Just decided to stop by and try this place. Gross. Greasy chicken tacos with no flavor… The only thing that was good was the ice tea

Any stars are due to the service because they are genuinely good and trying hard. However, that’s the only positive for this poor excuse for a Tex-Mex restaurant in Corpus Christi. Corpus has good Tex-Mex on almost every corner so do NOT go to this place and have your opinion soiled. A huge piece of hair gunk was in our chips, the salsa isn’t good and the margaritas were way below Corpus Christi standards. This was for the Weber Road location by the way. I haven’t been to the location on Saratoga Blvd.

Family Run Small Mexican Restaurant… Good Food!!! Helpful Hints: 1.Breakfast is served ALL day. 2.They have a drive-thru. This is a small family run Mexican restaurant in an old Whataburger. The seating is very much Wataburger style with booths attached to the wall. If one is on the Southside of Corpus Christi and wants to support small family run business this is a good place to do so. I was there in the evening. Chips and salsa are offered to everyone. I order Huevos Ranchero over easy. They came as ordered. The meal was served with refried beans, Ranchero sauce, chunky style fried potatoes and home made tortillas. The food was tasty. If one is on the Southside and is looking for a family run small Mexican restaurant with good food, Papi Chulo’s is recommended.

They are rude here. Hard tortillas. Hard scrambled eggs. Never again! My taco was falling apart and what’s the use of the taco. Mightiest well got a chorizo and egg plate! We payed and left food there on table uneaten. But like they care less. They see and don’t say nothing to you. No apologizes. We human being. We pay lots of money for us to get sad services.

The owner and her family are the best. Breakfast served all day. If you are looking for fresh hot inexpensive wonderful Jalisco style food, this is it! God bless Papi Chulo’s!

Anytime we’re in town visiting my family, this is a place we have to stop. The breakfast tacos are great(and bonus for being served all day), and the lunch/dinner was great as well. Service was a bit slow, but the food was tasty so the wait was quickly forgotten. I’m particularly a fan of the carne guisada, the fresh flour tortillas and the tasty cucumber margarita. The one thing I would nit-pick about is the odd way we received a chicken fried steak twice… both times, we received chicken instead of steak. The first time, we’d waited for a while and my son just gobbled it up anyway. The second time, we said something and were told that if we wanted steak, we have to ask for beef. Odd.

This place is real curious. For breakfast I give it a 4 but lunch or dinner sadly 1. I had eaten breakfast there several times and still do ! But the one time I had dinner I had«beef» enchiladas. And they used corned beef as the piccadillo believe it or not. Not the same as normal ground beef. I told them and they seemed apologetic so I thought OK they were just trying to pull something over to make ends meet. So me and my wife just went for breakfast. I usually had migas and that was pretty good but not consistent. My wife said the chicken caldo was excellent but I never had it. Skip ahead about a year and we visit their new store on Weber(which is not here on Unilocal). We have brunch/breakfast on a Sunday morning. I had the same… migas. Safe choice in my book. But my wife has puffy tacos and low and behold they had corned beef as the protein. So maybe not visiting again but maybe for breakfast.

We ate at the one on Weber. Food was cold to barely warm. The beans had a funny smell. We were not impressed and won’t be returning anytime soon. Temperature in restaurant was cold, we had to wear our coats yet the weather outside was in the 40’s.

Unfortunately we stopped coming here because of the terrible awful service. Screaming to the kitchen staff while mopping(when you are still open) right next to the customers eating is not acceptable in my book.

My wife and I went for a Sunday morning breakfast, and were not impressed with the food or the service. I ordered two potato and egg white tacos and two machacado and egg white tacos. I ended up with two potato and egg white tacos with cheese and two machacado and regular egg tacos. My wife ordered two barbacoa tacos, both on corn tortillas, and a side of queso. What she got was two barbacoa tacos, on one corn and one on flour; and no side of queso. Not sure why they decided to bring one and one taco, but they did. The food was just ok. My potato and egg was standard potato and egg, nothing great. The machacado and egg were loaded with machacado, much more machacado than other places. For some people, they may like this a lot, and nothing wrong with that, but it was just a little too much for my liking. My wife could barely eat her barbacoa because there was a ton of fat in it. She had to pick out a lot of the fat to even half enjoy it. On the good side, they do have fresh squeezed orange juice, which is always a plus. I’ve heard the chicken soup/caldo de pollo is the best in town, but have not tried it. Maybe I’ll try it sometime, but not anytime soon after my first disappointing visit.

My husband and I travel a lot, so needless to say we’ve tried a lot of food in different places! Since we’ve been back to TX we’ve struggled to find a good Mexican restaurant… this place is awesome! EVERYTHING we tried was delicious. They have daily Menudo and other soups that we wonderful for the cool nights. And, the carnita and tortillas were some of the best. And, yes we HAVE been to the other local joints… they are good but they only got 7 on a scale of 0 – 10. Papi Chulo got a 10 from us both hands down. We both had adult beverages, soups and meals and gave a gracious tip or total ticket was still only $ 50. In other words great prices, too!
