All in all the fajitas had no flavor and the Carnitas Parilla were dry and tough. Flour tortillas were fresh and thick. Unfortunately, the smell of the place was not so good. Kind of like the smell of sewer in a poorly ventilated bat in Northern Mexico. Yes, I would know. I would not seek this place out again even with their good prices. I will keep looking for a good Mexican restaurant in Corpus bit unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be too many.

Excellent food and service. Don’t let the outside fool you. Really enjoyed the shrimp tacos

We just got in town at dinner time and needed something close, so I went with this due to it’s rating. It did have good atmosphere, friendly waitress, large portions and good prices. The reason I give it three stars is due to the food being so bland. Also, I wasn’t expecting my chicken in my soup to have a lot of bones. My husband had fajita nachos and agreed his was bland as well. The jalapeños were not spicy.

This establishment deserves more stars! Not only is the food amazingly delish… but George the manager/waiter runs this business with pride and goes above and beyond to meet the needs of his customers! I wish every restaurant I went to had a «George». Fajitas a la fronteria is a great choice if you like seafood and fajitas! For a healthier alternative, try the steamed snapper… you will not be disappointed!

Wow, so shrimp fajitas had no flavor. I added lemon, salt, and chile to give taste. The beans were mealy. It was early so maybe not quite ready? The rice was rice. The margaritas were stout, but the tequila had a peculiar perfumey taste, not good. The restaurant also has a very distinct odor. Grease trap maybe? Too many excellent Mexican restaurants in San Antonio to ever do this again.

Food was terrific. Probably the best shrimp chile relleno that I remember having. It also didn’t hurt that Thursday night was $ 2 margarita night. Agree that the outside might deter some but don’t let it. Enjoyed it very much.

Thought the food was awesome, especially enjoyed the queso. Service was a little slow especially since we went there for lunch at 3pm and we were the only people there. We enjoyed everything we ordered and will come back again.

Ok, I’ve eaten here twice a few months apart based on coworkers’ suggestions(insisting and raving is more like it). I should have stopped after the first time. There won’t be a third time. Guessing that the drinks are what keep people coming back. It sure can’t be the food. And the smell! OMG! Why didn’t I just leave? Disgusting. Makes me wonder what actually gets into the food. The salsa and chips are average. I had a shrimp /salsa meal the first time — don’t remember the name. The shrimp were definitely old, on the verge of extinction. I couldn’t eat it. The next time I tried the fajitas. They seem to get great reviews. Well, mine were tough and flavorless. Ok, one bad experience I can overlook, but not two. And for crying out loud — do something about that rotten smell!

In a town where you find a taqueria on every corner, you hope to find a standout. The food is better than most other Mexican restaurants, but the building they’re in begs for demolition or condemnation. Also, they thought it would be great atmosphere to have carved wood furniture that is very uncomfortable to actually use. Higher marks for the food, marks off for atmosphere and location. Oh, often the wait staff doesn’t speak English. Another neg mark.

Eh… Not good not bad. It takes about 10 minutes to get past the smell. Not a place that I would tell everyone about. The fajitas diablas had a lite bite to them but the steak was grisly. Overall just a place to eat dinner.

I very nearly gave this place three stars… And I’m still sort of wavering, wondering if I’m being too generous. Here’s the deal — I found this place on Unilocal.I wanted Mexican, and Corpus Christi seems to have a weak Unilocal scene, so I went with this place, one of the only ones that had four stars and a high-ish number of reviews… and it wasn’t too far from us. True to the reviews, it looks like a shady dump outside… in a creepy, desolate strip mall. But inside, it’s nice, big, and very much like a normal Mexican joint. The food was freaking delicious… we had a sampler app with various fried things, followed by beef fajitas for me(order the ones with the peppers, mushrooms and their secret sauce… that stuff is delicioussss) Chicken Jalisco for mom, and some sort of vegetarian dish for dad that I forget the name of. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, and everything had a decent kick to it — especially the salsa they start you off with. I had a Playarita and ¾ of my mom’s margarita. They were tasty and strong, but I wish they had more options for margaritas — along the lines of a Chuy’s or Pappasito’s where you can get 9000 different kinds of fruity drinks. Sometimes I like a crazy-ass frozen, fruity thing, okay? So why do I want to give them three stars? The bathrooms. Holy hell, that was the most disgusting bathroom I’ve ever been in. I think I saw every type of bodily fluid possible splattered all over the first two stalls. There might have even been brains and some internal organs. This goldilocks opted for the third stall, which was not covered in someone’s guts, but was missing the seat. And it was only comparatively clean… I think that you can(or should) tell a lot about a restaurant’s overall cleanliness from the bathroom. We’d already eaten by the time I witnessed that clusterfudge(thank god), but it did sap some of the residual enjoyment from the meal. I’m not going with the three stars because that was the first time I went there, and maybe they were having an off night, or an understaffed night, or maybe it was one disgusting patron that exploded all over that bathroom, and I went between cleanings. Honestly, I didn’t get the impression that they were really clean about the bathroom, but I’m gonna give them the benefit of the doubt. Four star food, beware of the toilets, and if you’re reading this, Café Maya, please keep your bathrooms clean and monitored regularly, as it’s absolutely a reflection of your overall sanitary practices.

The beef fajitas are awesome. Served with homemade tortillas and guacamole. We also tried the ribs, shrimp and fish(for $ 25.00!) but the beef fajitas are the winner. So great I’ll be back again and again.

Scary neighborhood, food was ok, drinks were ok, but the service wasn’t that great and they were empty when we were there. Everyone is different, but I got food poisoning the night after we ate here. It was horrible and ruined a night of my trip. Don’t think I will be going here again.

A great choice for vegetarians. After reading the reviews, I knew I had to try the fried avocado. My husband and I ordered Mushroom Chile Rellenos and the Shrimp Stuffed Fried Avocado. I try to eat healthy, and Café Maya doesn’t skip on the cheese. It was easy to pull half of it off and the breading on the avocado adds a nice texture but doesn’t have any flavor. After the first bite, we pushed the breading aside… there was still plenty of cheesy shrimp goodness in the middle. This place was off the beaten path a little. The customers were mostly people in scrubs getting a drink after leaving work at the nearby hospital. The service was fabulous, our waitress was friendly and made some helpful recommendations for the bar menu. A nice variety of delicious food beyond ground beef and cheese. I’ll definitely go back when I’m in the mood for Mexican.

I was in Texas and I wanted Mexican food. CC does not have the biggest Unilocal scene, so this was pretty much the only decent Unilocal option. So here we came. The man had already eaten after an interview, so I was the only once who ordered a meal, and the server did not seem to be annoyed with that, so that’s good. The chips and salsa that came with the meal were pretty good, the tomatillo salsa I liked better than the other salsa. It was nice and creamy. The red salsa had a flavor I was not used to, so I didn’t really bother with it. I got the fried avocado stuffed with chicken and cheese. The only reason I ordered that was because I had never had fried avocado before, and the chicken and cheese intrigued me. And it was actually really good. It was super plain, I mean there were no spices or anything that I could taste, but the flavor of the avocado was enough, and I think if any spices were added it would probably ruin the dish. The three ingredients complemented each other very well, and I ate the whole thing. It came with a beef taco, but I asked for just veggies. So they gave me bell peppers and onions. I love onions, but I don’t like peppers, so I only took one bite. While it was good, even though it had peppers, I didn’t eat it because why would I eat that when I can have so much fatty goodness that is avocado. The tortilla soup was really good. I wanted to eat it, but again why would I do that when I can have avocado. I was hoping the man would eat it, but he was paranoid it had chicken broth, even though the menu said vegetable broth. All in all it was a very nice meal.

So, how do you rate when one day your food, service and experience is outstanding… then you return the very next day and think you’ve walked into a different place? My co-worker and I wanted a good spot for lunch since were from Dallas and people rated this high on Unilocal… so we give it a shot and were excited. Next day, we don’t really want to decide again so we return. WOW, what a difference a day made. I order the same thing both days only to be seriously disapointed. Even the salsa tasted bland the second day… twilight zone… So, if you go, just know you may hit a great day, or you may hit the not-so-great day :(

I’m pretty sure I have now officially blocked out all life before Unilocal because it’s just not worth remembering. I don’t need to remember what it was like going out of town and getting hungry and trying to figure out what to eat and failing and winding up with Burger King or Denny’s. Because no matter where I go I will find something heavenly, and my first trip to Corpus was no different thanks to Café Maya and Unilocal. Yeah, this place does look hella sketchy on the outside. But I listened to my fellow Unilocalers and went on in searching for margaritas and 5 Star Mexican vittles. And boy did we find them! The service here was spectacular from the minute we walked through the door. We never wanted for more drinks, more chips, more salsa and the food came out quick and hot. Don’t go here thinking you’re going to get something healthy, I’m pretty sure the seafood chimichanga could safely be renamed Heart Attack on a Plate, super fresh shrimp and scallops smothered in cheesy cream sauce. The shrimp stuffed avacado was unreal. Even the complimentary salsa was perfection! If I ever find myself back in Corpus this will definitely be my first stop.
