Atmosphere was very laid back. The staff was awesome and took care of us! Not your typical Coronado restaurant so it makes it a good spot to go too… Not busy on a Saturday. Their outside patio was amazing! We sat between two heaters and the trees kept us dry from the rain! Food was good! Drinks were delicious! The fact that it is owned by a navy seal makes it that much better! It gets rotten reviews but for people that like character and a laid back feel-its perfect! We will definitely be back! Thanks!

I’ve been coming here for 10 years & I can honestly say it always feels like home coming back to visit. Whether you are dancing the night away to Ron’s Garage with girlfriends, on a cozy date out back with a date, or sipping a strong drink out of your ‘Regulars Mug’ McP’s can help you make some great memories! I’ve had beers here with celebrities, Navy SEALs, & island locals. McPs never disappoints. The service is stellar, especially the bartenders. The deck is usually hopping, even in the mild San Diego winters. I haven’t ate the food lately but I know their soups are yummy. Come for the drinks & stay for new friends you will make. Cheers!

Stopped in for a couple of beers and some fries. Friendly server, cold beer, football on many screens, dog friendly. Great patio area for people watching. Great place!

I’m pretty ticked off! It’s not about the food. We had a temper cent coupon from the trolley people and stopped in to enjoy an Irish much. Our waiter saw the coupons on the table and knew that we would be asking for our temperature cent discount. He rang a set and wouldn’t take the coupon even after we asked.

Great food, very poor service. I highly recommend coming here for the food, amazing flavor in the dishes, and big portions for your money. Don’t have high expectations from the service staff. They aren’t that personable with you and they are perceived as just doing the bare minimum of their job. The blonde hostess didn’t smile, our moody server Stephen made us feel rushed when ordering, any requests for refills, extra condiments, or the check took more than 10 minutes each to get. The server didn’t anticipate our needs to refill our empty glasses or ask if our food was enjoyable. In my eyes, unacceptable for any kind of restaurant. But again, I recommend coming here for just the food.

I was a little hesitant to try this place after reading several disparate reviews. However, I’m glad I took the chance. I think many of the negative reviews are because the reviewers’ expectations were too high. My wife and I were vacationing in Coronado with our dog and finding a comfortable place to dine that welcomes dogs isn’t always easy. However, McP’s welcomed all three of us though only on the patio, of course. Nonetheless, we found the attention by the wait staff to be acceptable and our lunch was pretty darn good too! Is this place a little«dive-e?» Yes. But some of us actually like that sort of environment. While one reviewer also criticized the lack of Irish whiskey I would say that such should not deter anyone interested in chilling with a proper pint under a blue California sky.

I love this bar! Every time I go to San Diego I have to go to Mc P’s. I started going there mainly because it is owned by a Navy Seal.(there is no such thing as former Navy Seal) The staff in this bar are the greatest! If you come in with your Hotel Del«I’m an elitist» attitude, well than I hope they knock your ass down a peg. This is an every mans bar. You can sit down and start making friends right away. The person next to you might have saved a whole USTroop and you would never know it. There are quiet heroes all over this bar, and you should feel damn proud to stand in their presence! If you don’t, than just don’t come here, because it leaves seats open for people like me who travel a long way to get here. I try to hit McP’s for every birthday. You can be damn sure I will be there this year for my big 5 – 0!!! I really do plan my vacay around stopping in this place. My dad was a WWII Navy Veteran, and just being in this place lets me feel a little piece of history and a little piece of him. The food is secondary to the honor of hanging out with heroes and buying a Seal a drink. Stop in and just have a good time. It’s really a beautiful little area, and never a disappointment. This Zonigirl loves this bar!!!

I’ve been here several times throughout the years and a few times now after moving to San Diego. It’s been awesome every time. One of the initial draws years back was the fact that it’s owned by a former SEAL and it’s a SEAL hangout. Not everyday you can have a beer sitting next to a Navy SEAL. The ambiance inside is a cool, neighborhood-type feel. Mugs hanging on the ceiling above the bar, stickers from military, motorcycle clubs and military units sticking on mirrors and a nice comfortable dining room and an old-school type bar that you don’t see much of these days. It’s basic, it’s comfortable and it works. The outside patio is fun. Ample tables, high tops and plenty umbrellas for afternoon drinking and dining. The menu is phenomenal. I saw the other review about it being compared to a Chilis… not so much… not even close! This is some of the best food we’ve ever had. Granted, it’s not Hotel Del fine dining with lobster legs and hand picked shrimp from the deepest reef in the Mediterranean. You are at a Navy SEAL«bar», not a Gaslamp sports pub or a bar that caters to power hour 21-year olds. You get solid drinks, awesome food and an experience. We stopped in yesterday again and my GF had the turkey sandwich with a side of gravy and I had a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. Probably the best cooked meals we’ve had in a very long time. Huge buns, perfectly cooked hamburger and the onion rings were actually crispy and hot. I actually ordered a side of ranch and it was nice to get it in a size bigger than a Ketchup cap like most places give you. The food literally was perfect. I saw some reviews on service. I guess we have never had that problem and we’ve been here a lot and throughout the years. Granted, Saturday/Sunday afternoons get busy and you aren’t going to have a personal server assigned to your table but the service has hardly ever been anything less than expedient. Our servers have all been knowledgeable about the menu and I can’t imagine a well known bar in the heart of Coronado that caters to tourists and military would employ anyone who didn’t know what beers they had on tap. Not saying whoever wrote that review didn’t have that experience I would just find it hard to believe unless it was their first day and they were in training. Awesome place. Worth the trip over.

Interesting looking menu and comfortable looking enough environment. My girlfriend and I stopped here after a romantic sunset onboard the air station and walk on the beach. Our treatment here 100% ruined the evening. Before being seated, we asked the maître d to if we could see a basketball game, the Clippers’ first preseason game and NBA’s first game overall. She said that would be fine and seated us in front of a TV no one was watching. When our waitress finally showed up, we asked her to check if we could watch the game before we order so we could go elsewhere if necessary and not miss the game. She insisted she’d take our order anyway, so I asked her not to put in our order until she’d first found out, stressing that we wouldn’t be staying if they didn’t have it. Ten minutes later, our drinks were brought out and we were told the game would be on shortly. We didn’t touch the drinks, already becoming somewhat annoyed. We were then told 5 minutes later they didn’t have the channel for the game. Now, despite the slow service at a time when they were at most at 30% capacity with only 2 – 3 tables per server, I was totally OK with all of this. If they wanted to gamble on wasting served drinks while I walk out, then fine with me. But, at this point I was missing the beginning of the game. Then, I informed one of the waitresses that we would be leaving(ours was nowhere to be found yet again) and what the problem was. We turned to go and she stopped us asking if we’d paid our bill, apparently not having listened. She then insisted we wait for her to grab our waitress to explain it to her, which took 5 minutes longer. In summary, we spent about 30−35min after being seated at a restaurant with relatively few patrons and plenty of staff, having given a pretty specific request and being answered in a highly untimely manner, acted on the condition of our request and were made to feel like we were walking out on a bill and were made to wait around to soothe the interests and feelings of our absent waitress. So, while items on their menu look interesting and their location is convenient on Coronado island, we will almost certainly never return. PS: I highly believe a waitress in a pub should have at least passing knowledge of the beers she serves. But, then again, I also believe that wait staff should interact with customers in a timely and respectful manner.

I enjoy hanging out on the patio here on a beautiful afternoon, especially where there is live music. The inside is a little run down to me but that’s not what this place is about, go hang out outside in beautiful Coronado and hang with friends.

We popped in for lunch yesterday. Without doing research, we were unaware that they don’t serve food from 1pm-1:30pm while they swap out the kitchen gear from brunch to lunch. We were still seated and allowed to order beverages while we waited for the kitchen to open back up. 4 of us ordered fish & chips, the 5th corned beef & cabbage. We were all extremely satisfied with our portions and the food. My fish & chips had about 6 chunks of fish, delicious batter, great fish to batter ration, and the chips were super tasty. I ordered iced tea, and it was the best dang iced tea i’ve had in along time. Our only gripe was that they were not prepared for the 1:30 rush when the kitchen reordered and we had to wait a considerable amount of time for our food to come out. Our hostess and server were both extremely friendly and apologetic, but I feel that their system is a bit flawed. Had we done a bit of research we would have known better to arrive at 1pm, but the delay in the kitchen seemed inevitable. Either way, we will certainly be back!

I would compare most of the food to chilis. It tasted like frozen food tossed into the oven before coming out to our table. The restaurant certainly doesn’t have an Irish pub feel like the name suggests. The patio that we were set at was pretty but the constant pelting from berries left stains on our clothes. I would not recommend this restaurant to my friends. Food ordered: Deep fried cheese sticks Chips and salsa Monte Cristo Fish and chips French dip Cheeseburger Fish taco Grilled cheese

This place is a dive bar with character. One of my gfs wanted to check this place out because she heard Navy Seals hang out here. We came in on a Friday evening and it was full of families and dogs. I love the fact that this place is dog friendly. The inside is a little small and stuffy. Your best bet is to grab a seat on the patio, especially if they you can grab one of the tables with a fire pit on it. I will say the service was a little slow but everyone was very friendly. It is typical bar food and they have daily specials. I ordered he guacamole Swiss burger(sub blue cheese) and it was actually really good($ 10.45). My two friends both ordered salads which came with garlic bread. One of the specials was a grilled shrimp Cesar salad which was also really tasty($ 12.45). They have a pretty good selection of food for everyone to enjoy(tacos, burgers, salads, chicken fingers, pasta, etc). If you want a low key place to grab a drink and do some people watching this is a great spot.

Came here for lunch with my wife and 3 year old daughter. We order the Dublin mules, for drinks. they were ok, but they came in stainless steel mugs which made the drinks taste like metal. My wife got the burger and i got the corned beef on rye. The food was ok, it was a nice spot to sit and relax, we never went inside just sat out on the giant patio and enjoyed the great weather. We would come back, but probably stick to beer.

Oddly, after living in San Diego for decades, I’ve never tried McP’s Irish Pub. Needed to remedy that, so my wife and I dropped in for Happy Hour. There was nobody at the hostess stand, so we just walked into the patio bar and seated ourselves. My main concern was the poor service that Unilocalers have complained about, but after a few minutes a server came up to take our order. We ordered a pair of Stellas, and I inquired about the Happy Hour menu. The college-age server haltingly tried to tell us what was on the HH menu, but I simply asked him to give us menus. Well, he thought that was a sterling idea, this being a restaurant and all. A note about the servers: My wife observed that McP’s seems to be hiring college students who are getting On-The-Job-Training. I agree, since the patio was busy, in a disorganized way, and our server seemed very distracted. And yet the service was pretty good, in an unpolished way. The beers came out after five or so minutes, and we ordered chicken nachos $ 5.23,(not a typo, supposedly half-price during HH). The pair of draft Stellas cost $ 11, but were very cold and fresh. 15 minutes later, we dove into a massive plate of nachos. Never did get any silverware, but we consider nachos to be finger-food. The sauce, which my wife really liked, was to me, a first cousin of Velveeta. And I would have liked more chicken. But for the HH price, neither of us felt compelled to complain. Yeah, we’ll come back again, and try another entrée for HH. It’s really a good deal, and the patio ambiance is excellent. We were quite grateful to be annoyed by neither smokers nor dogs.

First of all… This is not a real Irish pub. They serve no Irish whisky that the bartender knew of and there was one cider and it wasn’t Irish. It had pretty good décor but the prices were really high. I won’t be going back when I visit.

Mc P’s Pub gives definition to the word«Character.» It’s a Boston style Pub right on the downtown strip. A five minute walk from Hotel del Coronado. There’s no identity crisis at Mc P’s. And no mixed messages — serving beer the navy wants to drink and the pub grub you wanna eat when you drink. From the second you walk in it feels like the drinking crowd at night is lively. And you can still bring the teenagers in for an informal meal during the day. Went there for lunch and the service was quick– we were eating about 20 minutes after walking in. It’s nice how they highlight their recommended items on the menu. Which led me to the Ol Dub’liner — a beast of a burger with corned beef & sauerkraut piled on top. It’s not the place to go if you’re looking for a great selection of craft beer. I get the feel their regulars drink the mass-produced stuff.

McP’s is my go-to spot in Coronado when I have my dogs with me. I love their spacious, open patio and always feel comfortable bringing my pups with me. My big dog sometimes has issues with other dogs but the patio is so large that we can easily get a table in the back and keep her separated and out of trouble. On my most recent visit, it was an unnaturally hot March day and my dogs were parched by the time we arrived at the restaurant. Our waitress quickly brought out a bowl of ice water for the girls and they greatly appreciated that, as did I. Since it was so hot, I decided to skip my usual hot sandwich and ordered a chefs salad with no ham. Sadly, the salad wasn’t my favorite. I’ve never been a fan of salads that arrive at the table and still need to be «prepared.» The turkey, cheddar cheese and swiss cheese were in long strips that needed to be sliced into bite size pieces before eating. The ranch dressing, which I can be very critical about, was decent but not the best. Ranch can make or break a salad for me and this one didn’t quite reach its potential. On the plus side, the two slices of garlic bread that are served with the salad are amazing! I know the sandwiches are quite good here, as are the fries, so I’m willing to not dock them for the salad. I’ll just make a mental, and Unilocal, note to stick with the sandwiches in the future.
