob and Scott are a dynamic duo. Scott set me up with a Trek Domane 4.5 and Bob did my bike fitting and I couldn’t be happier. They both know how to take care of the client and they have earned another loyal customer. Thank you both and I look forward to a long relationship!

I had an issue with a non-​City Cycle rental which one of the staff very kindly took care of for me and my wife. Although I can only comment on the customer service at City Cycle, I was extremely impressed with their manner and knowledge, and will happily return there in the future.

I met Bob in a San Rafael parking garage recently. What a genuinely nice man! I’ll be referring anyone who needs anything bicycle related to your shop from now on. You’ve restored my faith, Bob.

What a great place. Went up to the north bay for a ride and forgot my helmet. Stopped here and while they don’t normally rent helmets, they just let me borrow one they use for demos at no charge. (Bought a few accessories, though — good selection at fair prices). Chris who helped me was super friendly. I’ve been to a lot of bike stores and dealt with plenty of bike store attitude. Not here! Highly recommended!

Bought expensive kid bike but was treated with arrogance and disinterest. They would have sold a helmet that clearly didn’t fit.
Bob the General Manager was clearly annoyed at us, since one of his coworkers had given us an appointment for fitting and had missed to let Bob know. We bought a $ 650 bike for my nine year old girl, and I had hoped they would take the time to adjust it to her body. He clearly was annoyed, maybe since he hadn’t expected to do another fitting an hour before closing. I had to constantly ask for everything. He didn’t want to take the time to adjust her seat properly, adjust her brakes, everything was done only after I asked about it. Unbelievable.
The worst was that he would have sold her a helmet that clearly didn’t fit her, as he acknowledged when I pointed it out. He didn’t even have the decency to care for her safety. I am still in shock about this.

As busy as I am I feel the time must be made to comment on the extraordinary service I just experienced thanks to Bob Campbell at City Cycle.
I went in for a road bike fitting and was not only impressed with Bob’s expertise but his enthusiasm for what he does coupled with his «bike-​side manner» truly set the standard for customer care.
Without question I would recommend everyone I know to visit City Cycle for their bike needs and if at all possible find Bob. Two greats in one trip.

I was looking for a particular Trek bike and remembered seeing City Cycle in Corte Madera. I decided to go in and see if they had this particular bike and it was on a Monday. I met with a great guy by the name of Mike and started picking his brain. He was extremely helpful and started looking around the country for this bike. I left a business card with him to let me know if he has any luck. Wow it didn’t stop there. I was then contacted by their sales manager Scott on Tuesday to say they found the bike in Los Angeles and would ship it and I would get it next week, great right? Well the hits just keep getting better. I was then contacted on Wednesday by another sales person Bob and he let me know that the bike was in their store. I was startled and said it can’t be the same bike. He then proceeded to tell me that the Trek rep drove the bike up from Los Angeles Tuesday night. I needless to say was blown away. I then went into to pick up the bike and the service by the entire store has been the best I have ever witnessed. They helped me with the fitting of the bike all the way down to an inner tube. These guys are great and there is no better customer service you will ever find. So if you are interested in buying a Trek or BMC go to City Cycle and you WILL NOT be disappointed.

Bought my first bike in over 30 years today at City Cycle. I couldn’t have asked for a more helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable salesperson than Bob Campbell. He thoroughly explained the mechanics, features of my new Trek 7.3 FX and answered every question we had with real interest and made sure that we were well taken care of. I’ll definitely be back for some of their workshops and to purchase accessories as I need them down the road.

This just wasn’t the right place for me to buy a bike. The salesperson just wasn’t in the mood to help me figure out which bike would be best for me.

Been shopping for a mountain bike for about 6 months. I’m a road cyclist and was clueless on what I needed on a decent mountain bike. I needed an education. I went to at least 4 shops and asked for an education on the basics. Some shops were just selling incredibly high end bikes that I don’t need at my level. A competitor that sells similar price ranged bikes was not helpful and slightly condescending. This surprised me since I can «speak» road bike and was just asking for road bike to mountain translation. Went in with a friend who is also looking for a new mountain bike and needed an education too. Scott was SO helpful and really explained everything that we needed know. Finally ended up buying a great Trek «Lush» from them. (FYI — Trek — terrible name for a woman specific bike)

I bought my current road bike at City Cycle Corte Madera in June 2014 and couldn’t be happier with it. I live in SF. So, most of the work I have done on it is at City Cycle SF. But, I stop in Corte Madera all the time too for various tweaks and minor in-​ride repairs. Dave and Scott have definitely fixed a lot of issues and annoyances I’ve just before I tackle Paradise Loop. They’ve been incredible over the past year in keeping my Domane rolling.

These guys rock if you want great service and attention from a staff who really know their bikes.
Cory the owner was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the bikes and steered me in a perfect direction, not to a more expensive bike or just pushing what they had in stock.
Bob and Tim did my fitting after I bought the bike. These guys treated the fitting like it was their true passion and their livelihood. Too often, the staff at the shops are guys who love to ride and just work to pay the bills. These guys are passionate and will dedicate the time and attention to make sure you are set up perfectly.
I left feeling like their mission was for me to end up on a bike that was just awesome and perfect for me. Other shops I was also speaking to left me feeling like they just wanted to sell me a bike they had in stock.

I’ve found this to be a very friendly bicycle shop and a great place to get mechanical work done.
Tim Brennan is an extremely nice and friendly person and does amazing work. He built up a new frame for me using existing parts from my old bicycle. Using my fit numbers Tim made sure the bike fit exactly right the first time out. It not only shifted great, but every aspect including bar tape and lever placement was perfect. My old components were spotless and it made it feel like an entirely new bike.
It’s great to have a perfectionist work on your bike that also is super responsive, helpful and does a really good job of answering questions in a welcoming way. Their labor rates are also very fair and reasonable.
It’s been great to be able to schedule an appointment and get your bike back the next day and multiple times I’ve called for something small and have taken it in and Tim made sure I got it back the very same day, even in the busy season.
While to date I haven’t worked with the other mechanics there, friends of mine have had great experiences.

Picked up a mountain bike today, great bunch of guys, knowledgable, a really good experience.

As a previous reviewer stated, I wanted to like this place. I had been referred to the shop by a member of a bike team that CC sponsored. I was told that «they would take care of me». This usually translates into some preferred/​discounted pricing.
Given the strong referral, I dismissed some of the early red flags — aggressive up-​selling, asking for deposit before we agreed upon a price, then telling me they «would take care of me» with discounted accessories. Classic bike shop shenanigans that I chose to ignore because of the referral. Caveat emptor, I know.
As an aside, the saddle recommendation and swap sucked so I went to Mike’s and picked up a Specialized late last year. A personal thing, I know. But, important at the end of the saga.
More recently, my Madone was part of a huge Trek recall (front brake quick release). I called to inquire about procedure and was told I needed to drop off the bike to begin the process. When asked about timeline, no commitment was made — and Trek corporate processing was cited as the reason they couldn’t commit to a date. I left with an estimate of 2 weeks, which was considered fast in their estimation. Given the season, I was OK with that.
8 days after dropping off the bike, I receive a call from the shop, telling me that they would need pictures of the serial number and the front brake in order to start processing the recall claim. My response was, «Dude, the bike has been sitting in your shop for the last 8 days.» I then asked if the 2 week estimate would be delayed by 8 days.
While apologetic, no offer was made to try to expedite the repairs. Moreover, no other act of goodwill was offered… other than I could pick up my bike while they were waiting on the part. Given the nature of the recall, I didn’t see this as a viable option. By this point, I was done.
But wait, there’s more… I picked up my bike last week… so if one adds 8 days to the 2 week estimate, they were close. No explanation was given as to the failure nor what was repaired. Work has been busy so I only looked at the brake/​quick release when I got it home. I didn’t inspect the entire bike until this morning. When I did, I saw that the bike had been dropped on the left side. Scuffs/​puncture on the handlebar tape and scuffs on my new Specialized saddle. The bike is less than a year old. It was pristine. I called to tell them about the situation.
Sadly, the lack of concern (unless you are dropping $ 5K+) and stock «we’ll take care of you» schtick is commonplace in the industry. I go above and beyond for my customers. I expect the same when roles are reversed.
I will no longer support CC. I will also be sharing this review with the cyclist/​biz owner that sent me here. Word of mouth is powerful in niche categories. Caveat Emptor!
